Party of the 1^st part: Samuel Everett and Anas his wife of Cairo
Party of the 2^nd part: Hannah Serring ( Serrin / Searing ) of Durham

Hannah Serring purchased 48.84 acres of land in the town of Cairo from Samuel and Anas Everett, for the sum of $458.40.

Land was bounded by Orrin C. . (?) on the Susquehannah Turnpike Road, John Barker, Chauncey Hopson and (?) Dedrick.

Vol. R, page 84 – Indenture made 12 January 1832
Party of the 1^st part: Ira Hues and Sally his wife of Durham
Party of the 2^nd part: Arnold Hufser ( Husser / Hulser ) of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY

Arnold Hufser purchased 25 acres of land in the town of Durham from Ira and Sally ( Serrin / Serring / Searing ) Hues for the sum of $435.00.

Land was bounded as follows: "Beginning at the injunction of two roads, near the house in which the widow Hannah Searing now resides, running thence westerly along the Road to the land now in the possession of Jeremiah Fordham, thence northerly on the line of the said Fordham and Amos Hamlin, thence easterly on the line of the said Hamlin and Mr. Mudge to the place where the land of said Mudge and Thomas Williams corner, thence southerly along the road to the place of beginning, containing twenty-five acres of land be the same more or less."

Zachariah Pultz purchased 48.84 acres of land in the town of Cairo from Hannah Serring, for the sum of $500.

Land was bounded by Frederick Crasper, John Barker, and Chancy (Chauncey) Hopson. (comment: This is the land purchased by Hannah Serring 11 May 1824.)

Jehiel Tyler purchased 20 acres of land in the town of Durham from Phinehas Tyler, for the sum of $200.

Land was bounded as follows: "Beginning on the south side of the highway leading from the Susquehannah turnpike near the old Linsley tavern stand to Windham and in the west line of Elisha Tyler’s land nearly opposite to the Tailor’s shop; and running thence south five degrees, east eleven chains and twelve links to a stake and stones in the north line of the farm formerly owned by Wilkey Stilwell; thence north seventy-five degrees, west ten chains; thence north eighty-seven degrees, west four chains and seventy-five links to the eastern bounds of the highway; thence along the same these several courses north twenty-seven degrees, east five chains and sixty links; and north sixty-eight degrees, east five chains; north fifty-six degrees, east two chains and seventy-five links; and south eighty-eight degrees, east four chains to the place of beginning, containing ten acres be the same more or less. Excepting and reserving from the above-described lot or parcel of land a piece of land heretofore – to wit – on the 16^th day of November 1823 conveyed by the said party of the first part to Miles Hotchkiss (which by reference to the same will more fully appear). . . "

DEED betw WILLIAM JORDAN and SAMUEL WEST (of the 1^st part) and IRA HUES (of the 2^nd part)
For conveyance of land originally belonging to AMOS SEARING
(From Greene Co. Deeds Vol. R – pgs 85-86) – transcribed by Judy Davison

This Indenture made the tenth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty-two between William Jordan and Samuel West, the former of the County of Columbia and the latter of the County of Otsego in the State of New York of the first part, and Ira Hues of the County of Greene in the State aforesaid of the second part – Whereas Amos Searing, late of the town of Hillsdale in the County of Columbia aforesaid died seized of certain real estate, lands and tenements with the appurtenances situate, lying and being in the County of Greene and in the County of Columbia aforesaid and whereas the said Amos Searing in and by his last will and testament charged the said real estate with the payment of legacies to a large amount and devised the residue of his real and personal estate to his son Amos Searing who was at the time of his decease an infant, and appointed the said William Jordan and Samuel West Executors of his said last will and testament and whereas on the nineteenth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twelve the legislature of the State of New York passed an act entitled "an act in the relief of the heir and devisees of Amos Searing deceased", by which said act the said William Jordan and Samuel West were appointed trustees with full powers to grant, bargain and sell the real estate aforesaid and to execute good and sufficient conveyances in the law for the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof – and whereas in pursuance of that section of the aforesaid act the said William Jordan and Samuel West have executed a bond to the heirs of the said Amos Searing deceased with two sureties approved of by the Chancellor of the State of New York in such sum as by the said chancellor was directed, conditioned for the due and faithful performance of their said trust which said bond is now on file in the office of the Surrogate of the County of Columbia for the use of the said heirs (..?..) William Jordan and Samuel West (..?..)* sold, aliened, remised, released, en(feossed?) and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, remise, release, en(feoss?) and confirm unto the said Ira Hues and to his heirs and assigns forever all that certain piece, parcel, tract or farm of land situated, lying and being in the town of Durham in the County of Greene aforesaid being part and parcel of the real estate aforesaid and butted, bounded and described as follows. That is to say, beginning at the Junction of two roads near the house in which widow Hannah Searing now resides running thence westerly along the road to the land of Asa Tryon, thence Northerly on the land of said Tryon and Amos Hamlin, thence Easterly on the land of the said Hamlin and Mr. Mudge to the place where the lands of the said Mudge and Thomas Williams corner, thence Southerly along the road to the place of beginning containing twenty-five acres of land be the same more or less. Together with all and singular the rights, members, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining – To have and to hold the above granted bargained and described premises with the appurtenances unto the said Ira Hues and his heirs and assigns forever in as full, free, absolute and ample a manner as they the said William Jordan and Samuel West by virtue of the act aforesaid have a right to grant, bargain, sell and convey the same. In witness whereof the said William Jordan and Samuel West have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written – signed, sealed and delivered.

I do therefore allow the same to be recorded.

Comment: The name "Jordan" appears at times to have been written "Jordon".

* There is a section at the bottom of the page in the deed book that did not copy well and is nearly impossible to read. I will attempt to obtain another copy and complete the transcription here. There is also a word I do not know "enfoeff" – could it be "enforce"? If anyone can give me the correct spelling, I’ll appreciate it.
