Clyde Flansburg
Clyde F. Flansburg, 90, formerly of Coxsackie, died Monday, August 30 at Barnwell Health Facilities, Valerie.
Born in Medway January 20, 1914, he was the son of the late Oliver H. and Pearl C. (Friend) Flansburg.
Flansburg was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and was a past warden of the vestry.
Prior to his retirement, he worked at the American Valve Corp. In his youth, he served as purser aboard the Chauncey M. Depew with the Hudson River Dayline.
Survivors include his son, Gerald Flansburg and wife Donna of Kinderhook; a daughter, Joyce and husband the Rev. Henry Verdaasdonk of Coxsackie; six grandchildren, Sherry Rose of Albany, Wayne Verdaasdonk of Hampton, VA, Joseph Verdaasdonk of Corfu, Karen Ressler of Kinderhook, Kathleen Flansburg of Warwick and Kevin Flansburg of Boston, MA; and six great-grandchildren.
His wife, Danetta (Lennon) Flansburg, predeceased him.
Funeral services are Friday, September 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Mansion Street, Coxsackie. The Rev. Michael Gorchov, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Catskill is the celebrant.
Burial follows in Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.
Calling hours are tonight, September 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.

Joyce Halvorsen
Joyce Marie Halverson 49, of Earlton, died at her home on Thursday, August 26.
Born at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL, on May 7, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Dwayne and Dolly (Mangiocapra) Halvorsen.
A resident of Earlton since 1971, she moved here from Long Island.
Halvorsen graduated from Cairo High School in 1973 and from Columbia-Greene Community College in 1975.
She was employed by the Greene County Health Department for 23 years, retiring in April 2003.
Survivors include her brother, John Halvorsen of Earlton; two nieces, Erin Pelton of Catskill and Gerrianne Halvorsen of Earlton; two nephews, Jason Pelton of New Jersey and John Halvorsen of Earlton; and a great-nephew, Sean Pelton.
Funeral services were private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were with Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, Catskill.

Frank Brown
Frank Daniel Brown, 105 of West Coxsackie, died Monday, August 30 at Barnwell Health Facilities, Valerie.
He was born in Brooklyn March 9, 1899, the son of the late Edward and Johanna Brown.
Brown served in the Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an inspector with the American Value Co. of Coxsackie.
He had been a resident of the Coxsackie area for more than 85 years.

Elizabeth Delanoy
Elizabeth Ann Delanoy, 75, of Catskill, died Wednesday, September 1 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
Born in Auburn May 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles Bunnell and Antoinette (Rickert) Kreitner Delanoy was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill. She was a former employee of New York Telephone Company in Catskill.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Delanoy of Catskill, Darlene Kubler and husband Robert, and Tammi McGrath and husband Michael, all of South Cairo, and Valerie Bunce and husband Gregory, both of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kreitner 0f Catskill; 10 grandchildren, Robert V. Delanoy Jr., Kyle R. Kubler, Jeremy R. Kubler, Brittany N. Kubler, Brett K. Kubler, Tyler K. Kubler, Kristen E. Bunce, Kari Ann Bunce, Michael R. McGrath and Zackarty T. McGrath; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Delanoy; a son, Robert V. Delanoy Sr.; and four siblings George W., Donald and James H. Kreitner, and Barbara Kellog.
Internment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

Barbara Weeks
New Baltimore Town Clerk Barbara Elaine Weeks, 53, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 4 at Albany Medical Center.
Born August 10, 1951 in East Rockaway Long Island, she was the daughter of Elaine Wood of Albany and the late Martin C. Smith.
Weeks was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oneonta with a degree in culinary arts.
She was first elected town clerk in 1988 and was a member of the New York State Town Clerks Association and treasurer of the Columbia-Greene Town Clerks association.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Albany.
Weeks enjoyed crafts, especially Christmas arts and crafts, and needlepoint. She made the wreath that is at the entrance of the New Baltimore Town Hall.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Weeks, whom she married October 19, 1974 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church; her son, Cpl. Mathew B. Weeks, USMC, of New Baltimore; a brother, Raymond W. Smith of Altamont; and her nieces and nephews, Gordon Smith, Harry and Barry Braker, Jonathan, James and Joseph Caparoso, and Susan, Michael and James Weeks.
Funeral Services are today, September 9. at 9:30 a.m. from Sopris Funeral Home, 11877 Route 9, West Coxsackie.
Burial follows in the Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, Long Island.

