Branch Library

Our Library is located at the Heritage Centre in the Petone Public Library, 7-11 Britannia Street, Petone. Click here for a map.

The Heritage Centre and Petone Public Library are open:

Our resources include books, magazines, CD ROMs and microfiche.  There are also computers located in the Heritage Centre for family history research use including searching the CD ROMS and other Branch computer holdings.  We have resources to assist with Hutt Valley history and genealogical research, and material to help with family history research more generally.

Using the Branch Library

A current Branch Membership card is required to borrow any of the Branch's library collection and in order to use our computer or microfiche resources. Just present it to any of the Petone Library staff, or to a Hutt Valley Branch of NZSG volunteer if there is one available when you are visiting.

Family History/Genealogy Help at the Library

The Branch has volunteers available at the Heritage Centre to help members and the public with their research using the Branch's library and the resources available from the Heritage Centre and Hutt City Libraries, on:

Branch Library Collection

Our Hutt Valley Branch library resources are listed in a spreadsheet Library Catalogue

This is a large Read-only spreadsheet, about 320KB in size.  Once the file is opened, you are able to do a Search using Find [Ctrl-F], or Sort the data, eg columns like Title and Author.

NZSG CDs/DVDs available at Petone Library Heritage Centre:

These are all in the drawer in the Heritage Centre and available to everyone to use on the Library Computers.  Please ask the Library Staff for assistance if a branch volunteer is not available.

In addition to the Branch's library holdings, Hutt City Libraries have a wide collection of family and local history resources to assist you with your research.  Many of these are available to the public at the Petone Public Library alongside our Branch resources.  Some are available at other Hutt City Library branches.

You can search the subsciption family history website Ancestry.com for free at any of the Hutt City Libraries and print out your results for 20c per page.  You can download and save electronic copies of documents you find on Ancestry.com to your own memory stick, or email them to yourself from the library computer.
