Newton King, 82, Historical Assn. Leader, Dies

Newton Earl King, 82, died at
his home, 915 Westcott St. yester-
day afternoon.
Mr. King was
a past president,
director and
member of the
executive com-
comittee of the
Onondaga His-
torical Assn. He
was instru-
mental some
years ago in
saving the early
town papers of
LaFayette from
destruction and
placed them in the archives of
the association. He also collected
and presented to the historical
museum many tools and house-
hold objects which had been ac-
tually used by Onondaga County
pioneers.
Mr. King was a past president
of the Syracuse chapter Sons of
the American Revolution and for
many years led the work of mark-
ing graves of Revolutionary sol-
diers in Onondaga County. His
efforts were largely responsible
for the outstanding record which
Onondaga holds for the complete-
ness with which the burial places
of her Revolutionary veterans have been
marked with memorial bronzes.
Surviving are two sons, Dr.
Alden J. King of Syracuse and
Alburtus V. King of LaFayette;
a daugther, Mrs. Douglas Keller
of Buffalo; six grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren and a niece.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday at the Hall Funeral
Home, LaFayette, and 2 p.m. in
LaFayette Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in LaFayette Ceme-
tery. Friends may call tomorrow
from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
