April 11, 1855 Wednesday

• Married - In Prattsburgh on Apr. 5th by Rev. W. E. Pinder, Mr. Jacob Dillenback of Wheeler to Miss Evaline M. Upthegrove of Prattsburgh.
• Surgical operation - On the 24th inst., Dr. John W. Potter of Prattsburgh removed a tumor from Henry Larue of Wayne weighing 3 pounds. The surgery involved the entire side of his face and the upper portion of his neck. Dr. Potter used chloroform and took 10 to 12 minutes to perform the surgery. He received aid from Dr. Read of Bath and Dr. Chapman of Tyrone.
• Died - Mr. Joseph Brooks on Wed. last. He fell from a load of hay on Mon.; of Bath, aged 26 yrs.

April 18, 1855 Wednesday

• Married - In Bath on Apr. 10th by Rev. Almon Gregory, Ambrose Franklin Andrus of Addison to Permelia Ann Flyn of Bath.
• Married - In Hornby on Apr. 8th by Rev. William R. Downs of Orange, Mr. Joseph Pond of Big Flats to Miss Sarah Jane King of Hornby.
• Married - In Savona on Apr. 8th by Rev. J. C. Mallory, Mr. William R. Phipps of Jasper to Miss Julia A. Pomerly of Woodhull.
• Died - In Bath on Mar. 30th, Mrs. Eleanor, consort of John Abel, aged 43 yrs.; survived her second paralytic shock only 5 days.

• Died - Mrs. Minerva Faulkner of Dansville Sat. last; wife of Hon. James Faulkner of Dansville. (from Geneseo Dem., April 18)

• Died - In Avoca on Apr. 28th, William Allen, aged 65; more than 40 yrs. a resident of this county.

• Died - Antionette Kasson, wife of Sheriff G. T. Harrower and daughter of Ambross Kasson, Esq. of Utica; in 41st yr. of her age; at Bath, Fri. last.
• Died - On Wed. last in Bath, Mrs. Margaret Bogardus, wife of Cornelius B., a resident of the village nearly 1/2 century.
• Fire - At the large and elegant residence of Harvey Bissell in Painted Post; entirely destroyed last week.

May 16, 1855 Wednesday

• Married - In Bath on May 11th by Rev. A. Gregory, Thomas Alexander Whittenhall of Addison to Sarah Shoemaker of Bath.
• Died - On May 9th in Bath, John D. Higgins, M. D.; one of oldest residents of village. He was born in Haddan, CT in Oct. 1785 and removed to Bath in 1814. He was President of the Steuben Co. Medical Society. He was failing under pulmonary complaint for the last three years.
• Obituary - On Mrs. Harrower; was a resident of Bath only two yrs.

• Died - In Prattsburgh on the 13th inst., Mr. Joseph Crandell, aged 89 yr. 10 mo. He was born at Westerly, RI about 1765; at 16 enlisted and continued until the close of the Rev. War. He moved to Renssalaer Co. at age 25, until 1848, at which time he came to Prattsburgh to live with his daughter. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

• Married - At Prattsburgh on Dec. 5th by Rev. B. C. Smith, Bishop Smith, Esq., merchant, to Miss Fanny M. Lewis.
• Accident - Near fatal for Mr. William M. Nichols of Bath, who was examining the new block being constructed on Liberty St., when he made a misstep and fell into a cellar; head struck a timber; Dr. Moore dressed the wound, and Mr. Nichols is getting along comfortably.

• Died - In Prattsburgh on the 11th inst., Mrs. Martha S. Potter, mother of Capt. E. R. Bidwell of Bath, aged 71 yrs. She was among the earliest settlers of the county; removed from Oneida Co. to Prattsburgh 47 yrs. ago.

• Died - By suicide, Rev. H. S. Spencer, clergyman; was under treatment at Utica Lunnatic Asylum; was a pastor at the Bath Baptist Church a few years since.
• Died - Lyman Dunn, only son of William Dunn, collector at Horseheads. He was coulping cars at the depot and was caught between them; on Feb. 24th. (from Elmira Rep.)
• Married - At Mansion House in Bath on Feb. 25th by Judge Larrowe, Mr. Joseph Tanner to Miss Esther Tubbs, both of Branchport.
• Married - At the Presbyterian Church of Prattsburgh on Feb. 20th by Rev. B. C. Smith, Mr. George Hayes of Buffalo to Miss Mary R. Weeks of Prattsburgh.
• Married - In Hornellsville on Feb. 23rd by W. E. Haight, Esq., Mr. William P. Haskins of Howard to Miss Nancy Ann, only daughter of A. S. Philips of Hornellsville.
• Died - In Philadelphia on Feb. 18th, Miss Mary Jane Hoyt, daughter of Dr. R. H. Hoyt, formerly of Painted Post; aged about 33 yrs.; for several years a resident of Bath.

• Died - Jacob Swartwood of Cameron, run over by express train; killed instantly, while walking on tracks; about 40 yrs. old; leaves large family.

• Died - At his residence in Erwin on Feb. 26th, John E. Evans, in the 77th yr. of his age; from England after 1798; settled in Town of Painted Post; active businessman.
• Died - At Bath on the 8th inst., Capt. James Read, 70 yr., 8 mo., 24 da.; from Rhode Island in 1796; settled in Urbana and afterwards moved to Bath; buried with Masonic honors near the spot where he first settled in Urbana.
• Died - At the residence of his brother in Jasper on Mar. 9th, William S. Mulhollon, Esq., late of Bath, aged 78 yrs.; from PA in 1800; settled in the Town of Painted Post; active Justice of the Peace for over 20 yrs.; afterwards moved to Bath and was Justice of the Peace for 15 yrs.

He moved to Renssalaer Co. at age 25, until 1848, at which time he came to Prattsburgh to live with his daughter. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

• Accident - Near fatal for Mr. William M. Nichols of Bath, who was examining the new block being constructed on Liberty St., when he made a misstep and fell into a cellar; head struck a timber; Dr. Moore dressed the wound, and Mr. Nichols is getting along comfortably.

• Died - From intemperance and exposure last Wed., Wallace Cooper of Haskinsville, near a tavern between Kanona and Bath. He was with several companions, who left in a sleigh from the tavern. Mr. Cooper fell out and expired. He was about 17 yrs. old.

• Died - In Prattsburgh on the 6th inst., Moses Niles, one of the oldest residents of Prattsburgh, aged about 65 yrs.
• Died - Mr. John Tanner of Mt. Pleasant, Wayne Co., PA, while at the depot in Hornellsville, leaving to visit his brother in IL. He was the uncle of Mrs. Rufus Tuttle of Hornellsville and was 64 yrs. old. Attributed to heart disease. (from Hornellsville Tribune)