Naomi Bogardus
Naomi Bogardus, 89, of Coxsackie, died at St. Peter’s Hospice on Thursday, September 2 after a battle with lung cancer.
Born in Ravena August 13, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Delanso and Cora (Van Leuven) Rowe and the widow of Kenneth Bogardus, who predeceased her in 1998.
Bogardus resided in Coxsackie for 70 years. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and playing the organ.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Lazar of Delmar; grandchildren Karen Travis and husband James of Delmar, Lynne Goodridge and husband Charles of Saratoga Springs and Gwenn Lazar of Albany; great-grandchildren Brooke and Grant Travis and Gracelyn and Owen Goodridge; and nephew Thomas Tracey and wife Patricia.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Vera Mae Tracey and Mildred Faber, and a brother, Harold Rowe.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coxsackie.

Arbreta Phelps
Arbreta Phelps, 94, of Cairo, died Tuesday, August 31 at Eden Park Nursing Home, Catskill.
Born in Maplecrest June 18, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Inez (DeLong) Phelps.
Phelps was a retired licensed practical nurse who had worked for several years in hospitals in the White Plains area.
She was a member of the Maplecrest Methodist Church and DAR, and the Greene County Humane Society.
Survivors include her cousins, Earl “Ozzi” Ostrander of Kingston and Alvena Hitchcock and Douglas DeLong of East Jewett.
Burial was in the Freehold Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

Marion Waldron
Marion J. (Frey) Waldron, 73, of Ravena, died Monday September 6 after a long illness.
Born in Hudson Falls June 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Glenwood and Lena (Gerioux) Martin.
Waldron had been an area resident for more than 40 years. She enjoyed singing, playing guitar and growing flowers.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Shaffer of New Baltimore and Jaclyn Matter of Earlton; a son Roger Frey of Alden; three sisters, Elizabeth Ferriere of Flager Beach, Fl, Nancy Boomhower of New Baltimore and Marylou Firstuin of Earlton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Willard Waldron, two brothers, June and Robert Martin and a sister, Martha Martin predeceased her.
Burial of her remains was in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Coxsackie.

Margaret Engelmann
Margaret S. “Peggy” Engelmann, 77, formerly of Cairo, died Wednesday, September 8 at Eden Park Health Facility, Catskill, where she had been a patient since February 10, 1997.
She was born in Sunside October 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Sara (Moore) Snyder.
Engelmann was a lifetime area resident and was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and beachcombing in Florida.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Engelmann of Cairo; a son, Jeffrey Engelmann and wife Carola of South Cairo; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Karin) Colangelo of Purling, Pamela Yost of Kingston and Wendy Overbaugh of Colorado; seven grandchildren, Christie, Carra, Carly, Caytie, Michael, Casie and Ashley; and a great-grandchild, Tristin.
Burial was in the Cairo Cemetery.

Lloyd Foster
Lloyd V. Foster, 78, of South Cairo, died Tuesday September 7 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a long illness.
He was born in New York City August 27, 1926.
Foster had been a resident of Cairo for the last 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Cairo School District.
Survivors include a son, Carl Foster of Cairo; four daughters, Patsy, Debbie, Judith, and Bonnie Foster; two brothers, Kevin Foster of Hudson and Ivan Foster of Johnstown; a sister, Yvonne Foster; and several grandchildren.
Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium, Menands.
Arrangements were with the Richards Funeral Home, Cairo.

