I have a few wonderful handwritten diaries that date back to the late 1800's -
Mary Graves wrote one of the diaries in 1904 while living in/near Remsen NY. She was married to George Graves, and I have two diaries of his that are from 1875 & 1877 - George wrote his diaries while living in Lewis County, NY.
The diaries have been listed on eBay. I hope that they will find their way into the hands of a historian or family member who will preserve them. If you would like the opportunity to bid on these diaries, Here are the links to the auction listings:

The Northern New York American-Canadian Genealogical Society ( www.nnyacgs.com) is holding its 24th Annual Spring Conference at the Civic Center in Keeseville, New York on May 19th and 20th.
 
We are proud to be hosting Denis Beauregard the world's foremost authority on Franco-gene research and the Beauregard family.

If you have Beauregards in your family, or if you want to know more about genealogical research in Quebec, come to see Mr. Beauregard on May 20th.

The Boonville Historical Club is looking for Descendants of Civil War Soldiers who served in Boonville's 97th New York State Volunteer Infantry (NYSVI), known as the Conkling Rifles.
 
The 97th included men from areas of Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis and others. They were led by Colonel Charles Wheelock, Major Charles Northrup, Majors Charles Buck, Joel T. Comstock, and N.D. Ferguson chaplain who died in service.
 
Erwin Park in Boonville has been chosen for the location of a historical marker to honor the soldiers of the 97th and everyone is invited to attend the program on Saturday Morning June 3, at 9am when the Boonville Historical Club will unveil the marker as part of the Boonville Chamber of Commerce's Best of Boonville weekend.
 
In 1899 New York State dedicated a granite monument to the volunteers of the 97th and over the years it  suffered damage, and now thanks to support from local government, organizations and individuals the Historical Clubs fundraising campaign has been able to perform repairs.
 
If you or someone you know is a descendant of a member of the 97th please send information regarding your relationship to the individual to the Boonville Historical Club c/o PO Box 313, Boonville, N.Y. 13309 and also let them know whether you plan to attend the program on Saturday June 3, 2006. Lewis County Historical Society Seeks Nominations For Historical Hall of Fame

Lewis County Historical Society is now seeking nominations for their second round of inductees.

Honorees must fit one or more of the following criteria:

-The honoree may be deceased or living;
-The honoree may have been a resident of Lewis County or its historical boundaries during his or her lifetime;
-The honoree may have made an important contribution at the county, state, national or international level;
-The honoree may have had an impact directly on the history of Lewis County;
-The honoree may have made a significant contribution to keeping history alive through their support of Lewis County Historical Society.

To propose a nominee, individuals may send a letter of support substantiating the qualifications of the nominee to Lewis County Historical Society at 7552 South State Street, Lowville, NY 13367 by May 1. Please provide your name, address and telephone number for the society to contact should the committee have any questions regarding your nominee.

Pine Grove Church re-issuing recipe book from 1940

The cookbook, "Home Tested Recipes", is being re-issued by Pine Grove Church.

Proceeds will be used to continue making improvements to this historic building.

"Home Tested Recipes" was originally published by the Methodist churches of New Bremen, Watson and Pine Grove. Approximately 180 recipes from 133 contributors, a forward, Bible verses, an ad and an index are included in this 58 page booklet. For further information call 315-348-8256.
