Traver Cemetery:
• Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• No longer active, very poor condition, many lost, sinking, fallen, and broken stones
• Directions from the NYS Thruway I90
- Exit the Thruway at the Seneca Falls exit
- Proceed South to route 318
- Turn East on 318
- Go North on Gravel Rd. approximately 2.5-3miles
- Turn West on County Rd 101A, approximately 1/8 mile before the bridge over the Thruway
- The cemetery is on the hill at the curve in the road.

If you should have the time, please write the Seneca County board of supervisors regarding the very poor condition of Traver and other Seneca county cemeteries.

• Born in Ireland according to census and death certificate of son James M. died April 16, 1898, Seneca Falls, NY
• Bought property and house 30 Sept. 1816, 140+ Acres part of lots 97 & 98 Galen, then Seneca County
• 1820 is the first Seneca or Wayne county census appearance, head of household
• 1833, March 22, one of three elected trustees of the Union Society of Methodist Episcopal Church of Tyre, NY
• No daughters known, one not surviving? Reference 1820 & 1830 census information.
• Six sons are known, Joseph, William, John B., Thomas C., James M., Benjamin W.
• Buried in the Traver Cemetery, Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• Headstone reads: "John Armitage died Nov. 25 1862 in the 75 year of his age, A quiet and peaceful Christian"

Frances Armitage Information:
• Born in Ireland according to census and death certificate of son James M. died April 16, 1898 Seneca Falls, NY
• Wife of John Armitage, mother of six sons, see John Armitage information for the names of the sons
• Buried in the Traver Cemetery, Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• Headstone reads: "Frances wife of John Armitage died July 30, 1856 in the 59 year of her age, Here rests a pious and most affectionate mother"

Phebe Armitage:
• Buried in the Traver Cemetery, Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• Headstone reads: "Phebe Armitage died May 13, 1852 Aged 21 years"

Sarah Armitage:
• Buried in the Traver Cemetery, Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• Headstone reads: "Sarah E. daughter of J. & E. W. Armitage _(?)_30, 1848"
• Assumed Daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth W.
• Area Vital records index: (Very limited years, 1847-1849?)
- birth of daughter to Joseph and Elizabeth Armitage 26 Dec. 1847
- death of Sarah Uretha Armitage Nov. 30 1848, Dropsy on the brain

Delia C. Armitage:
• Buried in the Traver Cemetery, Tyre, Seneca County, NY
• Headstone reads: "Dehia C. wife of William Armitage Oct. 7, 1860 A.E. 51-2-24"
• There is a two or three line inscription which is not legible by eye or rub techniques
• This William is NOT the son of John Armitage to my knowledge
• Delia C.’s maiden name is Olmsted
• The intersection of Armitage and Olmsted roads is about two miles East of the John Armitage farm
