(Cliff) Note: The following random information was gleaned from a booklet dated 1899-1900. Much of this information was in someone’s handwriting other than Lon’s, probably his Mother’s. Briefly it describes monies earned and hours worked by young “Lonnie” as well as some of his school records.

August 13, 1900 he weighed 99 pounds. His height was 5’ 2”.

October 23 – It snowed and covered the ground and the next day we went hunting and got 2 rabbits.

December 24 – Thursday - Went to a social and had a duce of a time and did not get home until 1 o’clock.

December 25 – Friday – Christmas. Stayed at home and slept in forenoon and in the afternoon went down and helped trim the tree and went to tree in the evening. Had a fine time.

December 30 – Wednesday – Sawed wood all day.


1904

January 1 – Friday – Got sawdust out of bin and got 3 hairs (sic) or rabbits.

January 2 - Saturday – Sawed wood in forenoon. It stormed and went to town in afternoon.  Had a good time.

January 3 – Sunday – Went to Fox's It stormed so we stayed to home in evening.

January 4 – Monday – Roads drifted full. Went to school. Learned much and had fun.

January 5 – Tuesday – Went to school and froze my nose. 36 below zero. 15 below at our house.

January 6 – Wednesday – Went to school. Had a good time.

January 7 – Thursday – Went to school. Had the headache all day.

January 8 – Friday – Went to school. Snow a little in the forenoon.

January 9 – Saturday – Sorted potatoes all day. In the afternoon didn’t do anything.

January 10 – Sunday – Broke road and went to church in morning. Stayed down and had a fine old time.

January 11 – Monday – Went to school. Had a good time and learned much.

January 12 – Tuesday – Went down to school. Bert went to Mr. Robinson's.

January 13 – Wednesday – Went to school. Snowed to beat all in forenoon.

January 14 Thursday – Went to school. Stayed all day. Teacher examination.

January 15 – Friday – Had a party. Good night. 75 or 80. Had a fine time.

January 16 – Saturday – Got home 4 o’clock. Felt like a fool all day. Got up at 9 o’clock. Had to help straighten up in the house.

January 17 – Sunday – Stayed at home all day. Broke roads in afternoon. Went to Foxs in evening.

January 18 – Monday – Went to school. Stayed all day. Tipped over twice.

January 19 – Tuesday – Went to school. Stayed day. Had a good time.

January 20 – Wednesday – Went to school. Stayed all day. Snowed. Stayed down and went to church to bedtime.

January 21 – Thursday – Went to school. Tipped over. Had a good time. Horse came near getting away.

January 22 – Friday – Rained and bank got soft so we didn’t go to school. Visited school.

January 23 – Saturday – Fixed windmill. Sawed logs and skidded them.

January 24 – Sunday – Went to church in the morning with Pa. Walked down in evening. Had a good time. 10 below zero. Like to froze up.

January 25 – Monday – Ground axes and sawed logs and skidded them.

January 26 – Tuesday – Went down town and had horses shod.

January 27 – Wednesday – Draw logs with two teams. Made two trips.

January 28 Thursday – Went down and took exam in arithmetic and geography. Passed arithmetic, tryed (sic) English

January 29 – Friday – And spelling. Don’t know whether I passed.

January 30 – Saturday – Pa and Bert drawed ice in forenoon. Pa and I in the afternoon. Ma went to town.

January 31 – Sunday – J.R. and W.W. were up here and went to church. I went to church alone! We had fun.

February 1 – Monday – I went down in forenoon and got a load of ice.

February 2 – Tuesday – Cold and storm so we didn’t do anything. Stayed home all day.

February 3 – Wednesday – Broke road and drawed wood home from woods.

February 4 – Thursday – Broke roads. Fixed (?) over split wood.

February 5 – Friday – Helped wash. Got two rabbits and cut wood.

February 6 – Saturday – Went down town. Stayed a little while and went to Kanona and drove three cows up snow bank drift.

