Mr. Tappan was born abou 1866, andhis father may have been a Burke M. Tappan. Did the M. stand forMorton? Frances Warne Tappan told her grandaughter their familywas related to John Morton, signer. Agnes m 2nd ca 1786 William Markle/Merkel who wasa Loyalist whom fought with Butler's Rangers and received a grant of 1000Acres in Ancaster Twp, Wentworth County Ontario. Caty m. 1st a Vroomanand had a son Jacob, with her first husband dying 1793/4 probably inUlysses, Tompkins Co, NY. She m 2nd as his 2nd Wife Abraham Markle whoin 1795 was first town Clerk of Ulysses, now Ithaca, then Onondaga Co,NY. Their marriage record is recorded in the Stone Arabia Dutch ReformedChurch. Letters of Administration of the estate of Gilbert Thorn wereGranted to William and Agnes Markle she the widow of Gilbert ca1784. Presumabably Dutchess Co, NY. Gilbert's parents were Johnathan Thornand Catharine Livingston . Johnathan having died in a ConnecticutPrison where he had been jailed as a Loyalist. Abraham and Katharine leftTompkins Co, NY ca 1806 and migrated to Ancaster Twp, Wentworth Co, Ontarioand in 1812 was elected to the General Assembly at York. He was a leaderof the opposition in helping to turn down successive attempts to suspendhabeas corpus to jail all those from the US who might be expected to giveaid and comfort to the enemy if the US invaded Canada as the War Hawkswere agitating for. After three arrests for sedition for his opposition,he fled to the U.S. where he joined a group known as the Canadian Volunteers,eventually leading the group as Major. For this service he was awarded800 acres in Vigo County, IN June of 1816. Would like marriage record ofGilbert and Agnes. Estate settlement of Gilbert's estate hoping to showCatharine listed as a minor. Catharine's marriage to ___?___ Vrooman. Birthrecord of Jacob Vrooman ca 1792/3. and Catharine's birth record. Bradley, possibly both from Auburn area, accordingto the marriage license of their son, Harry H. Bradley. Harry wasborn around 1876-77 in Auburn, and resided in Syracuse in 1899, date ofthe marriage certificate. Harry married Mabel Horle, born in Skaneatlesin 1878. I have some information which indicates that in the 1880 NY census,there is a TUTTLE family in Auburn who have 2 grandsons listed,Harry, age 4, and George H age 7.
