- PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 1 box (.25 cu. ft.), 2 maps. (2 survey maps : manuscript ; 31.5 x 40 cm. or smaller)
- NOTES: Organized by material form. Arranged alphabetically. Abraham (Abram) I. Miller (ca. 1784-?) was the son of Jacobus and Barbara (Crans) Miller of Montgomery, Orange County, New York. He was a farmer, married to Jane (Felter) Miller, by 1808, with whom he had at least seven children. The marriage was a tumultuous one and after a separation they were divorced in 1832. In 1826 Miller petitioned the Reformed Dutch Church of Montgomery, New York, regarding his suspension for "unchristian intimacy" with an unmarried woman, Sarah E. Pitts. In 1831 Miller removed to Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania where he acquired farm land over the years and continued on an on and off basis, a some forty year relationship with Sarah E. (Pitts) Hunt, who had removed to Brooklyn, New York and by whom he may have had children.
- ABSTRACT: This is a small collection of correspondence, accounts, deeds, maps, and legal papers involving a farm family of Montgomery, New York and Athens, Pennsylvania.
- ABSTRACT: The correspondence is primarily family letters, foremost by John Graham Miller to his brother Abraham, recounting family and neighborhood news, and the status of agricultural productivity and prices in Montgomery, and letters by Sarah (Pitts) Hunt on her relationship with Abraham I. Miller. There are miscellaneous accounts, bills, and receipts for various members of the family.
- ABSTRACT: The legal series contains some miscellaneous papers with the most important ones being papers related to the divorce of Abraham I. Miller and Jane (Felter) Miller and the wills and estate papaers of Abraham I. Miller (1859) and his father, Jacobus Miller (1821-1838).
- ABSTRACT: Land papers consist of some deeds for Lawyer/Bliss lands in Glen, Bleecker, and Lansing Patent, Fulton County, New York and McIntyre lands in Gage's Patent, Deerfield, Oneida County, New York but are primarily of Abraham I. Millers farm lots in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- ABSTRACT: The latter includes two survey maps of adjoining lots of Abraham I. Miller in Athens, Pennsylvania 1) one being an 1855 map by Z.F. Walker of the total claim and 2) a view of the claim divided by, apparently, previous owners.
