New Baltimore School Centralization

New Baltimore Schools
The Path Toward Centralization

Contributed by Clesson Bush, New Baltimore Town Historian

Riding the crest of New York State's original involvement with the common school, the Town of New Baltimore, only two years old, created  9 school districts in 1813, expanded up to 17 in 1866, contracted down to 11 when the State's consolidation frenzy began around 1930 to none today. The following is a summary of how New Baltimore's schools came to be part of the centralized school districts in surrounding communities.  Several of the schools continued to operate after consolidation.  By the mid-1960s, though, all had been closed.