February 7 – Sunday – Rained all day. Stayed at home. Ditched water. Got sawdust on the ice. Felt awful. Couldn’t go to church.

February 8 – Monday – Drove to school and road was all tore to pieces.

February 9 – Tuesday – Walked to school

February 10 – Wednesday – Anna’s party. Walked to school. Bert stayed and attended.

February 11 – Thursday – Walked to school alone. Learned to skate.

February 12 – Friday – Walked to school. Stayed all day. Had a fine sport on ice.

February 13 – Saturday – Shoveled out road and came down town and got a load of sawdust.

February 14 – Sunday – Stayed in morn and went to church in the evening with Jess. Had a fine time. Got home at 11 ½.

February 15 – Monday – Went to school. Had an awful cold snap day.

February 16 – Tuesday – Was sick with cold and stayed at home.

February 17 – Wednesday – Went to school. Was so sleepy, I came near going for it.

February 18 – Thursday – Went to school all day and did eat. Felt much better.

February 19 – Friday – Went to school. Stayed down and went to F. Chapman’s party.

February 20 – Saturday – Cut wood all day. Sleepy as can be.

February 21 – Sunday – Leon’s house burned. Went to church and stayed down. Jessie and I went up to Wheeler’s to dinner.

February 22 – Monday – Sawed two cords of wood in the afternoon.

February 23 – Tuesday – Went to school. Bert went to box social.

February 24 – Wednesday – Went to school and then to the supper at M.E. Church (Reader’s Note: Methodist Episcopal Church).

February 25 – Thursday – Went to school and to Farmer’s Institute in the evening.

February 26 – Friday – Went to school and it let out at 3 o’clock and we went to the Institute.

February 27 – Saturday – Fixed the road and dislocated my elbow. Went to town and had it set at 8 o’clock.

February 28 – Sunday – Went to Sunday school, to League, then got my girl and went to church.

February 29 Monday – Went to school. Train was late. Mrs. Hansen. Saw Mrs. Dingdales (?).

March 1 – Tuesday – Went to school. Drove. It was froze harder

March 2 – Wednesday – Went to school. Rained all night.

March 3 – Thursday – Went to school. Rained like fury all the way. Hunt paid us .75.

March 4 – Friday – Went to school. Had a lot of fun. Took a load sleigh riding.

March 5 – Saturday – Sawed wood in forenoon and worked around in the afternoon. Pa and Ma went up to Hank Hankle’s.

March 6 – Sunday – Went to church in morning and in the evening with the kid.

March 7 – Monday – Stayed at home all day. It rained. Went to town and saw water.

March 8 – Tuesday – Will to town with us and went to school ½ day.

March 9 – Wednesday – Rode horseback to school and was stiffer than anything.

March 10 – Thursday – Went to school with a buggy. The hind end was ahead half the time.

March 11 – Friday – Went to school. Drove the buggy down. It ran fine. Had a good time.

March 12 – Saturday – Sawed wood in forenoon and got grist at Guice’s in the afternoon.

March 13 – Sunday – Got home from Saturday night trip. Had fun. Walked to church in morning and stayed at home in the evening.

March 14 – Monday – Went to school. Got a letter from kid.

March 15 – Tuesday – Went to school and mailed an answer.

March 16 – Wednesday – Went to school. Stayed all day.

March 17 – Thursday – Went to school. Stayed all day.

March 18 – Friday – Stayed down to Jess’s party and there were 50 people.

March 19 – Saturday – Drawed manure. Felt like a fool. Got home at 3:30. Got a letter to come down Sunday night and did go down.

March 20 – Sunday – And Bert stayed down and Amy. Got home 1 o’clock.

March 21 – Monday – Stayed at school all day. Visitors at three.

March 22 – Tuesday – Went to school and raised the old Harry all day.

March 23 – Wednesday – Regents. We stayed at home and plowed out the road.

March 24 – Thursday – Got up and milked five cows. Went to the station with Walkers.

