'From Poland to Pahiatua' - Adam Manterys A really interesting and insightful presentation on the epic story of how 733 mostly orphaned Polish children and their 105 adult caregivers ended up stranded on the other side of the world towards the end of World War II. They were part of the 1.5 million Poles who had been forcibly deported to Soviet forced-labour camps in 1940. More poignant as Adam Manterys' father was one of those orphaned children. |

'Starting from Snippets' - Helene Philpott and panel Helene Philpott lead a panel discussing how to build on scanty information to build a picture of a person, using a variety of resources. The panel gave some examples from their family history research. Lots of help was sought by the audience, as well as useful suggestions offered to help fellow researchers. |

'Dating Photographs' - Natalie Marshall and Kirsty Willis Natalie Marshall, the Curator of the Turnbull Library Photographic Archives, and Kirsty Willis gave lots of tips about dating and caring for old photographs, using many examples from the ATL archives. They told us about many other useful online resources, too. |

'Annual General Meeting' This meeting ended up being rescheduled a week later than usual due to the terrible weather and road access conditions experienced on the usual night. This meeting was just AGM business only, with no guest speakers. Anita West was elected Convenor; and Anne Martin was elected Secretary. Suzanne Sutton-Cummings continues as Treasurer; Alistair Hardy and Terry Stock are now general committee members, joining Christine Edney, Graeme McVerry, Helene Philpott, and Diane Stinson. |

The group then moved through to the Heritage Centre room in the library to see where many of these items can be found and used. |
