From the Journal, dated November 21, 1874
Death of Judah Gage - A venerable and much respected citizen,
Mr. Judah Gage, departed this life, after a somewhat protracted illness,
at his residence in the First Ward this morning. He was in his eighty seventh
year. Born in Rensselaer County, Mr. Gage came to Onondaga Hill about fifty
eight years ago, and shortly afterwards removed to the then village of
Salina, wher he has since resided. He was in early life a farmer, and subsequently
a manufacturer of salt. He did service in the war of 1812 and was a pensioner
therefor. Mr. Gage was one of the early settlers whose numbers are rapidly
growing less, and he was throughout his life an active and esteemed citizen.
His wife, to whom he was married sixty years ago, survives him. Notice
of funeral services elsewhere.