March 25 – Friday – Took Regents Thursday and Friday. Passed some of them.

March 26 – Saturday – Took care of our cutter and chickies and split wood and chored.

March 27 – Sunday – Went to Fox’s in forenoon. Came home to dinner. Done chores and went to church. Got home pm.

March 28 – Monday – Drawed wood to house from woods and sawed wood.

March 29 – Tuesday – Helped Carl Fox saw wood in their wood all day.

March 30 – Wednesday – Drawed manure. Pitched hay to press.

March 31 – Thursday – Pitched hay to press and worked for Emery and drawed manure.

April 1 – Friday – Went up and measured that ground of Chas. Fox

April 2 – Saturday – Split and sawed wood and got done at 4 o’clock. The rest went to town at noon.

April 3 – Sunday – Adella Walker came up with Pa and Bert and I drove down in evening and had a good time. Got home at 12.

April 4 – Monday – Drawed manure all day and straw.

April 5 – Tuesday – Carl came over and we sawed wood all day and sawed 8 cords.

April 6 – Wednesday – Sawed wood with Carl. Slabbed wood. 4 cords.

April 7 – Thursday – Buckman helped us saw wood am. Drawed hay yesterday.

April 8 – Friday – Hay yesterday and today. 4 loads. One potato and 3 hay.

April 9 – Saturday – Drawed 3 loads of hay and Pa went to Grange. I got my pants wet.

April 10 – Sunday – Walked over to Will Shants’s and stayed at home in evening.  It made me very mad.

April 11 – Monday – Slabbed wood and painted pantry.

April 12 – Tuesday – Sawed wood all day to beat all.

April 13 – Wednesday – Drawed hay to Avoca. I made 2 trips.

April 14 – Thursday – I painted the kitchen and wood and had the headache.

April 15 – Friday – Drawed manure and helped paper kitchen.

April 16 – Saturday – Drawed wood from woods and split.

April 17 – Sunday – Went over to Emery’s and stayed to dinner. Came home and went to church in the eve.

April 18 – Monday – Sawed wood and went to town with oats.

April 19 – Tuesday – Sawed wood all day. Pa and I sawed 3 ¾ cords in 4 hours.

April 20 – Wednesday – Snowed like the old Harry. Didn’t do anything.

April 21 – Thursday – Went to town and got 2 pairs of shoes.

April 22 – Friday – Drawed wood and sawed 2 cords in the afternoon.

April 23 – Saturday – Split wood in forenoon and stayed to home in house with sick kid.

April 24 – Sunday – Went to church in morning. Rained and went to Baptist union meeting.

April 25 – Monday – Drawed rails and plowed all day. Tired kid.

April 26 – Tuesday – Plowed in orchard and helped Emery Mills thrash buckwheat.

August 1 – Monday – I cut hay and put it up. Pa worked at the C. Fox’s.

August 2 – Tuesday – Drawed in hay. It rained. Pa and Art went to town.

August 3 – Wednesday – Cut and put up. Spread and drawed in 3 loads in 4 hours.

August 4– Thursday – Cut and drawed in hay all day. Cut three willows.

August 5– Friday – Cut and drawed hay all day. In pm it rained like fun.

August 6– Saturday – Led bull to town and Emery helped us draw hay in pm.

August 7 – Sunday – Uncle Philip’s folks came down and I stayed in home in morning and Bert went to hom and I went to church in eve.

August 8 – Monday – Cut hay and put it up. Jake came up and said Laura was dead.

August 9 – Tuesday – Pa and Ma went to church to Laura’s funeral. We drawed in hay. Finished.

August 10 – Wednesday – Rained in am. In pm worked in spuds on Chas. Fox’s.

August 11 – Thursday – Worked in potatoes on Chas. Fox’s.

August 12 – Friday – Finished potatoes and started binder for Mills.

August 13 – Saturday – Pa bound for Mill’s. I drawed straw and went to town in pm.

