LIND, KRAFF Surnames in Onondaga County, NY

Submitted by Sandy Schemmerling

My ancestors, Henry Lind, his wife Anna M. Lind lived in Onondaga in 1883 as immigrants from Germany.  They came over with 3 children, Elizabeth, Henry Jr., and Lena.  Their fourth child Anna was born in the USA we believe in Onondaga CountyElizabeth married immigrant Jacob Kraff from Germany, and later after Jacob’s passing, married his brother Anthony Kraff (he was born in the USA).  They were members of St Joseph’s German Church.  The Kraff’s are buried in Pompey Hills (Catholic area).  Henry Lind was in the 1920 census but not in the 1930 census.  His wife Anna and son Henry Jr, were still living on La Forte Ave in 1930.  Anna was 80 yrs old and Henry Jr. was in his 50’s.  They  were good citizens of the community, but due to language problems I’m not sure if their contributions were any more than good tax paying citizens.  Anthony Kraff, however, was in real estate and acquired land and Saloons.  He unfortunately, lost most of his properties in the 1920’s. The Kraff’s lived near Oneida lake and provided a camp for the grandchildren in the summers.  My mother and siblings enjoyed many years of fun there. I understand that they lived next door to the kauffmann’s who had a very large bakery in Syracuse.
