BAKER
Pat Tenney
I have been trying for years to prove that Justus Baker was the father of my ancestor, Archibald (Archelaus) Baker. Justus Baker was born about l753. He served in the Revolutionary War from Fishkill, Dutchess Co., Ny. In l780 he married a Marcy (Mercy, Mary) Brown. Their first son, Jacob, was born l3 OCT l784. The family ? was in the l790 Census in the Town of Mamakating, Ulster Co. with two sons. In the l820 Census of Sullivan Co., Town of Mamakating, Jacob, Archelaus, and Justus Baker were living close to each other other and of the right ages to be father and sons. Jacob Baker wrote a letter to the govt. trying to get a pension for his widowed mother, his father had received a pension for his service in the revolution. The mother's pension was turned down because she had not been married to Justus at the time of his service. But, in the letter, Jacob said his parents had two sons and four daughters. He named all the daughters, but not his brother. I believe this was because Archelaus had died in l838. Justus had died in l839. Any information you can give me about the Baker and Brown families would be appreciated.

They had 8 children, CLARA, LOUISE, KATE, LUDWIG, ANDENA, LILY, EDWARD, & CHARLES. LUDWIG BECKER, JR. was my grandfather. After my gr grandfather d in 1876, the family changed the spelling of their name to: BAKER. My grandfather was known ever after as LOUIE BAKER. (1865-1943) I have researched 2 of the BECKER/BAKER families that settled in the area. They came from Blaubach, Rhein Pfalz. I cannot connect them to my LUDWIG. I have a lot of BECKER/BAKER genealogy to share, including the time they worked in the woods & tanneries around Leetonia, Pa.& could perhaps connect my ancestor to one of these lines; as well as help someone else.
