HUGHES, Elizabeth W.
Died: Mrs. Elizabeth W. Hughes March 3, 1884 in Arcade, Wyoming County, N. Y. at age 53 years and 3 months. She was born near Caergybi, Montgomeryshire. She and her husband, W. Hughes emigrated to this country about 32 years ago, and settled in Cattaraugus [county], NY. W. Hughes died about three years ago. She was baptized at age 13 by Dr. Morgan at Caergybi. Died: Stephen James, March 14, 1876, in Freedom, Cattaraugus, N.Y., at 79 years old. The deceased was from the parish of Castell Henry, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. He was baptized by Rev. John James, at Casmael. He came to this country in 1849. Y Wawr (January 1877), 321.

JOHN, John
Died: John John, near Arcade, Wyoming, N.Y., March 8, 1879 at age 74 years. He was born in the district of Rhydwilym, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. 41 years ago [1838] he came with his family to South Trenton, Oneida Co. 15 years later [1853] they moved to Cattaraugus. For 26 years he was a member of the Welsh Baptist Church in Freedom. He was baptized in his youth at Rhydwilym by the late John Llewelyn. Y Wawr (July 1879), 131.

JOHNS, Margaret
Died: Margaret Jones Johns, mother of Reuben and John Johns, died of malarial fever at the home of her son-in-law, David L. Phillips, on Bixby Hill, on Wednesday morning, aged 77 years. She was born in Wales, married John Johns of Remsen, this State, moving to Freedom soon. She had resided in this section ever since, and had a large circle of friends and acquaintances who held her in high esteem for her kind disposition and many sterling qualities. Besides her sons she leaes two daughters, Mesdames David James and Lewis Morse, and six step-daughters, including Mrs. Mills of this village. She was a devoted mother and a consistent Christian. The funeral will be held at the Freedom Baptist church today, where the interment will take place. Her husband died in 1878. (Newsclipping Obituary, no source, no date. Gravestone indicates she was born 1820, died 1897.)

JONES, Maggie E.
Died: Mrs. Maggie E. Jones, Freedom, N.Y. by Giraldus. Summary: Mrs. Maggie E. Jones died in Freedom, Cattaraugus Co., N. Y,. May 17, 1889, age 44 years, 1 month and 3 days old. She was sick about two months, under heavy affliction. Daughter of Mr. James Evans and Mrs. Mary Evans, Maenclochog, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. She came to this country 37 years ago. They lived for years in Attica Center, N.Y. Sister Jones was baptized in 1883 by Rev. W. M. Evans, minister of the church in Freedom. In 1868, she married Mr. David Jones, but it was a short-term marriage. At the end of about two years from their wedding day, Mr. Jones died. During the time they lived together, in part, with her father, and in part in Chillicothe, Mo. At the time of the death of her mother in 1870, she came home from the west. A letter at this time informed her that her husband was in critical condition (an "endangered patient") and she will need to hurry. After the death of her husband, she lived with her father. She was buried in the Baptist chapel cemetery in Freedom. Y Wawr XV:4 (April 1890), [page numbers missing]. Note: The original death notice is much larger. MORGAN, Daniel
Died: Daniel Morgan, Freedom, Cattaraugus County, N. Y., February 17, 1888. Age 78 years and 10 months. He was born in Pembrokeshire, on the border of Camarthenshire. He married Ann [no maiden name given]. In 1839 the family came over the ocean to Utica [New York] where they stayed two years. In the spring of 1841 he came to this valley and was one of the first settlers in this Welsh settlement. Y Wawr (June 1888), 190-191

Died: Mrs. Eliza Morgan, Freedom, N. Y. In Freedom, N. Y., July 31, 1891, Mrs. Eliza Morgan, the beloved wife of Mr. J. H. Morgan. Mrs. Morgan was the daughter of the Rev. Thomas Roberts, one of the first and most useful ministers of the Welsh Baptists of this place...Mrs. Morgan was born in Glamorganshire, Wales in 1834. MORGAN, Ellen H.
Died: Ellen H. Morgan, Freedom, N. Y. October 13, 1889, aged 34 years and 1 month. Wife of William Morgan. She was born October 1855. Her parents were John and Laura Higgins of Freedom. She was baptized January 30, 1876 by Rev. William Evans. On May 11, 1876 she married William Morgan, son of Daniel Morgan and wife. William and Ellen Morgan had five children; only two were living in April 1890. She died of congested lungs following the birth of a child. Burial took place on October 15 at the Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery. Y Wawr (April 1890), n.p.

MORGAN, Jimmie
Died: Jimmie Morgan, Freedom, N. Y. January 15, 1890, aged 13 years, 5 months and 21 days. Son of William and Ellen H. Morgan. He died suddenly and unexpectedly from scarlet fever. Burial took place on Jaunary 17th at the Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery. Jimmie was a regular attendant of the Sunday School and the public school. He loved books and learning.