August 14 – Sunday – Albert went to church in am with us and in pm went to church to M.E.

August 15 – Monday – Set up oats for Mills and thrashed for A. C. W.

August 16 – Tuesday – Set up oats at home and raised Mill’s barn.

August 17 – Wednesday – Cut timothy seed oats and went to town in pm.

September 4 – Sunday – Clarence R. was up. Stayed at home in morning, but went in evening. Had a swell time.

September 5 – Monday – Drawed wood home from the woods. Bert and Pa went to town.

September 7 – Wednesday – Went up to Uncle Philip’s to work.

September 18 – Sunday – Went to church in morning. F. Clark came with us and went to church with us in eve.

September 19 – Monday – Cut corn all day and went to Fox’s in the evening.

September 20 – Tuesday – Helped thrash and it rained in afternoon so I was sick.

September 21 – Wednesday – Got up at 5 and went down and helped fill Wheeler’s silo.

September 25 – Sunday – It rained in the morn. I stayed at home and went to church in evening. I got home at 2 am.

September 26 – Monday – It rained. We put brake on wagon and steps.

September 27 - Tuesday – Picked apples and built steps and washed buggies.

September 28 – Wednesday – Our folks went to fair. It was a very nice day.

September 29 – Thursday – Bert and I went to fair. It rained in pm.

September 30 – Friday – Dug potatoes all day. 102 bushels. Went down to Miss Coates.

October 1 – Saturday – Dug potatoes all day. 89 bus. Uncle Hank’s folks came out in pm.

October 2 – Sunday – Went to church in morning. Not to Sunday school. In eve went to Episcopal church.

October 3 – Monday – Dug potatoes in am. I drawed in buckwheat in pm.

October 4 – Tuesday – Dug potatoes in am and I butchered red hog.

October 27 – Thursday – Dug potatoes in am on Chas. Fox’s and at home in pm. Went to speech.

December 10 – Saturday – Got home 4 o’clock and felt like a fool so went hunting. Got 4 rabbits. Pa and Ma went to Uncle Philip’s. We finished the work.

December 11 – Sunday – Went to Sunday school in morning. Got some more pictures taken. Went down in eve. Went to M.E. church.

December 12 – Monday – Bert and I went down town and got some bread. Our folks got home at 7:30 eve.

December 13 – Tuesday – Pa and Ma took load of b wheat down town. Cliff and I put reaper and plows in hog pen.

December 14 – Wednesday – D.OI. Chamberlayne came up and went hunting. Got 3 rabbits. Went over and practiced. Teacher came over and stayed all night.

December 15 – Thursday – Took teacher over to school and took 2 loads of hay to town and Bert did too.

December 16 – Friday – Drawed in hay in forenoon and sold first in pm and husked corn.

December 17 – Saturday – Pa and Ma went to town. I husked corn and went down that night. Had a bum Time.

December 18 – Sunday – Went to church in morning and in eve and had a swell time.

December 19 – Monday - Pa went to town and I husked corn and to schoolhouse to practice for Christmas.

December 20 – Tuesday – Husked corn and Ma and Pa washed. Bert and I went over and practiced for Xmas.

December 21 – Wednesday – Broke roads and got ready to go to town. Got out cutters.

December 22 – Thursday – Went to town and visited school in pm and went over and helped teacher make popcorn balls.

December 23 – Friday – Didn’t do anything in am. In pm, got Xmas tree. Helped trim it and acted as Santa Claus. Had fun.

December 24 – Saturday – Drove cows down town and then came home. Went down to Xmas tree. Got home at 11 o’clock. I helped distribute Xmas presents.

December 25 – Sunday – Bert went up to M. Coffin’s to spend Xmas. I stayed at home and went down in pm to Floyd Clark’s and then to end eve to Pres. Church.

December 26 – Monday – Helped wash and split wood in pm. Had an awful cold.

July 7 - Sunday - Lottie and I went over to the lake in the pm and down to Aunt Julia’s. Had a dandy time.

