AREA SERVICE MEN & WOMEN CASUALTIES
IN WORLD WAR II

Almost two thousand names are included in the World War II casualty list for Troy and vicinity. One measure of the Troy Area’s participation in the war effort was this steadily lengthening list of those killed in action, wounded, missing, and prisoners of war and interned.

The casualty list, published in the Troy Record on Wednesday Morning, May 30, 1945, page 8, is compiled from news reports from the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 to May 23, 1945. Until World War II ended with the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945, there would be many more additional names added to this list.

The casualty names in this data base are arranged in eight separate files as follows:

Killed in Action Names

Missing in Action Names

Prisoners of War Names

Wounded in Action Names

All Casualties - By Surname

All Casualties - By Hometown

Former Area Residents Names

Soldiers Having Relatives in the Area

Readers of this transcription project may be familiar with (1) names of area missing in action individuals who were later determined to be deceased, (2) names of those who later died of their injuries or (3) names of those killed after this newspaper list was published on May 30, 1945.