Sharon Ann Weiss
Sharon Ann Weiss, 47, of Putnam Station, died Saturday, September 11 at her home.
Born in Catskill October 9, 1956, she was the daughter of the late James and Irma (King) Weiss.
Weiss had been a resident of Putnam Station for many years. She was previously employed by the state Department of Corrections as a purchasing agent and most recently was a librarian at the Ticonderoga Elementary School.
Her hobbies included watching wildlife, canoeing, hiking, and fishing.
Survivors include her daughter, Abby Weiss of Putnam Station; her companion, Richard Beebe of Putnam Station; four brothers, James Weiss of Madera, CA, George Weiss of Round Top, Clifford Weiss of Catskill and Allen Weiss of Purling; two sisters, Lynn Dittmar of Round Top and Kay Policastro of Parsippany, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Gail McIntosh, died before her.
Burial was in Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
Arrangements were with the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, Ticonderoga.

Katherine Sapone
Katherine Sapone, 66, of Athens, died Saturday, September 11, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born June 25, 1938 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Knegel) Konsul.
Sapone attended St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Frank T. Sapone; two sons, Frank J. Sapone and companion Heidi J. Iten, both of Coxsackie, and Anthony J. Sapone and wife Louella both of Savannah, GA, a daughter, Catherine Lang and husband Frank, both of Catskill; two brothers, John Konsul and wife Carol of Athens and Anthony Konsul and wife Blanche of Hannacroix; three sisters, Ann Brennan and husband James, Marie Sapone and Stella Decker, all of Catskill; three grandchildren, Frank, Cassandra and Rachel Lang, all of Catskill; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

Juanita Van Slyke
Juanita F. “Ginger” Van Slyke, 82, of Coxsackie died Friday, September 10 at her home.
Born in Syracuse June 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Royal and Mary (Heath) Deerfoot.
Van Slyke had been an area resident for over 25 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing games, children and helping others.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Yates Hotel of Syracuse. She also owned and operated a roofing company for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Delores A. Nelson of California, Linda Anthony of Selkirk and Rachel “Shelly” Tanner of Arizona; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A son, Ralph Stamford, Jr., and her companion, Rusty Thurber, predeceased her.
Calling hours are today, September 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie.

Edwin Grossman
Edwin G. Grossman, 78, of Malta, formerly of Catskill and South Cairo, died Tuesday, August 31 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.
Born in Binghamton August 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Alex and Fanne (Plusch) Grossman.
Grossman graduated from Catskill High School in 1942 and from Drew University in 1946, served a year in the Army and then worked 42 years with Grossman Insurance.
He was a past president of the Albany and Hudson Valley Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Chapters, a chartered financial consultant and a stockbroker.
He enjoyed jazz and Dixieland music.
Grossman volunteered his time to many organizations, including the Catskill Boys Club, which was founded by his father, the Catskill Rotary Club, Greene County Historical Society, Catskill Little League, Toastmasters’ Club, the Greene County Economic Development agency, Memorial Hospital Endowment Corp. and many others.
He also chaired the Government Operations Committee in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Catskill; daughters Sue Chalmers of Connecticut and Julie Schumacher of Burnt Hills; sister Judith Hofbauer of Florida; granddaughters Ericka Lindsay, Elizabeth Schumacher, and Bonnie and Amy Chalmers; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment of his remains was in the town of Catskill Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Millsbaugh Camerato Funeral Home, Catskill.

John Dardani
John Joseph Dardani of Glenmont, died Friday, September 17 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.
Born in Coxsackie, he was the son of the late Alfred and Anna (Cella) Dardani.
Dardani was a graduate of Coxsackie High School, where he was an outstanding baseball, football and basketball player.
He served in the Army in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II.
He was employed by Conrail for more than 40 years, serving in many capacities, retiring in 1982 as an engineer.
Dardani was a charter member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club, a life member and past vice commander of the Coxsackie American Legion Post 166 and a former manager of the post’s baseball team.
He was a 15-year volunteer for the Coxsackie Meals on Wheels program, and a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Coxsackie.
He was the recipient of the General Douglas MacArthur Youth Award for his dedication to the youth of New York. The American Legion honored him with the annual John Dardani American Legion baseball tournament.
He and his wife of 49 years, Margery (Comerford) Dardani, lived in Glenmont for the last seven years and were communicants of St. Thomas Church in Delmar.
Besides his wife, survivors include his daughter, Margaret Ellen “Marcy” and husband Michael Zarcone of Loudenville; sisters-in-law Mrs. Eugene (Helen) Ramella of Rensselaer and Mrs. Raymond (Kathyrn) Hartigan of Lake Forrest, IL; his grandchildren, Margaret “Margie” Comerford Zarcone of Loudonville; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Renssselaer.

