Louisa White Diary
Louisa White
Diary - 1867-1870

Contributed by her Great Grandson Al White

If you look at the 1860 Poor House listing on the Lewis Co. site, you will see Warren White (my ggrandfather) as keeper and of course, living with him are my ggrandmother (Louisa) and their daughter (L. Ella). Only problem is that the names appear to be wrong. Anyway, they lived on the end of Stowe Street just below the Poor House and on the opposite side. (The house is still there) It appears that at one time they owned quite a plot of ground as they did some farming and had some animals. They also took in boarders from time to time and seemed to have many friends as they are mentioned coming and going. The daughter contracted consumption and died at the age of 21 in Vineland NJ and is buried in Lowville but I cant find where. My grandfather, W. Ernest White, was born in that house in 1864. Louisa died between 1871 and 1875. Warren died in 1880 and is buried in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. Like I mentioned, the diaries take in from 1867 to 1870.
