VIRGINIA MAE KLIMPEL
Collector
Virginia Mae Klimpel, 81, died at her residence in Racine, WI, on Tuesday, April 22.
She was born in South Westerlo, September 27, 1926 to the late Reuben and Millicent (Willsey) Swartout.
On December 25, 1950, she married Robert W. Klimpel. They moved to Racine in 1968. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1985.
Virginia was an avid collector of many things and enjoyed being in surroundings of her family, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Nelson and Pamela (Phillip) Rainwater both of Racine; grandchildren Cory (Tracy) Nelson and Kourtney Humburg, both of Racine, Stacey (Robert) Hammill of Kenosha and Shanna Rainwater of Milwaukee, WI; great-grandchildren Kai, Devyn, Caleb, Matthew, Luke and Kavin; a brother, Douglas Swartout of Evans Mills; brother-in-law Edward (Phyllis) Klimpel of Conneaut, OH; sister-in-law Marlene Klimpel of Tillson; and her nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her sisters-in-law Elaine Swartout and Dorothy (Sulc) Petersen; brother-in-law Donald Klimpel; and special aunt, Cora (Willsey) Miles.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in New York, where she will be interred with her husband Robert.
Memorial donations are suggested to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice, 1055 Prairie Drive, Racine, WI 53406.

Elizabeth Crotty, 88, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Durham, died Sunday, April 20.
She is survived by three children, Maureen Fox, Jo-Ann Crotty and Kevin T. (Loretta) Crotty; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Crotty and a daughter, Kathleen Crotty.
A memorial Mass will be held for John and Elizabeth Crotty at a later date.
Arrangements were by Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

LEONORA MARCELLO
Ex-Rosary Society member
Leonora Marcello, 85, of Greenville, formerly of Brooklyn and Oceanside, died at the Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush on Tuesday, April 22.
She was born in Brooklyn March 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanina “Jenny” (Fenimore) Rizzo.
Leonora was a former member of the Rosary Alter Society of St. John the Baptist Church and many senior citizens clubs.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a friend to all she met.
Surviving are five sons, Peter Marcello of Saugerties, Robert (Dianne) Marcello of Feura Bush, James (Eleanor) Marcello of Castleton, Paul Marcello of Greenville and Anthony (Michelle) Marcello of Freehold; a daughter, Theresa (Chris) Rebeor of Fairfax, VT; two sisters, Loretta Lupo and Joan Donnelly; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter J. Marcello, sister Mary Cipolla and brother Stephen Rizzo.
Burial was in the Greenville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Resident Council Fund, Evergreen Commons, 1070 Luther Road, East Greenbush 12061.

Emma L. (Peck) Hunt, 90, died Monday, April 21.
Emma was a 1935 graduate of Ravena High School. She was employed by Farm Family for many years and retired in 1982.
She was a member of the Coeymans Hollow Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Janet Chiorgno of Watervliet, Christine Hunt of Albany and Les (Wendy) Hunt of Selkirk; her sister, Marjorie Carpenter of Greenville; grandchildren Michelle (Dan) Foster Stephen Hunt, Krysta (Ben) Domery-Rogers and Tiffany Hunt; and six great-grandchildren.
Emma was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Raymond Hunt, son Eugene Hunt, grandson David Hunt, brothers Lincoln, Donald and Robert Peck, and sisters Josephine Slingerland and Jeanette Cary.
Burial was in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

Korean War veteran
Eugene H. Fenoff Sr., 78, of Hudson, died Wednesday, April 30 at his home.
Born in Littleton, NH, March 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Willie P. and Gladys Fenoff.
Eugene was employed many years ago as a mechanic. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a life member of H. W. Rogers Hose #2.
Surviving are his wife, Subrina Fenoff; his siblings, Ten Fenoff, Katherine “Kay” (Ralph) Dwyer, Emma (Gerald) Duncan, Beatrice (Leo) Hickey, Beverly (George) Livingston, formerly of Coxsackie, Harold (Judy) Fenoff, Gerald (Pat) Fenoff and Raymond (Linda) Fenoff; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Fenoff; a brother-in-law, Ed (Bev) Coons; eight children, Willie (Catherine) Fenoff of Tennessee, Carol Sax of California, Kathy Fenoff and fiancé John Way of Wisconsin , Cheryl Stodolski, Renee (Troy) Chin and Scott Fenoff, all of Florida, Jean Adele (Timothy) Howard of Hudson and Eugene (Elizabeth) Fenoff Jr. of South Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and five stepchildren, Linda Morse, Lousie Greenier, Laura Rafter and Donald and Cory Willoughby.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Richard Fenoff, a sister, Joyce Coons, and his son, Carl R. Fenoff.
Burial was in the Livingston Cemetery.

