History
In 1886, William S. Pelletreau published his "History of Putnam County, New York with Biographical Sketches of its Prominent Men". Check the Table of Contents for this book and find out what pages may have been transcribed and posted to this site. For those chapters specifically relating to Carmel, see:
Don't overlook any of the Biographical Sketches listed either throughout the text (see table of contents for each chapter) or at the end of the book in Chapter XXIX. A digital copy of this book can also be viewed and downloaded for free from the Internet Archives.
French's Gazetteer of the State OF New York is an important resource for researchers in New York State. It was published in 1860 and, as its title identifies, it gave a "...Comprehensive View of the Geography, Geology, and General History of the State and A complete History and Description of Every County, City, Town, Village, and Locality."
