JOHN VAN WAGENEN JR.
John W. Van Wagenen Jr., 32, of Maybrook, formerly of Greenville, died Monday, January 30 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in December 2005.
He was born in Goshen June 7, 1973, the son of Linda (Thorp) Van Wagenen and the late John W. “Jack” Van Wagenen Sr.
He was a 1993 graduate of Greenville Central School and was employed as a corrections officer with the state Department of Corrections as Fishkill.
Van Wagenen was a sports fan who loved NASCAR, shooting pool in his pool league, football and baseball. He also liked hunting.
He loved his family and enjoyed all the family gatherings throughout the years.
Besides his mother, surviving are his sister, Janine Snyder and husband John: his brother, Mark Van Wagenen and partner Carolyn Perez; three nieces, Suzanne and Stephanie Snyder and Deanna Van Wagenen, all of Greenville; maternal grandparents Calvin and Margaret Thorp of Maybrook; uncle Paul Thorp (Tina) of Sacketts Harbor; aunt Kim Jordan (Randy) of Maybrook; aunt Ginny Medley (Robert ) of Walden; uncles John Manning of Walden, Beldon Van Wagenen (Barbara) of Middletown and Neil Van Wagenen (Bonnie) of Gardner; great-uncle Samuel Del Santa (Ruth) of Montgomery; great-aunt Rosanne Kearney (James) of Maybrook; godson Trevor Lawrence; and many cousins.
His paternal grandparents, Chauncey and Linda Van Wagenen, and Aunts Shirley Manning and Bessie Van Wagenen predeceased him.
Funeral services are Saturday, February 4, at 9:30 a.m. from the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard Street, Walden, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Maybrook.
Calling is today, February 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville, and Friday, February 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. Gridley-Horan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery.

HAZEL OWENS BANNON
Hazel Owens Bannon, 95, of Coxsackie, died at her home after a long series of illnesses.
She was born in Granville in 1911, the daughter of Welsh immigrants.
Bannon was a graduate of Granville High School. She retired from the state, where she served as secretary to the solicitor general and her administrative assistant during the Rockefeller administration.
Previously she was a personnel secretary at Glens Falls Hospital, and was administrative assistant to the editor in chief of Farm Journal magazine.
She held assorted secretarial jobs since her graduation from Mildred Ellie, where Mildred Ellie and her husband “Pops” were among her teachers.
Bannon lived in Glens Falls for many years as well as Wyndmore, PA, and Albany. She retired to Glenville before moving to Coxsackie.
Surviving are three children, David A. Bannon and wife Frances of Glenville, Carol Keenan and husband John of Pittsfield, MA, and Charles R. Bannon of Coxsackie; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and several cousins.
Her husband, Robert A. Bannon, predeceased her.
Gravesides services take place in the spring in Mettowee Cemetery, Granville.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heermance Library in Coxsackie or to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, Schenectady.

FRANCIS BARLOW
Francis E. Barlow, 83, died suddenly on Saturday, January 28.
He was born in Cairo July 20, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Ann (Snyder) Barlow.
Barlow was a World War II Army veteran who served in Central Europe and the Rhineland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
He was an electronics technician with Sperry-Rand in Lake Success prior to his retirement.
He loved to bowl and was a member of several seniors groups.
Surviving are his son, Edgar Barlow and wife Juana of Lake Ronkonkoma; his daughter, Vaika “Vicky’ Poole of Climax; six grandchildren, Edward Barlow, Susan Brusp, Brian Poole, Robert Poole, Richard Poole and Valerie Bernabo Poole; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Armilde (Arro) Barlow, in 1999, brother Albert Barlow and sister Pear S. Booth.
Interment was in Freehold Cemetery.

LOUISE WRIGHT
Louise Moore Wright 91, of Medusa, died Monday, January 30 at the Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehab in Goshen.
She was born June 17, 1914 in Medusa, the daughter of the late G. Howard Moore and Maud A. Mackey.
Wright was a member of the United Church of Christ in Medusa, the Town of Rensselaerville Historical Society and the Women’s fellowship of the Hudson Mohawk Association.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed helping at community function and working on genealogy research for the historical society. For many years she volunteered, serving side by side with her husband at Camp Medusa, of which he was a founder.
Surviving are her daughter, Janet Stiles (Stuart) of Howells; her son, Allyn Wright (Alayne) of Medusa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Porter Wright, on January 25, 2005.
Mrs. Wright donated her remains to the Anatomical Gift Program of Albany Medical College.
A memorial service is planned in the spring at the convenience of the family.

