13 Feb 1835 in Erlenbrunn, Pfalz, Bavaria, son of Christian Peter [known as "Peter"] Traxel and Elisabeth Schütz of Ava, Oneida county, NY.  Erlenbrunn is within the parish of Pirmasens.  Adam's grandfather, Johan Peter Traxel, is the brother of August Traxel who is the father of my immigrant ancestor, Jacob Traxel.  So, Adam's father, "Peter" Traxel and my Jacob Traxel were first cousin's.

Obit of William F. Traxel     Constableville     Death of Esteemed Citizen Mourned     William F. Traxel Passed Away Saturday -- Was Town Clerk 22 Years     In the death of William F. Traxel Saturday morning at his home in this village, Constableville loses one of its best known and most highly esteemed business men.  Although Mr. Traxel had been in poor health for several years, he was about his home as usual until Thursday.     He was born at Mohawk Hill June 16, 1861, the oldest son of Adam Traxel and Margaret Myers Traxel. When a young boy his parents came to Constableville. He later learned the blacksmith trade, working with his father.     He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Mohawk Hill.     October 29, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Hamlin. Mrs. Traxel died September 17, 1915.     Mr. Traxel was a member of the Constableville Hose Company and Brass Band.  In politics he was a Democrat and always took an interest in the work of the village and town.  He held the office of town clerk of West Turin at the time of his death, an office that he had held for 22 years. For several years his name has appeared on both Republican and Democratic tickets.     He was a devoted husband and father and one who was very fond of his home. Since his  health began to fail, he had been kindly cared for by his daughters. He possessed a large circle of friends who will learn of his passing with regret.     He is survived by three daughters, Miss Mary Traxel, Albany, and the Misses Jane and Margaret Traxel and one son, James O. Traxel, residing at home. He also leaves five brothers, Charles, Henry, Fred, George and Edwin, all of Boonville; also several nephews and nieces. The funeran was held from his late home on Tuesday at 2 o'clock.

Traxel     Constableville - James Traxel, 86, of 3046 Main St., died early today at the Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, where he had been a patient for three and one half years.     He was born Oct. 1, 1884, in Constableville, son of William and Margaret Hamlin Traxel.  he attended Constableville High School and thereafter learned the blacksmith trade from his father, following that trade until illness forced him to retire.     Mr. Traxel was a member of St. Paul's Church, Constableville, and the Constableville Fire Department.     Surviving are two sisters, Miss Mary Traxel and Miss Margaret Traxel, both of Constableville.  Another sister, Jennie, died Feb. 26, 1962.     The funeral will be at 2 Friday at the family home in Constableville, with the Rev. Roy Sommers, rector of St. Paul's Church officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Constableville.     Friends may call at the family home today and Thursday at their convenience.

Obit of Mary E. Traxel     Constableville - Miss Mary E. Traxel, 94, of Main Street, a retired teacher and curator at Constable Hall for about 14 years, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1981, at the Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, after being seriously ill since Jan. 10.     Born in Constableville on April 21, 1886, she was a daughter of William and Margaret Hamlin Traxel.  She graduated from Constableville High School in 1903 and attended summer school, earning a state certificate.     Miss Traxel taught in rural schools in West Leyden, Lowville, New Haven, Conn., and Albany.  After World War I, she went to Washington, D. C., where she was employed at the War Risk Insurance Department for nearly two years.     She returned to New Haven, Conn., moving later to Albany where she taught school for about 26 years.  She retired from teaching in 1949, after which she served as curator of Constable Hall.     Miss Traxel was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Constableville Neighbors, and Senior Citizens.  She was a trustee of the Constableville Library Association and a life trustee of the Constable Hall Association.     In 1977, Miss Traxel published a book entitled "A History of Constableville."     Surviving is a sister, Miss Margaret Traxel, Constableville.     Services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the family residence, 3046 Main St., and at 10:30 in the St. Mary's Church.     Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Constableville.  Calling hours are at the family home tonight and Wednesday.  Arrangements are by the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville.  Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Obit of Margaret J. Traxel     Constableville - Miss Margaret J. Traxel, 90, of 3046 Main St., a retired nurse and teacher, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 1985, at Sunset Nursing Home, Booneville, following a long illness.     Born Oct 26, 1894 in Constableville, she was a daughter of William F. and Margaret Hamlin Traxel.  She graduated from Constableville High School in 1912.  She studied nursing at Geneva City Hospital and graduated in 1919.  Her first position was as assistant superintendent of the Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton.  For a time, she was employed at the Lewis County General Hospital as a scrub nurse.  Miss Traxel had been employed at Stanford University in California, and she also was employed at Rome Hospital for seven years.  She was last employed as a school nurse teacher for the Cooperative Board of Education at Lyons Falls, Port Leyden, Constableville and West Leyden.  She retired in 1969.     She received her certification to be a school nurse teacher from Plattsburgh Teacher's College.  Miss Traxel was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville, the Constable Hall Association, and the Retired Teachers' Association.     Surviving are several cousins.  She was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Traxel, who died Feb. 26, 1962, a brother, James Traxel, who died Dec. 2, 1970, and another sister, Mary Traxel, who died Feb. 23, 1981.     Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the family home at 3046 Main St., Constableville, and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Epixcopal Church.  Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Constableville.     Friends may call at the family home at their convenience starting at 1 p.m. Friday.  Memorials may be made to the Constableville Fire Department or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.  The Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville, is in charge of arrangements.