NANCY L. CLANCY

Nancy L. Clancy, 76, of Surprise, formerly of Staten Island, died Thursday, May 8 in St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, Albany.
She was born in the Bronx January 15, 1932, the daughter of the late Leonard and Anna Elvira Beck.
Nancy was employed as a secretary at Corn Products Co in New York City until she retired.
She loved to golf, play cards and do crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time at Clancy’s Rainbow Lodge visiting the many patrons she knew.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Bernard “Bernie” Clancy in 2005 and her two sisters.
Surviving are her four daughters, Kathleen Pineiro and husband Jose of Greenville, Christine Anger and husband Robert of Staten Island, Carol Clancy of Las Vegas, NV, and Kerry Clancy of Staten Island; and four grandchildren, Nichole Pineiro, Kaitlyn Murray, Bridget Anger and Chazz Clancy.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

John J. McManus, 86, of Norton Hill, died at his home on Sunday, May 11.
He was born in Mullaghboy, County Leitrim, Ireland on February 12, 1922, the son of the late Hugh and Susan (Gill) McManus.
John was a bus driver for the Queens Transport Co. until his retirement.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham and a member of Our Lady of Knock Council #6439 Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Greenville Irish American Club, the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre and the Leitrim Society.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Francis Quinn, and a sister, Margaret Mimna.
Surviving are his wife, Ann McManus; two daughters, Sr. Kathleen McManus, O.P., and Maureen Brosnan and husband Kevin; a son, John McManus and wife Siobhan; two sisters, Susan Lennon and Mary Tramonte, two brothers, Eugene and Bill Quinn; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

JAMES W. PARMITER
Carpenter
James Wilson Parmiter, 76, of Norton Hill, died at his home on Monday, May 12.
He was born in Oceanside on May 10, 1932, the son of the late Harold and Angeline (Johnson) Parmiter.
Jim married Janice Kay Neilsen and July 5, 1958 and together they raised a family of three. They came to this area 39 years ago. He was a carpenter who operated his own business, Jim Parmiter and Son, building contractors. He was well known for his building expertise and gardening.
Jim served as an elder in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenville. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Kay Parmiter; sons James Matthew Parmiter and wife Patricia and Timothy Niles Parmiter and wife Kathleen; a daughter, Janice Holly Brown and husband Joshua; three sisters, Ruth A. Parmiter, Florence Parmiter and Jane Marriott; a brother, Harold A. Parmiter and wife Ann; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services are Monday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Route 81, Norton Hill.

JAMES S. SLINGERLAND
Retired mechanic
James S. Slingerland, 74, of Westerlo, died at his home on Sunday, May 11.
He was born in Albany July 16, 1933, the son of the late Arthur J. and Mabel C. (Stewart) Slingerland.
James was a mechanic for Albany Asphalt until retiring. He was a member of Teamsters Local #294 in Albany.
He enjoyed rebuilding tractors and loved playing cards. James also loved to stop for coffee in the local coffee shops.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Slingerland.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Tallman) Slingerland; six sons, James M., William J., Kenneth, Scott, Ronald and Michael Slingerland; two daughters, Laura Casey and Tracy Lee; two sisters, Norma D’Alfonsi and Joan McDermott; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is today, May 15 at 8 p.m. at the South Westerlo Congregational Christian Church. Friends may call at the church prior to the service from 6 to 8 p.m.

Hilda A. Palliser, 71, of Cornwallville, died Thursday, May 18 quietly at her home after battling cancer since 2004.
She was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late John and Hilda Neske.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth L. Palliser; children Kenneth E. Palliser, MaryAnn Byrne, Scott and Ashley Palliser, and Maureen Lubinski; three brothers, a sister; and four grandchildren, Lawrence Byrne, Scott and Ashley Palliser and Michael Lubinski

Camille F. DeGiovine, 96, of Greenville, died Thursday, May15 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany.
She was born in New York City October 14, 1911, the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Ulip) Hoeflick.
She was raised in New York City, where as a young woman she worked as a statistical typist for a steel company, then as a homemaker raising a family.
After moving to Greenville in 1948 she worked for Baumann’s Brookside Resort as a chambermaid, which she enjoyed very much.
She was also a Cub Scout leader in the community. She was an excellent cook and baker.
Surviving are three sons, Donald (Marilyn) of Auburn, Raymond of Essex Junction, VT, and William of Greenville; granddaughters Barbara Fenton of Malta and companion Greg Tuttle of Altamont and Diane DeGiovine (Fred Bush) of Altamont; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Kyle Fenton and Chelsea and Alexander Bush; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Otello in 1984; a brother, Charles Hoeflick, who was killed in action Iraq in 2007; four sisters, Lillian (Dom) Torina, Mildred (Andy) Mako, Dorothy (Dick) Fieltz and Helen Tangren.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

