- ABSTRACT: Primarily 18th century manuscripts and documents related to British colonies in America. Also contains some 19th century American and British material. Largest amounts of material relate to Goldsbrow Banyar, New York colonial official, British military operations in North America, and colonial government in the Bahamas. Banyar documents, 1766-1770, relate to his duties as Register of Prerogative Court and deputy to George Clark, Secretary of Colony of New York, including letters to Gov. Henry Moore, petitions to the king, and other correspondence concerning Banyar and Clark's dispute with Moore over official duties. British military documents include Order in Council concerning troops in New Foundland [sic], 1698; act punishing those assisting Royal Navy deserters, 1760; instructions to Vice Admiral Durell regarding His Majesty's ships in North America, 1767 [sic]; records of His Majesty's 60th Royal American Regiment of Foot, Amhurst, 1777; other British army records, 1777-1780; receipts, correspondence, and orders of Captain Frederick De Deimar, Hussar officer, 1779-1791. Bahamas material includes correspondence requesting more troops in war with Spain, 1796; resolutions of Colonial House of Assembly, 1796; minutes of Legislative Council, 1795-1796. Also court depositions, wills, and other legal papers from Rhode Island, New York, and other colonies, 1721-1766; miscellaneous correspondence and broadsides, 1745-ca.1850.