Obit of Glenn A. Traxel     Lyons Falls - Glenn A. Traxel, 67, who lived on Center Street in the summer and in Zephyrhills, Fla., in the winter, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1986, in East Pasco Hospital, Zephyrhills, after a brief illness.     Mr. Traxel was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Boonville, a son of Henry N. and Sadie Freeman Traxel.  He married Muriel Reed on February 18, 1961.     Most of his life was spent in the Boonville area.  Before Wolrd War II, he operated the Shell Service Station on the square in the Village of Boonville.  During the war he participated in the invasion of Normandy while serving in the Army.     After the war he returned to Boonville and was employed as an auto mechanic for many years at Shaffer Motors, the DeSoto-Plymouth dealer in Boonville.  He later with his brother, Charles Traxel of Boonville, operated the repair shop independently under the name of the Boulevard Garage.     In more recent years he had worked for Ronald Topa in his garage and for Brown Equipment Co., Boonville. In recent years he had also restored old automobiles.     Mr. Traxel was an accomplished musician who played the brass horn in Boonville, Lowville and Clark Mills bands. He was a member of the Boonville Methodist Church and the Boonville Masonic Lodge.  He was a life member of Hennessey Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the South Lewis Lions Club of Lyons Falls.     Surviving besides his wife and brother are one daughter, [private]; one son [private]; four stepsons, [private]; two stepdaughters, [private], a sister, [private]; four grandchildren, 17 stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-grandchild.     Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Trainor Funeral Home, Boonville. Burial will be in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.  Contributions may be made to the Boonville Methodist Church.

Obit of Myrtle Larrivey Traxel     Boonville - Myrtle L. Traxel, 91, formerly of 625 Post Street, Boonville, who recently resided in Rome, died Thursday, April 11, 1985, in Rome Hospital, after a long illness.     She was born June 14, 1893, in Forestport, the daughter of Oscar and Laura Williamson Larrivey.     Her younger life was spent on a boat in the Erie Canal, which her family operated between Buffalo and Long Island.  The family later settled in Boonville.     Years ago, she was employed at a silk mill in Boonville.     She was married to Fred J. Traxel Sept. 2, 1914, in Boonville.  Mr. Traxel died Aug. 31, 1955     Surviving are two sons, George F. Traxel, Rome, and Seth A. Traxel, Utica; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Elizabeth) Crill, Marcellus, and Miss Myrtle L. Traxel, Rome, one brother, Roland (Jack) Larrivey, Boonville, and two grand-children.     Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Boonville Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.     Contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville. Traxel, 91, who lived on Post Street for many years before entering a nursing home in Rome in 1980, died at Rome Hospital April 11, 1985.  Mrs. Traxel was the widow of Fred J. Traxel, also of Rome; a brother, Rolan (Jack) Larrivey, Boonville, and two grandsons, John and James Crill.     Funeral services were held April 13, 1985, at the Trainor Funeral Home, where Rev. Kenneth F. Connor, supervisor of the Headwaters Field of Episcopal Churches, officiated.  Interment was made in Boonville Cemetery.  Those who served as pall bearers at the funeral were: James Crill, Charles Traxel, Jack Traxel, Edward Larrivey, Ronald Traxel and John Traxel.

