I am seeking any info on my ancestor Leafy (CROSS) PORTER. Her real name may have been Relief CROSS. She married Orlando PORTER around 1851. They appear in Madison county in the 1860 census. Orlando is from Madison County (parents were Roswell & Nancy PORTER).
Leafy may be the daughter of Loyd CROSS. There is a man named Loyd CROSS buried next to her. His age indicates he may have been her brother, not sure though. Leafy is our family tree mystery. Family history hints that Orlando moved West in the 1840's and that Leafy was Native American (Plains Tribes?). They moved back to Madison County after the death of his father. Any information would really be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Charles Newton BROWN was born 13 April 1855 in Brookfield, Madison, NY. (Believed to be the son of Robert William BROWN 1829-1925 and Mary Amelia TOWER 1832-?). I am seeking the marriage record for Charles Newton BROWN to his wife named in census records as "Nellie" (possibly born Sept 1856/1857 - New York, per census records). I need Nellie's maiden name. If anyone has access to marriage records, I would greatly appeciate it. The son of this union, Irving Henry BROWN was born 29 October 1888 in Madison, Wisconsin and went on to become a Gyspy Scholar and Lorist and published several books before his untimely death in 1940. I am researching his lineage as part of a college paper on his scholarly works among the Gypsy-American populations.

Thank you very much for all of your assistance!

Interested in info on Elijah PROCTER, Robert PROCTER and Robert PROCTER Jr, listed as neighboring Heads of Household in the 1800 Census for town of Brookfield. Can I assume they're all related? Perhaps father Robert w/2 sons? They may have migrated from Chester Mass. I think this Elijah was b 1773 in Mass, d 1807 in Brookfield, and had a son Elijah b 1805 in Brookfield. Elijah b 1805 migrated to NW Penna in 1830s. Any insights you can offer are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed.

James B. LEWIS was born in Madison Co. On Nov. 6, 1816. Around 1848, he married Lucinda ABBEY (b. ca 1822). He went to study medicine at Rush Hospital, Jo Daviess Co., IL. Their first child/son, Frank Spencer LEWIS, was born in PA, Jan. 1850. The family then travelled to Elizabeth, Jo Daviess, IL where they had three more sons: Fred W (1857), Henry Barber (1860) and Milton Clinton (1862). All but Frank Spencer LEWIS remained and died in Elizabeth, Jo Daviess, IL.
Would greatly appreciate any information or direction as to how to go about learning who the parents of Dr. James B. LEWIS were, as well as his wife, Lucinda ABBEY.
Many thanks in advance.

I am trying to piece together the history of land purchases in the Oneida Reservation from 1795 to 1840 and to assemble these onto a map. I have managed to cover the period up to the 1805 division between Christian and Pagan parties with reasonable accuracy, but from then onward I can not completely follow the language of the purchase agreements compiled in the Wemple Report. The 1807 purchase of the "Canastota Tract" is straightforward, but there is another tract that is described in the 1807 purchase with a starting point at the SE corner of Myndert WEMPLE's land that I can not plot.

Does anyone know a) if a map like this does exist somewhere online (if not, I will try to access some of the paper maps in the NYS Archives this summer) and/or b) what the second part of the 1807 purchase comprises?
