QUERIES WITHOUT SURNAMES

Sat Oct 19 22:24:21 1996 An ancestor was hired in New York after the "Red Cross" proved his ancestry and right to be in the US. He came from France by way of Canada, to Onondaga Co. We contacted the local (CA) Red Cross, who made a phone call, and said they have no record of having that service. This was about the time of the Roosevelt administration. Does this sound familiar? Who might have provided this service? Carole Rohrings EMail: [email protected]

Sun, 03 Nov 96 08:50:49 Do you know if there is a list of other churches in and around Syracuse that have records going back to about 1819. Maybe there is a person or place that has old chruch records. Where would I find death records from that time? My ggggrandfather listed his birthplace as Syracuse in 1819. That of course may mean a community near Syracuse. So I'm interested in his birth record and his parents deaths. The verbal story in the family says that they died soon after his birth. ONONDAGA HOLLOW

Thu, 7 Nov 1996 13:19:56 Am seeking information on the town of Onondaga Hollow, Onondaga Co., NY, during the period from 1807-1835. My ancestor, John GRIDLEY lived there during those years and owned a "Tannery and Boot and Shoe Shop". It was said that he left the area due to the "Panic of 1833". Family history says that he lived in a large stone house. What was the "Panic of 1833", and were stone houses common to that time and area? John GRIDLEY married Nancy Seely, 4 Jul 1809. They had 11 children, four of which died in Onondaga Hollow while young. Where might these children be buried? They died between the years of 1810 and 1816. Two of the children died during the month of Sep 1816. Was there an epidemic during that year?

Fri, 08 Nov 1996 16:48:36 My wife and I have only been interested in genealogy for about a year. We have traced my family back to 1850 Syracuse and the Catholic church of Assumption and the related cemetery. Any information that you could steer us to would be extremely helpful. We live in Grand Prairie, TX. Thanks. Bob Sessler EMail: [email protected]