ESTELLE AUGER
Estelle M. Auger, 64, of South Cairo, died January 26 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness.
She was born in Canada on May 9, 1941, the daughter of the late Theophili and Monique (Cote) Lussier.
Auger had been an area resident since 1981 and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, She was Bilingual and was very well known in the Greene County Tourism Department. She was a member of the Cairo Hose Company Auxiliary.
She loved taking care of her grandchildren and was an excellent cook. She also liked to go to the Mohican Sun Casino and knitting.
Surviving are a son, Allen Auger and wife Barbara of Cairo; vive daughters, Linda Blakslee and husband Brian of Concord, Vt, Carole Selner and husband Joe of Round Top, Doris Shastany of Acra, Diane Bartholomew and husband Steven of Freehold and Rachel Campbell and husband Gary of Round Top; a brother, Rene Lussier of Quebec, Canada; a sister, Angele Quimet of Barrie, VT; 11 grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a friend Paul of White of Catskill.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emile J. Auger, on August 4, 2007.
Private cremation took place at the Albany Rural Crematorium, Menands. Interment will be in the spring in the Round Top Cemetery.

ALICE FERRIOLO
Alice M. Ferriolo, 76, a resident of Greenville since 1958, died Saturday, January 28 surrounded by her family.
Born in the Bronx on November 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Cullen) Hopkins.
Ferriolo was an actuary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Manhattan and after moving to Greenville, was a secretary for the Greenville Central School District and later worked at Pine Lake Manor, also in Greenville.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Ferriolo; her children, Thomas Ferriolo of Dunedin, FL and Tracy and husband Bradley Boomhower of Greenville; and grandchildren, Bradley and Elizabeth Boomhower.
Her brother, Thomas Hopkins, and sister, Nora Hopkins, predeceased her.
Burial was in the Greenville Cemetery.

MARIE BRINK
Marie E. Brink, 77, of Windham, died at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Windham September 13, 1923, the daughter of the late David and Jennie (Rivenburg) Cleveland.
Brink was a homemaker and was always happy with children around her.
Surviving are three daughters, Maryann Brink of Windham, Linda Brink of Hudson and Diane Johnson of Catskill; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband of 51 years, George Brinks Jr., son Charles Brink, grandson Michael Brink, four sisters and four brothers predeceased her.
Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.
Arrangements were with Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

DARLEEN D. STICKEL
Darleen (Palmer) Stickel, 63, of Greenville, died at her home on Wednesday, February 1.
She was born in Catskill October 31, 1942, the daughter of the late Sheldon and Allie (Parks) Palmer.
She worked at the VA Medical Center in Albany, dedicating 35 years to counseling and supporting troubled veterans. Upon retirement she enjoyed speeding time with her grandchildren and dog. She loved helping others and making a difference in their lives.
Surviving are her children, Frank Zibura and wife Denise, Lisa Koehler and husband Todd and Bryan Zibura and wife Amy; brother Doug Palmer; grandchildren Lauren, Zachary and Cody Zibura and Erich and Katie Koehler; Uncle Walter and Aunt Margie Parks of Akron; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her son, Scott Zibura, and a brother, Dale Palmer, predeceased her.
A memorial service takes place Saturday, February 11 at noon from Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville, Calling precedes the service from 10 a.m. to noon.

JOSEPH FONZO
Joseph E. Fonzo, 39, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, died Tuesday, January 10 at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida.
He was born in Catskill and had been a resident of Palm Beach and Port St. Lucie for 12 years, going there from Saratoga Springs.
Fonzo had been a carpenter who did roofing, siding, screen porches and home repairs for 20 years in New York and Florida.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors, include his mother Mary Ann Vedder of Port St. Lucie; sister Kathleen Alves of Port St. Lucie and Danielle Ketzeback of Chicago; his partner of 10 years, Dawn DeMichele; grandmother Alberta Vedder of Greenville; and uncles Frank and Albert Vedder and John Fonzo of Greenville and Fred and Gerry Vedder of Florida.
He was predeceased by his father Eugene Victor Fonzo.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Lucie Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie, with the Rev. D. Brian Horgan, pastor, as the celebrant.

