The following biography is from Kelloggs in the Old World and the New, pages 778-779, with additional information from the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1880 US Censuses. It was submitted by John Hills.

Eli Davenport Kellogg was born in 1826 in Hoosick, NY. He married Margaret June Passage in 1848. They had four children: Jay A. and George Adelbert were born in Bonus township, Boone Co., IL, and Ed and Olive were born in Trinity Co., CA. The family left Hoosick in the 1840s, and in the 1850 census are in Bonus Township. In 1860 the family crossed the plains to California. Eli served a term in the California legislature and utlimately settled in Reardan, WA.

Eli was the son of Joseph W. Kellogg and Olive Bassett of Bennington, VT and Hoosick, NY. Joseph and Olive Bassett Kellogg had eight children: James E. born 4 Feb 1820, married Ada June Townsend. He was in Bonus Township by 1844 and became a prominent farmer and lumberman. He died in Bonus. Records of Boone Co. 1837-1877-1886. James and A. J. had George A. Kellogg abt 1845; Adee E. in 1855, Henry H. abt 1821 in Hoosick d 1860 in Illinois. Henry married Catherine Hill June 1, 1858 in Illinois and had a daughter Mary b 1860. Other children included David S., Joseph P, George A., Lucinda and Matilda E. Not much is known of these other children. Matilda E. Kellogg married Charles Hills. Lucinda married and lived in Iowa for a time before returning to Belvidere, Boone Co., IL, where she died 17 December 1924 (according to daughter Nellie's obituary in The Daily Republican, Bevidere, 1 Nov 1926).
