The following pictures are of Wayside Cottage which is located on Route 22 (White Plains Post Road) in Scarsdale and which figures prominently in Westchester history.
Wayside Cottage is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites. It has expanded from a one-room farmhouse that was built in the 1600s and has been used as an inn, tavern and post office. It became a part of the Butler Familys country estate in 1853, and, in 1919, it was deeded to the village of Scarsdale to preserve the cottage for civic use. It is now used by The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW).
The following mile marker shows that it is 21 [XXI] miles from New York City and appears to be made of sandstone. It was erected in 1777 and was located on Route 22 (White Plains Post Road) just south of Wayside Cottage. However, both the rock and the marker were removed in 2008.
