The Town of Mamakating was originally part of the Precinct of Mamakating, which was formed in 1743; organized as a town in 1788. A portion of the town was once located in the Orange County town of Deerpark. The Village of Bloomingburg was incorporated April 28, 1833. The Village of Wurtsboro was incorporated January 22, 1866.