Arthur Engel Jr. of Hannacroix died at Kaaterskill Care in Catskill after a short illness.
He was born in New Jersey August 28, 1938, the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Post) Engel Sr.
Arthur had worked for Conrail.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his friends and caregivers, Dana and William Garimone and Gary Moore.
Cremation took place at the Albany Rural Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

BERNARD KRUGER
Conrail retiree
Bernard J. “Bernie” Kruger, 88, of Greenville, died Monday, May 19 at The Pines at Catskill, formerly Eden Park.
He was born in Brooklyn August 25, 1919, the son of the late Charles and Agnes (DeWitt) Kruger.
Bernie served in the Army during World War II.
He retired from Conrail, where he was a trainman for 38 years.
Bernie was a former member of the Greenville American Legion Post #291.
He enjoyed fishing and bowling when able. He also enjoyed the fellowship at the lunches served at the Hiawatha Grange.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen Libby; a brother, Charles Kruger, a grandson, John Mardorf; two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Rosado; and four nephews, James, Harold, Dennis and Edward Kruger.
Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his wife, Julia (Nagy) Kruger, and two grandchildren, Joseph and Julie Rosado.
Funeral services are today, May 22, at 2 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Calling is from noon to 2 p.m.
Interment follows in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill.

Model enthusiast
Elliott Sossei, 85, of Coxsackie, died Tuesday, May 13 at St. Peter’s Hospice, Albany.
He was born in Queens September 25, 1922, the son of the late William C. and Blanche (Truelove) Sossei.
Elliott had been an area resident for 40 years. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was an avid model enthusiast for model airplanes and cars. He loved woodworking and gardening.
He was employed as a carpenter for New York State for 25 years.
He would have been married 60 years in June to his wife, Winifred J. (Sutton) Sossei of Coxsackie.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Steven and wife Tammi of Latham; seven grandchildren, Jason and wife Heather, Sarah and husband James, Christine and husband James, Jonathan and Benjamin and fiancee Jamie; and a great-grandchild, Justin.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Margaret Ann Jump and Barbara Ann Sossei.
Interment with full military honors was in Riverside Cemetery, Coxsackie.

FRED SCHMIDT
Ran tire business
Fred R. Schmidt of West Athens died Tuesday, May 13 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
He was born in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, on November 17, 1916, the son of the late Richard and Sophie (Knauss) Schmidt.
Fred served in the Army in India during World War II.
He was a charter member of the West-Athens-Limestreet Fire Co. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and loved the outdoors.
He lived in West Athens since 1924, operating a tire business with his brother, the later Walter Schmidt.
Surviviors include his three children, Anita Barnert of Cairo, Suzanne Schmidt of Fellsmere, FL, and Laurence Schmidt of Athens; their mother, Edith Coons of New Baltlimore; his daughter-in-law, Phyllis Schmidt of Athens; two nephews, Richard Schmidt of Magnolia, MA, and Walter Schmidt of Aurora, CO; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the West Athens-Limestreet Fire Co.

FRANCIS ‘FRANK’ DIVONE
Retired typesetter
Francis C. Divone, 81, of Oak Hill, died Monday, May 26 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
He was born in College Point September 17, 1926, the son of Bertha and Anthony Divone.
Frank was a typesetter for the Journal American Newspaper in New York City and a foreman of Clarkwood Corp. in Totowa, NJ.
He moved from Rockland County to Oak Hill in 1985.
Frank was a private first class in the 35th Infantry of the Army from 1944 to 1946. He was a heavy machine gunner, stationed in the Philippines.
He was a vice commander of the Durham Valley American Legion Post #1416 and commander of the Tri-Town Memorial VFW Post #7229.
He enjoyed volunteering for hospice, as an EMT and at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; sons Kenneth and wife Brooke and Frederick and wife Sheila; stepchildren Doreen Rossback, Stephen Rossback, Richard Rossback and Carl Rossback; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; an many nieces and nephews.
His first wife, Signhild, son Thomas, sister Ginny and brothers Ronny and Bob, predeceased him.
Viewing is today, May29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
Cremation follows the 11 a.m. service on Friday, May 30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oak Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Frank’s memory to Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.
