Little Nine NewsNewsletter of The Little Nine Partners Historical Society2002-1 (Index: Newsletters) (Index: Site) Harris Husted House CleanupThere will be a cleanup at the Harris Husted House Saturday June 1 from 9-11 a.m. Volunteers are needed. Ongoing ActivitiesTime is running out for photo submissions for our photo contest, which runs through July. In case you missed what this is all about, we are holding a contest, open to the community, for the photo which best represents Pine Plains. Twelve finalists will be chosen by a special committee and displayed at this Fall’s Ag Fair, where visitors to our booth will have an opportunity to vote on the one photo out of these twelve which they feel best fits that description. The grand prize winner will receive a dinner for two at the Stissing House and the winning photo will be put on our new postcard with photographer credits. The runners-up will receive gift certificates to local businesses. Entry forms with contest rules are available at the Pine Plains Library. The Little Nine Partners Historical Society is pleased to announce that we now have our own website! The web address is https://sites.rootsweb.com/~nylnphs/. All of our publications have been put out there, and it is generating a fair amount of genealogical requests and other email. Check it out!
The Little Nine Partners Historical Society is offering a $100 award to be presented at this year’s Stissing Mountain High School graduation ceremony to the graduating senior who we feel best completes the sentence, “I am interested in the study of history because..... “ in 50 words or less.
The idea for the award, like the photo contest, was in direct response to our concern that the Society was not visible enough in the community and that we needed to broaden its appeal. Wish ListThe Society is looking for a donation of a riding lawn mower preferably that mulches and has a bag attachment. Please call Scott Chase 398-5247 if you can fulfill this wish for us. Membership
The membership of the Society changed little from the previous year. As of May 2002, we showed 132 members (87 families), of which 82 are inactive. We had two new members, and three resignations. We sent sympathies to the families of George Tenore, Natalie Barton, and Newton Deuel.
