I am seeking information to verify a link in my family line. An 1870 census lists a William H.Odell, his wife Julia, children Alonzo and Sarah E. Any suggestions on a possible source of information regarding guardianship?

I'm seeking any references to the MEDLAR surname prior to 1800. I'm specially interested in in the possibility that this family might have adopted this surname after having emigrated from the Netherlands in the late 1700's. I have heard several stories about some members of the family having had information about this, including the original Dutch surname. The oldest records we got mention a Zachariah Medlar, circa 1790. Other family stories makes the Medlar family owners of what is today Trinity Church, in lower Manhattan – during the times of the Dutch colony. Unfortunately nobody remembers now. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

"The History of Putnam County, NY...," by William J. Blake, Esq., 1849, tells of an Robert OAKLEY (pg 154), who was chosen Highway Master in 1772. His name also appears on pg 158 as having lived in Putnam Valley from 1772-1782. I am especially interested in this Robert OAKLEY, because my great-great-great-grandfather's name was Robert Oakley SIRRINE and his mother was Elizabeth OAKLEY. Does anyone have any documentation about Robert OAKLEY and his family? If not, can you refer me to some place that might? Is it possible that my Elizabeth was a daughter of Robert OAKLEY of Putnam Valley, NY? Have been unable to find any documentation of my 3rd great-grandparents, Warren SIRRINE and Elizabeth OAKLEY, whom family records say lived at Peekskill, NY. Westchester County historians have no information on this family. We know of another distantly related SIRRINE family who lived in Putnam Valley, NY, so it's possible that our SIRRINEs were in the area of Lake Peekskill, Putnam Co., NY, not Peekskill, Westchester Co. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
