Eastchester (also shown in early records as "East Chester") was incorporated in 1663 and today includes the villages of Tuckahoe and Bronxville. Prior to 188?, the town also included what today is the city of Mt. Vernon. Also, the former towns of West Farms, Morrisania, and Westchester (town) were part of Eastchester prior to being transferred to New York City and becoming part of The Bronx County.

"The township of East Chester, at first styled "Hutchinson's," is divided on its eastern border from the towns of Pelham and New Rochelle by Hutchinson River and East Chester Creek, and on its western border from the town of Yonkers by the Bronx River. It is bounded on the north by the town of Scarsdale, and on the south by the town of WEstchester and Black Dog Brook." "The settlement of this town took place in 1664, by the immigration from Fairfield County, Conn., of ten of its families, which, within a year or two, were joined by others, making the families of the original colony in all twenty-six." The Westchester County Historical Society also has extensive manuscripts giving inventories of many old cemeteries located throughout the County. Also check with the local historical society for information about the above cemeteries.

The Sanborn Map Company has issued Insurance maps of the town of Pelham which comprises North Pelham, Pelham, and Pelham Manor and the town of Eastchester which includes the villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe, New York. [1932], a copy of which is available in the Map Division of the New York Public Library. Insurance maps were detailed to the point of showing each building on each street so that insurance companies knew what to pay the insurer in the event of fire or destruction.
Many town historical societies hold maps of their vicinities, including copies of the Sanborn insurance maps. Be sure to inquire at such institutions as well as at local libraries.

For a "Census of Inhabitants of the Town of Eastchester, 1698", see the New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, v. 38, pp. 134-135, published in 1907 or view a transcribed copy.
The only NY State censuses which survived are for the years 1905, 1915, and 1925. Check at your local LDS Family History Center for these films.
