This Indenture Made the ninth day of January in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and eighteen Between Henry Baker of the town
of Reading County of Steuben & state of New York of the first part
& James N. Marshall of the town of Sempronia County of Cayuga &
state aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth that the said party of the
first part for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars
to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof
is hereby confessed & acknowledged, Hath granted, bargained, sold,
remised, released, aliened & confirmed & by these presents doth
grant, bargain, sell, remise, release, alien & confirm unto the said
party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever: All that certain
piece or parcel of land situate and lying in the town of Reading County
of Steuben & state aforesaid, being the south part of lot number sixteen
in the S___th section of James Matsons Purchase (so Called) on the west
side of the Seneca Lake beginning at a hemlock tree marked standing on
the west bank of the Seneca Lake, thence west along the line between lot
number fifteen & sixteen to a basswood Post standing in the East line
of the old road, thence northerly along the west line of said lot so far
that a line running parallel with the south line of said lot shall include
and contain one half of said lot sixteen (which contains ninety seven acres
& sixty five hundredths of an acre) making the one half to contain
forty eight acres & eighty two hundredths of an acre of land, Bounded
on the south by lands of James Roberts, on the west by lands of Enos Davis
& the said Road, on the north by lands of the said Henry Baker &
being the north half of the said lot number sixteen & on the East by
the Seneca Lake / Together with all and singular the hereditaments &
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining & the
reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders, rents, issues,
and profit thereof and all the Estate, right title, interest, claim &
demand whatsoever of the said party of the first part either in law or
Equity of, in and to the above bargained premises with the said hereditaments
& appurtenances - To Have and to hold the said described premises
unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to the sole
& only proper use benefit & behoof of the said party of the second
part his heirs and Assigns forever: And the said Henry Baker for himself
his heirs Executors and administrators doth Covenant, grant, bargain, promise
& agree to & with the said party of the second part, his heirs
& assigns that the above bargained premises in the quiet and peaceable
possession of the said party of the second part his heirs & assigns
Against all & every person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim
the whole or any part of the above mentioned & described premises to
the said James N. Marshall of the second part will forever Warrant and
Defend. – In Witness whereof the said party of the first part hath hereunto
set his hand & seal on the day and in the year first above written.

Steuben County On the ninth day of January in
the year Eighteen hundred & Eighteen before me John Dow one of the
Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the said County came the within
named Henry Baker to me known to be the same person described in &
who Executed the within instrument of writing who duly acknowledged that
he Executed the same as his voluntary act & deed let it be recorded.
