- NOTES: Photographs or photocopies of old documents. Port Jefferson was know as Drowned (or Drown) Meadow until 1836.
- ABSTRACT: Deeds, receipts, contracts, town records, pamphlets, booklets, clippings and other materials pertaining to the history of the Village of Port Jefferson, the Village of Belle Terre and neighboring areas. Materials relating to Belle Terre include photographs of 17th and 18th century deeds to Mt. Misery Neck, and a survey of Oakwood, estate of the Strong family, where Belle Terre is now located. Also of note are blueprint copy of a map of the property of "the late Sylvester Smith, Port Jefferson, L.I.," 1857; material about Suassa Park, a development near Port Jefferson, ca. 1920; "List of Houses in Drown Meadow Bay, 1832;" a handwritten copy of a memorandum on the division of land in the southeast part of the Town of Brookhaven, 1738; papers pertaining to the Brookhaven Town Highway Commissioners, 19th century; contracts, estimates and receipts of the Ladies Village Improvement Society, Port Jefferson, for laying sidewalks and other civic projocts, 1909-1913; an indenture between Coe D. Smith and th First National Bank of Port Jefferson for a house in Port Jefferson, 1899; and materials about Athena Hall (now Theatre Three in Port Jefferson), the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Ferry Company, Loper Brothers Lumber Company, a local lace mill and other Port Jefferson businesses.

- SUMMARY: Original document in leather binding, sized 4" by 6 & 1/2", was a property of Benjamin Strong who was the President of New York Sugar Refining Co. from 1833-1837. He presented this document to his brother, Captain Thomas S. Strong, who was a grandfather of Selah B. Strong. In 1925, Selah B. Strong, a resident in Setauket in Long Island, gave this document to the Reverend William B. Holcombe with a letter, explaining the provenance. Suffolk County Historical Society made copy and published them separately in three issues.
- NOTES: Pagination starts from 10 and some pages are missing. List of the names are not alphabetized. Article on p. 31-32, regarding the history and usage of ear marks, was taken from "The Southampton Magazine" issued in Winter 1912. The author was assumed to be Dr. Charles A. Jagger, who was the editor. Original document in leather binding, sized 4" by 6 & 1/2", was a property of Benjamin Strong who was the President of New York Sugar Refining Co. from 1833-1837.