July 8 - Monday - Went down to Wayland with Uncle Lewis’s folks to the show. Then came home.

July 9 - Tuesday - Cultivated all day. Hitched up Molly. Went down town with Pa. Had a dandy time. Then went to bed at 10 o’clock.

July 10 - Wednesday - Cultivated all day. Went down town with Pa. Had a dandy time.

July 11 - Thursday - It rained nearly all day. Went to bed early.

July 12 - Friday - Cultivated potatoes in am. Helped Ed Hunt Raise his barn. Got home at 7:15.

July 13 - Saturday - I tilled potatoes and Pa and Art raked hay. Went down town. Took a little trip.

July 14 - Sunday - Went down on West Creek and over to Bert Collier’s. Lottie and I went to League. Had a nice time.

July 15 - Monday - Tilled potatoes all day. Bert mowed all day. Went for a walk in the evening.

July 16 - Tuesday - Bert went to a social at Armstrong’s. Lottie, Emma and I went for a walk. Had a nice time.

July 17 - Wednesday - It rained. Took gray horses to the shop. Went down to Bath. Got home 6:30.

July 18 - Thursday - Went down to band concert. Got sick of it. Went down the road on business.

July 19 - Friday - Tilled potatoes all day. Felt good. Went to bed.

Jul 20 - Saturday - Drawed in hay. Rained about 2 o’clock. Went down town in evening.

July 21 - Sunday - Bert and I went down to Sunday school. Got his buggy. L.M. and E..M.(Reader’s note: Emma McKibbin) went to the Solder’s and Sailor’s home in pm.

July 22 - Monday - Fixed shovel-plow. C. Fox came up and set up sprayer and I sprayed until night.

July 23 - Tuesday - Sprayed all day. Finished. Went down to band concert and had a dandy time.

July 24 - Wednesday - Shovel-plowed all day. Went over to E. Mill’s in evening.

July 25 - Thursday - Shovel-plowed all day. Went down to band concert.

July 26 - Friday - Shovel- plowed all day. Dragged in hay. Drove over to Sam H.

July 27 - Saturday - Shoveled, plowed all day. Went down town.

July 28 - Sunday - Stayed home all day. Went over to Emery’s in pm. Went down to see Lottie M. in the evening. Had a dandy time.

July 29 - Monday - Shoveled all day. Bert mowed all day. Had a hell of a time. Felt like the devil.

July 30 - Tuesday - Shovel-plowed in am. Drawed in hay in pm. Went to town in evening.

July 31 - Wednesday - Drawed in hay all day. Bert and I wheeled over to Sam Hayna’s in evening.

August 1 - Thursday - Drawed in hay all day. Went down town to band concert. Had a dandy time.

August 2 - Friday - Sprayed potatoes all day. Went over to Emery Mill’s in the evening.

August 3 - Saturday - Sprayed potatoes all day. Went down town and then down to Robinson’s. Had a dandy time.

August 4 - Sunday - Came up town. Got a watermelon. Went home. Eat it. Come up, went to church with L.M.

August 5 - Monday - Cut wheat all day. Pa and Ma came home from the lake at noon.

August 6 - Tuesday - Cut wheat all day. Went down town in evening. Had a dandy time.

August 7 - Wednesday - Cut hay all day and drawed in. Spliced a rope for Hunt. Went on to down town.

August 8 - Thursday - Went down to band concert. Had a dandy time.

August 9 - Friday - Drawed in hay all day and wheat. Bert and I went down town. Bert went to Wheeler ice-cream social.

August 10 - Saturday - Drawed in wheat. Bert and I went down town. Went up t o Wheeler’s after ice-cream freezer.

August 11 - Sunday - Stayed at home. Bert went down after Lottie and Jess. C.M.., April, Willard and Ollie were here. Had a dandy time.

August 12 - Monday - Cut hay in am and drawed in pm. Put in 10 acres. Went down town and spliced Hunt’s rope.