Henrietta Matera
Henrietta Matera, 82, of West Coxsackie, died Wednesday September 15, at Eden Park Nursing Home, Catskill.
Born in Brooklyn December 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mamie (Miller) Bethon.
Matera was employed by the New York City Department of Education at P.S. 145 in Brooklyn prior to her retirement.
Survivors include her sons, James Matera of West Coxsackie, Edward Matera of Catskill and John Matera of Tafton, PA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Anthony J. Matera, died October 16, 1999.
Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, L.I.

Kenneth Bell Sr.
Kenneth E. Bell Sr., 53, of Norton Hill, died Saturday September 18 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.
Born December 17, 1950, he was the son of Ernest Bell of Scotia and the late Minnie (Case) Bell.
Bell was the owner-operator of Bell’s Trucking in Norton Hill and was a former member and past chief of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Co.
He had been incapacitated as a result of injuries received in an accident in Preston Hollow on November 5, 1990.
Besides his father, survivors include his guard, (ian?) Karen Bell-Winans of Medusa; a son, Kenneth Bell Jr. and wife Kelly of Norton Hill; two daughters Kimberly Anderson and husband Joseph of Oak Hill and Kandice Sutton and husband Jesse of Greenville; a brother, David Bell of Norton Hill; a sister, Catherine Mart of Glenville; four grandchildren, Madison Bell, Willobee and Kenneth Sutton and Garrett Anderson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Medusa Cemetery.

Murial German
Murial German, 76, of Freehold, died Sunday, September 19 at Eden Park Nursing Home, Catskill.
Born in Catskill March 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Smith) German.
German had been employed by Billbee Control in Cairo.
She enjoyed woodworking, making lawn ornaments and decorations. Her work can be found all over Albany and Greene Counties.
She also loved wildlife and enjoyed deer hunting. She had taken her share of trophy bucks.
Survivors include her sisters, Mildred Nethaway and husband Raymond of Freehold and Leta Payne and husband Frank of Greenville Center; nephews Gerald Payne and Glenn Payne and wife Denise; and great-nieces Stephanie and Ashley Payne.
Funeral services are today, September 23, at 11 a.m. from Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Burial is in the Freehold Cemetery.

Antonina Coniglio
Antonina Florence Coniglio, 89, of Edgewater, FL, died Thursday, September 16 at Terrace of Daytona Beach.
Born in Conesota, she moved to the Edgewater area in 1983 from Margate, FL.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Shrinettes of New Smyrna. She enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann Coniglio of Edgewater, FL, and Anita Hynes of Coxsackie; sisters Pauline Palverenti of Syracuse and Natalie Ferlo of Rome; brothers Vincent and Pepino Grasso, both of Rome; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Harriet Peloubet
Harriet C. Peloubet, 90, of Athens, died Saturday, September 18 at her son’s home in Rome.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, October 28, 1913, she was the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth (Travis) Clark.
Peloubet had lived in Athens most of her life and was a graduate of Athens High School.
She was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church in Athens and for many years was the Athens town tax collector.
Survivors include her son and two daughters-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Andrew D. and Patricia Peloubet of Rome and Sally Peloubet of Bluefield, WV; a brother and sister-in-law, Franklin B. and Winifred Clark of Athens; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A son, the Rev. Clark L. Peloubet of Bluefield, WV, predeceased her.
Private graveside services will take place in the Athens Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.

