I am looking for any information about my great-great grandfather Samuel Butler born in Steuben County in 1806. We have no concrete evidence of his parents identity although it is probable that he was at least raised by Joseph Butler and Mary Jeffers. Perhaps they were his parents or they could have raised him. He married Samantha Hicks (not absolutely sure that was her last name) in about 1823. She died a year or so later shortly after a son Stephen was born. Any birth information or marriage information about Samuel or Samantha would be extremely helpful. Also we think he was a Methodist preacher......Thank you

James married Elcy Ann Williams in 1839 in Steuben Co, NY and had Children: Frances F. b. 1840, John W. b. 1842, George Stephen b. 1843 and James Henry b, 1845(my gg). Elcy Ann Williams is a descendant of Roger Williams from RI. Her line has been well established and James Altherton Chamberlain is listed as a spouse to Elcy in the histories of descendant's of Roger Williams and his first wife, Mary Barnard. She descended from Daniel Williams one of their children. I knew James A. and Elcy removed to Rock Co, Wi and raised their children in the village of Emerald Grove, WI. What I recently found was that James's father was John Chamberlain and mother was Mary Little and they too are buried in Rock /Walworth Co. Are their any connections to my Chamberlain's that hailed from my Steuben, NY line? Thanks for any replies.

Would you suggest a historian for the time and area. One Monroe was named Marquis De Lafayette. They called him "Mark" This is absolutely marvelous. Looking forward to your answer.

DRESSER-RYAN Lemuel DRESSER, b. 1798, died 1854, buried in POAG'S HOLE CEMETERY in Steuben County, along with sons Collins and William, who also died in 1854. If there is a register for this cemetery, can anyone tell if Lemuel's father, Aaron DRESSER, who died in Dansville in 1820, is also buried there, or anywhere else in Steuben County? Also, Lemuel's wife, Elizabeth DRESSER, who died about 1865? John DRESSER, b. 1820, married about 1838 Jane RYAN, b. 1821. Their first son, Charles, was b. 1839, and may give a clue to Jane's family name? Also, after moving on to Ogle Co, IL, in the 1850's, a neighbor was Michael RYAN, of an age to be a brother to Jane. Does anyone know of a RYAN family in the area who may have this daughter? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

BEERS / BALDWIN / DEMAREST
Family oral history has Arthur Howard BEERS born in "Orange County," but we now suspect the town of Orange in what was Steuben, is now Schuyler Co. AHB was born in 1849, the son of Margaret Mary BALDWIN and [possibly Richard?] Beers. More family folklore that Baldwins were related to DEMARESTs.
Found AHB and his family in Yates County in 1900 but nothing relevant in 1860 or 1870 Schuyler Co. census. Pre-1854 Steuben County is now our best hope for solving this puzzle. Jo Ann Kaufman

I believe they married before they came to the U.S. (If not, they married shortly after he arrived in the U.S.) They settled in Cohocton, where I believe they became U.S. citizens. Where would I get naturalization records for Steuben County?  They had at least three children born there: Mary Ann in 1882, Andrew L. in 1885, and Theresa in 1887. There were several other children: J. J., Frank, Cecelia and Nicholas. I believe they may have been born in Cohocton.