Obit of Mrs. Elizabeth T. Crill     Boonville - Mrs. Elizabeth Traxel Crill, 67, of 25 South St., Marcellus, a native of Boonville who has relatives in Rome, died today, June 29, 1988, at the Auburn Memorial Hospital.     She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Boonville, daughter of Frederick and Myrtle Larrivey Traxel. She was a resident of Borodino for 35 years.     Mrs. Crill was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.  She attended Borodino United Methodist Church.     Surviving besides her husband, Raymond K. Crill, Marcellus, are two sons, [private]; two brothers, [private]; a sister, [private], and three grandchildren.     Services will be private. Burial is in the Borodino Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements were by the Norris Funeral Home, Marcellus. Contributions may be made to the Borodino United Methodist Church, RD 3, Skaneateles, N.Y. 13152.

Obit of Karl E. Traxel Karl E. Traxel Dies Suddenly Boonville was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Karl E. Traxel, who died unespectedly Monday morning, Sept. 20, 1954, at a camp on Black River, where he and his family had been staying the past week or ten days. Karl, as he was more familiarly known by his many friends, took a very active part in affairs of the community, and for 18 years served as superintendent of the Boonville Municipal Commission.  During his superintendency, many changes and improvements were made, leading to better efficiency in the services rendered by the commission.  When trouble arose, day or night, Karl was always on the job to help solve the problem. Born Sept. 22, 1902, in Constableville, he was the son of Edwin R. and Elizabeth Leichty Traxel.  He attended Union Free School, of Constableville, and later Boonville High School.  April 16, 1930, he and Irma Louise Reber were married in Boonville, he was the son of Edwin R. pastor of the Methodist Church, performing the ceremony. For 14 years he was employed by the New York Central Railroad as freight clerk at the Boonville Depot and was formerly a member of the new York State Police.  He had been employed by the Boonville Municipal Commission for the past 20 years, 18 as superintendent.  For the past several years he has served as village treasurer. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonville Lodge 165, F. & A. M., Boonville Fire Department and the Boonville Conservationists. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, [private];  two brothers, Hubert M., Miami, Fla., and John G., Boonville; also an uncle, and several cousins. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday from the Trainor Funeral Home.  The Rev. Alton Parker, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated, with Rev. Robert Holmes, former pastor now serving the Little Falls Methodist Church, assisting.  Burial was in Boonville Cemetery. Boonville Lodge, F. & A. M., called Tuesday night at the funeral home and conducted ritualistic services. On Wednesday night, the Victory Class of the Methodist Church and the Boonville Fire Department called at the home. Obit of Irma Reber Traxel Cyr     Boonville - Irma Reber traxel Cyr, 84, a native and lifelong resident of Boonville, died at Sunset Nursing Home on March 23, 1995.     Born on November 1, 1910, she was the daughter of Fred W. and Irma Jackson Reber.  She graduated from Boonville High School and for several years was employed at O'Donnell's Book Store in Boonville.  She was later employed by the Village of Boonville for many years before retiring in 1978.  She married Karl E. Traxel in 1930.  He died on September 20, 1954.  Her marriage to Frederick J. Cyr took place on July 22, 1961, in Olean.  Mr. Cyr died on April 24, 1984.  Mrs. Cyr lived on West Street for many years before entering Sunset Nursing Home last November.     A lifelong member of Boonville United Methodist Church, Mrs. Cyr had been a member of the church choir for more than 60 years.  An accomplished musician and vocalist, she had also served as the church organist.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Salma Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.      Mrs. Cyr is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, [private];  and two grandchildren, [private].     A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Boonville United Methodist Church, where Reverend William Mudge, pastor, will officiate.  At her request, there will be no calling hours and after cremation in Waterville, interment will be made in Talcottville Cemetery.     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boonville Fire Company Ambulance or to Boonville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.     The Trainor Funeral Home of Boonville is in charge of arrangements.

1.8.2.  Hubert M. Traxel, b. 9 Apr 1914 in Boonville, d. 20 Apr 1970 in Miami, FL
 

Obit of Hubert H. Traxel     Hubert H. Traxel Dies in Florida     Hubert H. Traxel, 56, formerly of Boonville died April 20 in Miami, Fla., after a brief illness.     He was born in Boonville and was well known in this area as a musician. He married Gladys Burton of Utica in 1941.     Mr. Traxel was a veteran of Wolrd War II, having served in Belgium, Holland, and France in a Railroad Operations Battalion.    At the time of his death, he was president of Local 734 of the Pipefitters Union. He was also active in a government sponsored agency which trained minority groups for positions in the various unions.     He is survived by his wife, a son, [private], his [two] daughters, [private]; and a brother John G. of Boonville.