Eleanor Davis
Eleanor L. Davis, 74, of Westerlo, died at her home on Sunday, September 26.
She was born March 12, 1930 in Cairo, the daughter of the late John and Silvia (Dollan) Butts.
Davis was a lifelong homemaker and caregiver to many elderly people in the community.
Survivors include her children, Linda Stanley, Jerry Davis, Joseph Davis and wife Susan, Frank Davis and wife Donna, Betty Sill and husband Jim, Todd Davis and wife Valerie, Eric Davis and wife Holly. Theresa Davis, and Timothy Davis and wife Lauri; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Sanford Davis, daughters Tammy and Bonnie Davis and Laura Terry, brother Wesley Butts and sister Agnes Kirk predeceased her.
Internment was in the Westerlo Central Cemetery.

Frances Ernst
Frances A. Ernst, 83, of West Coxsackie, died Monday, September 20 at Samaritan Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late May Lillian Simon and Henry Gaddor.
Ernst was employed by the city of Albany and New York State for more than 30 years.
She was a veteran, having worked in the Women’s Army Corps and the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia “Chris” Pelton of West Coxsackie; sons Albert and wife Jane of La Mesa, CA, and Raymond of Albany; and brothers Robert Gaddor and Charles Simon.
Her husband, Albert O. Ernst, granddaughter Michelle Pelton, sisters Mary Vagele and Helen Dilello, and brother Raymond Gaddor predeceased her.
Burial was in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.

Henry Olthaus
Henry Olthaus, 85, of Catskill, died Monday, September 27 at Eden Park Care Center, where he had resided since August 10.
He was born in New York City on August 16, 1919.
Olthaus was employed as a security guard with J.P. Morgan Co. in New York City.
Upon his retirement, he moved to Coxsackie. In 1996 he became a resident of the Pavilion in Jefferson Heights.
He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.
He will be remembered by his friend, Larry McCarroll of Coxsackie.
Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium under the direction of the Millsbaugh Camerato Funeral Home, Catskill.

Ellen Schoenborn
Ellen Jane Schoenborn, 67, of Coxsackie died Friday, September 24.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, on October 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Hugo and Verona Scheuer.
Shoenborn had been a Coxsackie area resident since the early 1950s. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed reading, children and animals, and was a former member of the Kaksakee Chapter #873 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband Gustave C. Schoenborn Sr.; two sons, Gustave C. Schoenborn Jr. and Monte Schoenborn of Coxsackie; a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Jennifer) Lezatte of Athens; a brother, Hugo Scheuer Jr. of Milton; a sister, Marie Faboskay of Malta; and her nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Thomas Mullervy
Thomas Mullervy, 96, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Greenville, died at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Monday, September 20.
He was born in County Longford, Ireland, on June 22, 1908.
Mullervy was a retired motorman who worked for the New York City Transit Authority for more tan 35 years.
He was a member of the Greenville Irish American Club and a fourth degree knight in Our Lady of Knock Council Knights of Columbus in East Durham.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (McKee) Mullervy; a son-in-law Thomas Farley; two grandchildren, Thomas Farley and Maureen Schilling; two great-grandchildren, Farley and Charles Schilling; 14 stepchildren; and 26 step-grandchildren.
His first wife, Nora (McDonagh) Mullervy, and daughter Maureen Farley, died before him.
Burial was in the Greenville Cemetery.

Andrew Jablanski
Andrew A Jablanski, 78, of Athens, died Saturday, September 25.
Born in Hudson November 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Steven and Susan (Wassie) Jablanski.
Jablanski, an Athens resident since 1951, served in the Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, European Theatre and the Philippines.
He was formerly employed at McCall’s Refrigeration in Hudson and retired from the Coxsackie Correctional Facility in 1989, where he was employed in the power production facility.
Survivors include his children, Amber Keener of Syracuse, Andrew Jablanski Jr. and Mark Jablanski, both of Athens; brothers Joseph Jablanski of Hudson and Steven Jablanski of Philmont; sisters Anna Dallas, Susan Miller and Gertrude Stafkey, all of Hudson; grandchildren Patrick Keeler, Lexie Jablanski, Kyle Morrison and Kristi Greenburg; and many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Bertha Collesides, predeceased him on July 28, 2001.
Burial was in the New Athens Rural Cemetery.
