Livingston County Genealogical Society

Who Are We?
The Livingston County Genealogical Society in a non-profit organization founded in 1979(reorganized 1999), for the following purposes:
  • To Promote, aid and encourage genealogical research.
  • To Identify and record available genealogical records relating to Livingston County
  • To Hold meetings and conduct seminars to further genealogical knowledge.
Membership is open to all persons interested in genealogy. The society meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M., usually in the Conklin Room of the Dansville Public Library, 200 Main Street, Dansville,NY. These regularly scheduled meetings are opened to the public. Special project meetings and activities may be scheduled throughout the year.

Annual dues for the Society membership is $4 for individuals and families. All annual memberships commence May 1st and expire April 30th. Initial dues payments received after January 1st will be applied to the following year's membership unless applicant specifies otherwise.

Members may file Ancestor Charts and Family Group Sheets which are cross indexed to a file card system. Free checking of five names on this file for new members. Fee for non-members. Members are also entitled to hold office, vote on society business and to participate in all activities of the society.

The Dansville Public Library merely acts at this time as the repository for many genealogical books on loan to them and for the ancestor charts received by the society. Please do not them. Meeting of the Livingston Genealogical Society --- Dansville Public Library --- July 6, 1999

Attendees: Pat Harter, Dansville; Paul Culley, Alfred/Geneseo; Lynne A. Brill, Geneseo; Edwin Brill, Geneseo; Richard Lind, Avon; Cheryl Robson, Dansville; John Coe, Rush; Judy Coe, Rush; Kim Truax, Nunda; Bill Shaver, Dansville.

The meeting was called to order by President Bill Shaver at 7:15 PM.

Old Business:
Booth at the Hemlock Fair. Val Griffing was not present at the meeting so there was no discussion. Lynne Brill had volunteered to help Val, but with a new job in the offing, she is not sure of her participation in the set up Monday afternoon July 19th.

The Society Picnic will be held Saturday, July 31 at the Livingston County Campus Park, Pavilion #3, meal to be at 12 Noon. Bring food, drink and table setting for your family, plus a dish to pass. Follow the directions posted at the corner of Main and Grove Sts. in Mt. Morris and further up Grove Street for people that are not familiar with the location of the campus park.

The woman working at the Library Desk asked permission to interrupt the meeting long enough to inform us of the hour changes of the Dansville Public Library. Tuesdays they will be open from 1 PM until 8:30 PM, so we have the option of keeping our meeting the first Tuesday of every month to 7 - 8:30 or starting at 6:30 - 8:30. This will be discussed at our next regular business meeting.

It was moved by Pat Harter and seconded by Kim Truax, that Bill Shaver have permission to order and send payment for census microfilms for Steuben County for the years 1860 and 1870 at the cost of $9.95 per film, and the bill will be forwarded to Treasurer, Paul Culley for reimbursement. Passed.

It was moved by Pat Harter and seconded by Cheryl Robson that Kim Truax have permission to send out post card reminders to members that have not thus far paid their membership dues for the year and get reimbursed by the Society for her postage. Passed.

The Treasurer's report was presented by Paul Culley, Treas. Total funds on had as of July 6, 1999 $311.19. It was moved by Pat Harter and seconded by Kim Truax, that the Treasurer's report be approved. Passed

Kim Truax, Corresponding Secretary presented four or five inquiries she had received from people, via the mail, with interest in Livingston County Genealogy and made them available to members for response.

The meeting adjourned at 8 PM.