MARION BIEGEL
Marion Blanche Emma (Hoover) Biegel died Friday, February 3 following a long illness at the Pavilion in Catskill, where she had lived with her husband Richard Roth Biegel Sr.
She was born to James Marion Hoover and Minnie Eloise (Decker) Hoover in Milwaukee, WI, on June 2, 1918.
The couple had been residents of Ashland for almost 60 years. She was a wife, mother and homemaker for more than 60 years.
Surviving are her husband Richard; her children, Barbara and husband Gary Slutzky of Hunter, Roberta and husband Dennis Shea of Cambridge, MA, Marion and husband Frederick Quenzer of Red Hook, Richard Biegel Jr. and Jennifer and husband Robert Scaboo of Prescott Valley, AZ. Margaret and husband Mike Bush of Lexington, Kathryn Swann of Castleton and Elizabeth and husband Robert Chura of Windham; daughter in law Joyce Trudell of Greenville; sons-in-law Blaine Partridge of Ashland, Tom Hotaling of Casleton and Charles Montalbano of Prescott Valley, AZ; a brother Clarence Hoover of Granite Canyon, WY; sister Dorothy Nelson of Almond, WI, Diana Koklas of Greenfield, WI, Ruth Geboy of Winlake, WI, Kathryn Milbauer of Redgranite, WI, Ilene Crisp of Milwaukee, WI, and Delores Walls of Glendale, AZ; a sister-in-law, Mabel Robison of Olean; and a brother-in-law, Charles Biegel and wife Mabel of Olean.
Her children, Edward Trudell and Fern Partridge, sister Roberta Moran and brother James Hoover of Milwaukee, WI predeceased her.
Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland.

JONATHAN KUDLACK
Jonathan Kudlack, 39, of Selkirk, died Friday, January 27.
He was an industrious young man and spent many summers working on the Welden Farm in Little Falls.
Kudlack was a graduate of Greenville High School and Siena College, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He was director of marketing for Integra Service Group in Schenectady.
Survivors include his parents, James and Roberta Kudlack of Greenville; his wife, Kelli of Selkirk; four brothers, James, Joel and Earle Kudlack, all of Greenville, and Adam Kudlack of Kealakekua, HI; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial to celebrate Kudlack’s life is being planned and will be announced.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Jonathan Kudlack Memorial Fund at any Trustco Bank Branch.

CAROL ROBB
Carol Duncan Robb, 83, died Saturday, February 11 in Gainesville, Fl.
She was born December 24, 1922 in South Cairo to the late Clarence and Myrtle Duncan in the house she lived in until her marriage.
Robb attended the one-room schoolhouse in South Cairo until it closed and the students were transferred to Cairo Central School. She also attended the South Cairo Methodist Church School.
She worked at J.J. Newberry’s in Catskill until she married John Robb of Catskill.
She was a member of Catskill American Legion Unit 110 for 38 years.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Robb and Danilo Galindo; a sister, Louise Eastgate of Yucaipa, CA; two granddaughters, Jennifer Galindo King and Julie Galindo; two great-grandchildren; a cousin, Elizabeth Cooper of Athens; and a nephew.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today, February 16, from the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Julien officiating.
Burial follows in Forest Meadows East Cemetery, Gainesville.

BERNADETTE CARROLL
Bernadette Theresa Carroll, 95, died Sunday, February 12 at home after a year-long illness.
Born June 6, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Walther and Theresa McGuigan Walther.
A lifelong resident of Coxsackie, Carroll was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, a charter member of the Columiaettes, Coxsackie Council # 548, a member of St. Mary’s Altar Rosary Society and the Coxsackie Senior Citizens Club, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Coxsackie Yacht Club.
In earlier years she was employed by the original Curtis and Warren insurance agency as secretary/bookkeeper.
She married her childhood sweetheart of 14 years, Edward A. Carroll, on July 12, 1941.
She as a devoted stay-at-home mother and homemaker for 20 years and then returned to the workforce, serving as Coxsackie village clerk for more than 20 years. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her friends.
Surviving are her daughter and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Joseph A. Caputo of Earlton, Rosemary and Roland martin of West Coxsackie and Arlene and Michael Matthews of Coxsackie; a son and daughter –in-law, Thomas Sr. and Michelle Carroll of Athens; 11 grandchildren, Joseph E. Caputo and wife Mary Elizabeth, Ann Marie Schonning and fiancé Peter Baskiewicz, Michael Caputo and wife Patricia, David Caputo and wife Jennifer, John Caputo, Shawn Martin and wife Gina, Darrin Martin, Thomas Carroll Jr. and wife Toni, Mark Carroll and wife Cassie and Marie Carroll; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Marlene A. Carroll, Brother Francis and Henry Walther and sisters Mary Marra and Agnes Moore.
Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coxsackie.

