JOSEPH D. LOMAX, M. D. was born in England, April 4, 1929. He came to this country in 1832 and after completing his education was for some years engaged as a teacher in a private classical school. He studied medicine in the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, graduating therefrom in 1862. After serving for sixteen months in the hospital of the colored home, New York City, he removed to Troy in 1863, and was soon after appointed medical superintendent of the Marshall Infirmary - a position he still holds. He is a member of the Rensselaer County Medical Soicety, the New York State Medical Society, and various scientific associations in the city.

In 1864, he married Isabella, daughter of James Marr, of Troy.
