Know all men by these Presents that I Gershom Bennet of the County
of Steuben State of New York, in consideration of the sum of two hundred
and fifty dollars, lawful money paid by Jesse Sortor of the County of Steuben
and State of New York the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge do hereby
give grant, bargain sell and convey unto the said Jesse Sortor his heirs
and assigns forever, All that certain piece or parcel of land laying and
being as follows, Beginning at the northwest corner at a stake and stones
on the west line of Township Number five first range, thence along said
Town line to Justus Bennets corner to a white oak stump: Thence easterly
along the said Justus Bennet’s line to the little Lake, thence northerly
the several courses up the little Lake to a stake and Stones, Thence westerly
to the place of beginning, containing forty one acres be the same more
or less, laying in Township number five in the first range of Towns in
the Massachusetts preemption land, To have and to hold, the said granted
and described premises, with the priviledges and appurtenances thereof
to him the said Jesse Sortor, his heirs and assigns forever, to his &
their use and behoof forever, And I the said Gershom Bennet for myself
my heirs, executors and administrators, do covenant with the said Jesse
Sortor his heirs and assigns that I am lawfully in fee of the premises:
that they are free of all incumbrance, that I have good right to sell and
convey the same to the said Jesse Sortor to hold as aforesaid: and that
I will Warrant and Defend the same to the said Jesse Sortor his heirs and
assigns forever, against the lawful claims and demands of all persons In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourteenth day
of May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twelve.

On the 18th day of May 1812 came before me Daniel Cruger one of the
Masters in Chancery in and for the said State Jacob Sacket, one of the
witnesses to the within indenture to me known who upon oath says that he
saw Gershom Bennet one of the grantors within mentioned (to him known)
sign seal and deliver the within indenture as his voluntary act and deed
for the uses and purposes therein expressed and that he the said Jacob
Together with the other witness Samuel Loree, subscribed their names thereto
as witnesses, also came before me the said Daniel Cruger Master in Chancery
as aforesaid, on the same day and year Margaret Bennet, wife of the said
Gershom and whose name is subscribed to the within Indenture to me known
to be the same person, and acknowledged that she executed the within Indenture
as her voluntary act and Deed, and being examined separate and apart from
her said husband acknowledged that she executed the same without any fear,
threat, or compulsion from him I do therefore permit it to be recorded.
