“CHERISH OUR FREEDOM

HONOR OUR VETERANS”

2010-2011 State Projects

Honor our Veterans by raising funds to place a N.Y.S.S.C.A.R. granite and bronze memorial marker along the Memorial Pathway at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.  $2,750

Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery is New York State’s sixth national veteran’s cemetery and the 116th in the National Cemetery Administration.  More than 1.4 million veterans live in New York and more than 225,000 reside in the Albany/Saratoga area. At full capacity, Solomon-Saratoga can provide burial space for 175,500 veterans and eligible dependents.

Honor our Veterans by raising funds to support the New York State Battle Flag Preservation Project at the New York State Military Heritage Institute in Saratoga Springs, New York.  (All funds raised above the cost of the Memorial Marker will be donated to this project.)

The mission of the museum and research center is to preserve, interpret and disseminate the story, history and records of New York State’s military forces and veterans. The collection is divided into the museum and the library/archives holdings.  The museum owns the largest collection of state battle flags in the country and the largest collection of Civil War flags in the world. Of the over 1700 flags in the collection, more than 60% are from the Civil War. The flags date from the War of 1812 through the 1991 Gulf War. The museum maintains an exhibit of its flag collection in the state capitol building in Albany where the museum collection was originally housed.