August 13 - Tuesday - Cut 10 acres of hay. Drawed it in pm. Stayed at home and went to bed early.

August 14 - Wednesday - Finished cutting the hay. Cocked up hay until 9 o’clock.

August 15 - Thursday - Finished haying. Went down to band concert. Had a dandy time.

August 16 - Friday - Sprayed potatoes all day. Got through 6:50.

August 17 - Saturday - to November 9 - (Missing. In it’s place, in the month of September, on separate sheets of paper, were the initials and names:

November 10 - Sunday - Stayed down to F. Clark’s to dinner. Had a dandy time. Lottie and Emma were there. E.L. and M.E.C.

November 17 - Sunday - Stayed at home in pm. Had Emery Mills come over. Went down to Bath in evening. Stopped at Robinson’s.

November 18 - Monday - Cut logs in am. Snowed in pm. Fred and I went to town in eve.

November 19 - Tuesday - Cut logs all day. Went to bend early.

November 20 - Wednesday - Cut logs all day. Dr. and I went down to Bath and had a dandy time. Home at 2 am.

November 21 - Thursday - Cut logs all day. Went to bed early.

November 22 - Friday - Cut logs all day. Went down town to J.S. and C.S. tin shower.

November 23 - Saturday - Cut posts all day. Went down to town in evening to see the kid. Got home at 1:30.

November 24 - Sunday - Dr. and I went up to M.E. and Sunday school. Walked up home and then back. Lottie and I went to the Presby.

November 25 - Monday - Cut posts all day. Had a big time in general. Stayed at home in evening.

November 26 - Tuesday - Went up to town in am. Cut posts in pm. Wrote to Lottie in pm.

November 27 - Wednesday - Cut posts all day. Went up town into G Malt’s in Horning. Had a time.

November 28 - Thursday - Went hunting with L.H. and P.H. and J.B. Got 6 R’s.. Went to Bath and had a dandy time.

November 29 - Friday - Cut posts all day. Stayed at home in evening.

November 30 - Saturday - Cut posts all day. Stayed at home in evening.

December 1 - Sunday - Went up the track in am. Walked down to Bath in pm over to Mrs. Shoemaker’s. Had a dandy time.

December 2 - Monday - Cut logs all day. Went up to Emery’s after a saw. Got home at 10:30 pm.

December 3 - Tuesday - Cut logs all day. Wrote to the Kid. Went to bed.

December 4 - Wednesday - Cut posts all day. Went to town in evening to get mail.

December 5 - Thursday - Cut posts all day. Went to town to see Bert.

December 6 - Friday - Cut posts all day. Went to bed early.

December 7 - Saturday - Cut posts all day. Went up town to see the kid. Then went home.

December 8 - Sunday - Drove my horse. Came down to church and Sunday school. Came down to League. Went with F.C. and wife, Lottie Mc. Had a dandy time.

December 9 - Monday - Cut posts all day. Had a big time. Wrote to the Kid.

December 10 - Tuesday - Cut posts all day. Read story in evening.

December 1 - Wednesday - Went up to Avoca. Then down to Kanona to have horses shod. Then to Bath.

December 12 - Thursday - Went over to Ranier’s after a bull. Came home. Worked. Caught the horse. Varnished. Went down town.

December 13 - Friday - Dug ditch for water works and took Hoake home at night.

December 14 - Saturday - Covered up ditch and it snowed so I didn’t do anything else.

December 15 - Sunday - Drove cutter down to Avoca. I went to Bath on the 11:11. Had a dandy time.

December 22 - Sunday - Drove to Bath in am. Had a dandy time. Emma rode home with me.

December 26 - Wednesday - Drove my horse to Bath single. Had a dandy time.

December 29 - Sunday - Went to Bath on the 11:11. Had a dandy time.

December 30 - Monday - Cut wood all day.

December 31 - Tuesday - Cut wood all day. Went to Hoake’s party. Had a dandy time.