B. G. DONALD V. HOLSCLAW, RET.
Brigadier General Donald V. Holsclaw, Ret., died Tuesday, February 7 at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, VA.
Born September 16, 1921 in Lovilia, IA, the son of the late Earl Vincent and Gertrude Holsclaw.
He was bestowed the rank of brigadier general upon his retirement following 38 years of meritorious military service to the United States, He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the Army Air Corps as a navigator with the 394th Bombardier Squadron. He post war service continued with the New York Army Reserve National Guard as USPFO.
Surviving are his children, Richard V. Holsclaw and wife Terry of Fort Pierce, FL, Janet L. Wardell and husband Arthur of Chesapeake, VA, Lynn M. Brockett and husband LaVergne of Coxsackie and Nancy I. McCoy and husband Alvin of Hannacroix; daughter-in-law Joanne Holsclaw of Huntington; 11 grandchildren, Danielle Borelli, Richard and Dean Holsclaw, Elizabeth Guzik, Kathryn Rowell, Margaret Diggs, Jeffrey and Alison Brockett, and Scott, Kristin and Kevin McCoy; and six grand-grandchildren Anthony Borelli, Austin Holsclaw, Marybeth, Grace and Mitch Rowell, and Ryan Guzik.
He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Mary Louse.
Holsclaw was passionate sailor, avid golfer and a friend and gentleman to all who knew him. He was resident of the area for more than 30 years. He derived much pleasure from his daily encounters with friends and his favorite haunts, and it is in this spirit that his family invites all to gather to honor his life at his beloved Quarry steak House on Route 26 Climax, on Sunday, February 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.

MARIA KOBERTZ
Maria Anna “Mitzi” Kobertz, 86, died at home in Jacksonville, FL, on Thursday, February 9 after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her side.
She was born October 18, 1919 in Pottendorf, Austria. She moved to New York from Germany with her family in 1951 and lived 34 years in the Greenville area until she moved to Jacksonville with her daughter three years ago.
A homemaker, Kobertz enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, dancing and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and loved following politics. She treasured her frequent visits to family and friends in Germany and Austria.
While living in Greenville, she was a member of the German Social club and prior to that the German Singing Group in New York City where she performed many concerts including a performance in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are her children Franz Josef Kobertz of Canal Winchester, OH, Annamaria O’Connell and husband Daniel of Brookville, Long Island, and Leona Catalano and husband David of Jacksonville; grandchildren William and Frank Kobertz, Daniel O’Connell and Alexandra Catalano; great-grand-children Dylan Kobertz and Qwynn Kobertz; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Her husband, Josef Franz Kobertz, died before her.
The family visitation to greet friends takes place Friday, February 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 18 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to church services at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville.
A Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Her interment follows the service with a processional to the Greenville Cemetery.

MAURICE KELLIHER
Maurice J. Kelliher, 74, of East Durham died Tuesday, February 7 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
Born in Ireland February 14, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Flarety) Kelliher.
Kelliher, who served in the Army during the mi- 1950’s, retired from the MABSTO of New York City, where he was a hydraulic mechanic.
He had been an area resident for 25 years and was a member of Our Lady of Knock Shrine Choir, T.W.U. and the Kerrymen’s Association. He also was an active member of Our Lady of Knock Council Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Mary. T. (Carrigan) Kelliher; a daughter, Mary Kelliher of Younkers; two brothers, Gerald Kelliher of New Jersey and John –Joe Kelliher of County Kerry, Ireland; a sister, Mary Ellen Farrel of Ireland and a grandson, Christopher, of Windham.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Queens.
Arrangements were with Richards Funeral Home, Cairo.

