Gill Knox, NZSG Board Member, talked about the advantages of searching the 'Intentions to Marry Book' available at NZ Archives as opposed to obtaining a copy of a marriage certificate.  Gill also talked about the value of belonging to NZSG.

'Suffrage signatories - who were the women?' - Sandra Greig

Sandra Greig told us about her interesting research on behalf of Hutt City Archives, into women from Petone and Taita who were signatories on the 1892-3 Suffrage Petition.

Hutt City Archives are planning an exhibition in September 2018, to commemorate 125 years of New Zealand women gaining the right to vote, and Sandra's research will be used then.

Note: this was a replacement speaker at short notice, as the scheduled speaker was ill.

'Researching Your Family'

Branch members were present, along with library staff too,to help get visitors started on researching a family history, or to help break down those genealogy brick walls, and to show how to use the resources available at the library.

Specialist Interest Groups in English, Irish, Scotish, and Military research were also available with their resources to answer questions and to assist with research.

Hutt City Archives and About Space present an exhibition and series of speakers at Vogel House, Lower Hutt to celebrate 125 years of New Zealand women having the vote.

Proudly supported by volunteers from Lower Hutt Lions Club, Hutt Valley Horticultural Society, and Te Omanga Hospice Te Whare Manaaki Tangata (the entrance koha will go towards the rebuilding of Te Omanga Hospice).

Venue: Wainuiomata Museum to Wainuiomata Pioneer Church and Churchyard.
Wainuiomata Museum is at 1 Homedale Road, Wainuiomata (in the grounds of the Wainuiomata Primary School).
Admission: Free

Celebrate 125 years of women's suffrage with a special exhibition at Wainuiomata Museum.

Then take the Heritage Hunt from Wainuiomata Museum to Wainuiomata Pioneer Church and Churchyard. Discover the Wainuiomata women who registered to vote in 1893 and go in a draw for prizes (adults and children).
