LAWSON - ANDERSON
Patti Metsch
I need some advice concerning probate records - Help! I read that most of the probate records of Sullivan County were destroyed in the 1909 Monticello fire. I wrote to the Surrogate Court asking if a particular file might still exist from the 1850's and they simply sent me a form letter stating it would be $70 to search for a record more than 25 years old (didn't really answer my question, did it?) I am traveling to NY from Florida to do research and would like SOMEONE's - ANYONE's - advice on whether I should take a whole day out of my schedule to drive to Monticello to check on this record or would it be a waste of time???
