Rensselaer County
Church Records

This page was last updated 29 Jan 2012

Although this page is for church records of Rensselaer County, we have included links to baptisms and marriages at churches in other counties nearby, as many Rensselaer County residents were baptised or married in adjacent counties.

In 1942, the US government's Works Progress Administration (WPA) compiled a list of churches and the records they then held. Pat Connors has posted the list for Rensselaer County, NY on her excellent Rensselaer County website, and I highly recommend a visit. You can go there and view the list by clicking here.

Kathleen Gallagher Brearton, Secretary of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society (TIGS), sends the following message about offline Roman Catholic churchbook records: "I am pleased to inform you that four volumes of St Mary's marriages, three volumes of baptisms and one volume of deaths are now available in the Genealogy Room (Troy Room) at the Troy Public Library The records were produced by the American Canadian Genealogy Society, headquartered in Manchester, NH. Many local volunteers worked to bring these records into print. The baptism and death record volumes were a gift to the library from the Troy Irish Genealogy Society. I donated the marriage record volumes in memory of my paternal grandparents. St Mary's Church was established in 1843 and is the second oldest Catholic Church in Troy. The library now has records from St Mary's, St Patrick's and St Jean the Baptist."

The excellent Troy Irish Genealogy Society has posted a list of all 52 of the churches and synagogues in Troy between 1793 and 1890 and the names of their 528 pastors; click on "Projects" and then on "Churches and Synagogues, Troy, NY 1793 to 1890".
