Revolutionary War Soldiers in
Greene County

British Surrender at the Battle of
Saratoga, NY 1777

Painting of the surrender that hangs in the United States Capitol Rotunda

Greene County was not formed as a county in its own right until 1800, therefore researchers must look to the Albany and Ulster County records in hopes of discovering information regarding the enlistment of men to the Revolutionary War from this area.

Many Revolutionary War soldiers are buried in Greene County, largely due to the fact that many were pioneers and settled in Greene County after the end of the Revolutionary War. It appears that most settlers in Greene County immediately after 1776 came from Dutchess County in New York, and from Connecticut.
