MARCELLUS FALLS, NEW YORK Heffernan, Kathryn C. Nine Mile Country. Published by Visual Artis Publicans, Inc. 1978. p. 24. Copyright by the Board of Trustees, Marcellus Free Library, Marcellus, NY "The largest and most active of the early hamlets in the Town of Marcellus was Marcellus Falls, which grew up around the mills located where the power from Nine Mile Creek was most valuable. By 1835, it boasted about fifteen dwellings in addition to numerous mills, stores, and a tavern. The mill sites frequently changed hands as some ventures failed, new businesses opened, and those destroyed by fire were sometimes rebuilt by new owners. A post office was established sometime in the 1830's. The two-story wooden school on Glover Road, now an apartment house, was built sometime around 1850. The second story was at first used for prayer meetings." Submitted by John Curtin 23 May 1997
