Clark served in the 81st New York Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He attained the rank of 1st lieutenant. After the war he served in the Quartermaster Department of the 8th U.S. Army Veteran Volunteers. Shortly after being discharged from military service he became involved in the produce wholesale business in New York City. The allied Warren family of McGraw, Cortland County, New York, operated a wagon manufacturing business.
- ABSTRACT: These papers consist chiefly of letters addressed to Julius H. Clark from 1862 to 1885. The letters were written mostly by his parents and siblings regarding personal and family matters. Many of these letters provide insight in the experiences and activities of everyday life at that time. After 1885, the letters were addressed primarily to Lewis and Eliza Warren of McGraw, New York. Their relationship to Julius Clark is not clearly evident, but the content of these letters also regard matters of everyday life. In addition, some of the Warren letters concern the family's wagon manufacturing business.
- ABSTRACT: These papers also include financial records of the 8th Regiment, U.S. Army Veteran Volunteers, Quartermaster store, the principal post of duty of Julius H. Clark, 1865-1866. Specific materials include an account book, inspection reports, requisitions, invoices, and vouchers regarding purchases of clothing, food, munitions, and other supplies.