AGNES LAMPMAN
Agnes Emma Lampman, 86, a patient at Eden Park Health Care in Catskill, formerly of Coxsackie, died Wednesday, February 8 at Columbia memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was born in Climax July 22, 1919, the daughter of the late Manley and Clara (Tryon) Vandenburgh.
She was a living mother and Housewife.
Survivors include her children, Joan Walker and husband Robert of Lake Katrine, Jane Patterson and husband Thomas of Sour Cairo and Gerald Lampman of Coxsackie; a sister, Marie Trombley of West Palm Beach, FL; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her brothers, Edwin, Walter and John VanDenburgh, twin brother Robert Vandenburgh and husband Ralph C. Lampman, who died April 13, 1989, predeceased her.
Graveside services will be in the spring in the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery in New Baltimore.
Memorial contributions may be made to Coxsackie Rescue Squad.

CAMILLE GENTILE
Camille “Tom” Gentile, 81, of Catskill, died Tuesday, February 14 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.
He was born in Catskill December 11, 1924, the son of the late Camillo and Mariana (Deluca) Gentile.
Gentile served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was in the Coast Guard Band for three years.
He owned and operated Elite Cleaners on Main Street, Catskill, for 42 years. He later was an employee of Spector’s Men’s Apparel of Colonie prior to his disability.
Gentile was a big band jazz percussionist, performing as the Big Band Sounds of Tommy Gentile at numerous Greene County resorts during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
He was an avid flower gardener, landscaper and mode railroad enthusiast.
He was a pest member of the knights of Columbus and Catskill Elks Lodge # 1341.
Surviving are his wife of over 59 years, Rosemary “Dolly” (Mollo) Gentile; a daughter, Andréa Gentile of Catskill; and two nephews, Patrick Gentile of San Diego, Ca, and Stephen Gentile of Las Vegas, NV.
Two brothers, Patrick and Stephen Gentile, predeceased him.
Interment with full military honors took place in the veterans’ section of the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Frances Hresko, 94 of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, February 16 at eh Punta Gorda Elderly care center in Florida.
She was born in Poland January 12, 1912, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Naklicki.
Surviving are a daughter; Dorothy Prevete and husband Philip; a brother, John Naklicki; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Edward Hresko Sr., and a son, Edward Hresko Jr., predeceased her.
Calling hours are Saturday, February 25 from 11 a.m. to noon at Richards Funeral Home, Bross Street, Cairo. The Rev. Jeremiah Nunan, pastor of Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, leads a prayer service at noon at the funeral home.
Burial follows in the Round Top Cemetery.

PETER TUMMINELLO SR.
Peter J. Tumminello Sr., 85, of Westerlo, formerly of Rensselaerville, died Thursday, February 16 at Albany Medical Center.
He was born April 10, 1920 in Brooklyn, the son f the late Joseph and Maria (Ciaccone) Tumminello.
Tumminello served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds suffered at Anzio, Italy.
He was employed as a sanitation worker with the New York City Department of Sanitation for 25 years until his retirement. He also ran a flea market at the Fox Creek Antique and Auction Center for many years.
He was a member of the VFW on Long Island prior to moving up-state.
Surviving are his wife, Florence T. Tumminello; two daughters, Marianne and Tara Tumminello, both of Westerlo; two sons, Peter J. Tumminello Jr. of Rensselaerville, and Charles Tumminello and wife Joan of Delmar; two granddaughters, Noelle and Gina Tumminello, both of Delmar and a sister, Mary DaVanzo of Flushing.
Several sisters and brothers predeceased him.
Spring interment will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were with Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville.

RALPH RULAND
Ralph E. Ruland, 83, of West Coxsackie, died Saturday, February 18 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
He was born in Sunside on May 7 1922, the son of the late Ralph A. and Martha (Andrus) Ruland.
Ruland served his country during World War II in the U.S. coast Guard.
Before retiring, he had been and equipment operator for the Town of Durham, a Durham constable and artificial inseminator with the New York Artificial Breeders.
He was a member of the Durham Valley American Legion Post #1416, the East Durham Volunteer Fire Co. and Cascade Lodge in Oak Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude (Osborne) Ruland; a son, Ralph Ruland III and wife Candace of Greenville; a daughter, Lynn Tanner and husband Joseph of Hannacroix; three sisters, Marion Jamieson of Troy, Lura McCarthy of Albany, and Vivian Simpson of Sunside; four grandchildren, Travis Ruland and wife Jennifer, Heather Ruland, Jami Passaretti and her significant other George Babcock, and Cassi Passaretti and her Significant other Sam Stanley; great-grandson Dylan Babcock and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Stewart.
A memorial service takes place Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Greenville.
