Last Will and Testament of Casper Clow

                The last will and testament of Casper Clow of the Village of Athens in the County of Greene.

I Casper Clow considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in manner and form following (that is to say) First I order and direct that as soon after my decease as conveniently may be my Executors pay all my debts and funeral charges – Second I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Bartley the wife of David Bartley the sum of fifteen dollars – Third I give and bequeath unto Christina Van Housen Wife of Albert Van Housen the sum of fifteen dollars – Fourth I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eleanor Van Housen Wife of John Van Housen the sum of ten dollars – Fifth I give and bequeath unto my son John C. Clow the sum of four dollars – Sixth I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Christina Clow daughter of my son Abraham Clow deceased the sum of twelve dollars – Seventh I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catharine Hallenbeck Wife of Abraham Hallenbeck deceased the sum of five dollars – Eighth I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Clow the sum of twelve dollars – Ninth I give and bequeath to my grandson Simeon Bartlett the sum of thirty dollars – Tenth I will direct and order that my Executors or any two of them or their survivors or survivors after my death (if the same be not sold by me previous thereto) be hereby empowered to sell and convey either at public auction or at private sale as to them may seem proper as of their own Estate to any person or persons their heirs Executors administrators or assigns all my right title interest claim or demand either in Law or at Equity to any land I may die seized of or have a right to be possessed of and execute therefor in their own names for me and as my executors a good and sufficient title to the purchaser or purchasers and my Executors herein after mentioned are also hereby empowered to sell all such personal Estate as I may be in possession at the time of my death or which I have any rights to either in law or at Equity to any person or persons –

And I do further order and direct that such sale of my real and personal estate take place within twelve months after my death and further that my Executors within six months thereafter pay the aforesaid legacies if there be sufficient avails on their hands after the sale aforesaid and if there should not be sufficient I then order and direct that my legatees be paid ratably out of the funds in the hands of my Executors after the payment of my debts and funeral charges and the surplus of such monies as may remain in their hands after the payment of the debts and legacies aforesaid I will order and direct shall be equally divided share and share alike among the following persons who are my residuary legatees of such property as may remain after the payment of the Legacies and debts aforesaid namely Hannah Bartley Wife of David Bartley Christian Van Housen Wife of Albert Van Housen Eleanor Van Housen Wife of John Van Housen Christina Clow daughter of my son Abraham Clow my son Richard Clow and my grand son Simeon Bartlett

Lastly I do hereby appoint and constitute my friends Casper Hallenbeck William Tolley and my son Richard Clow my Executors of this my last will and testament and do hereby authorize as my Executors to do such acts as may be necessary in the premises for the recovery of any lands tenements or any property of any kind whatsoever to which I may have a right either in law or at Equity and to dispose of the avails thereof in the manner particularly set forth in this my last Will and testament – In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the eleventh day of September one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven

Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Casper Clow to be his last Will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of  other Testator
