ELIZABETH CROTTY

Elizabeth Crotty, 88, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Durham, New York, passed away on April 20, 2008.

She is survived by three children, Maureen Fox, Jo-Ann Crotty and Kevin T.Crotty (Loretta); also eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Crotty and a daughter, Kathleen Crotty.

She will be deeply missed by many.

A memorial Mass will be held for John and Elizabeth Crotty at a later date.

EMMA L. HUNT

Emma L. Peck Hunt, 90, of Selkirk passed away Monday, April 21, 2008.

Emma was a 1935 graduate of Ravena High School.

She was employed at Farm Family for many years and retired in 1982.

Emma was a member of the Coeymans Hollow Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Janet Chiorgno of Watervliet, Christine Hunt of Albany, and Les (Wendy) Hunt of Selkirk; sister Marjorie Carpenter of Greenville; grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Foster, Stephen Hunt, Krysta (Ben) Domery-Rogers, and Tiffany Hunt; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Raymond Hunt, son, Eugene Hunt, grandson, David Hunt, brothers, Lincoln, Donald and Robert Peck and sisters, Josephine Slingerland and Jeannette Cary.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 25 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.

Burial was in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

LEONORA MARCELLO

Leonora Marcello, 85, of Greenville, New York, formerly of Brooklyn and Oceanside, New York, passed away at the Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, New York on April 22, 2008.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 9, 1923, daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanina “Jenny” (Fenimore) Rizzo.

Leonora was a former member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. John the Baptist Church and several senior citizens clubs.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to all she met.

Surviving are five sons, Peter Marcello of Saugerties, New York, Robert Marcello (Dianne) of Feura Bush, New York, James Marcello (Eleanor) of Castleton, New York, Paul Marcello of Greenville, New York, Anthony Marcello (Michelle) of Freehold, New York; a daughter, Theresa Rebeor (Chris) of Fairfax, Vermont; also 26 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Loretta Lupo and Joan Donnelly, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter J. Marcello; a sister, Mary Cipolla and a brother, Stephen Rizzo.

Funeral service was Saturday, from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Greenville, New York.

Interment followed in the Greenville Cemetery.

ROBERT J. POWERS JR.

Director of Information Systems at C.M. Hospital

Coxsackie – Robert J. Powers Jr., 58, of Earlton died Friday, April 25, 2008, at his residence.

He was born December 19, 1949 in Albany.

He was the son of Alice R. (Turner) Powers of Selkirk and the late Robert J. Powers Sr.

Robert worked at Columbia Memorial Hospital as director of Information Systems since 1995.

He had been a Registered Nurse since 1983, a former member of The Teamsters Union, and he also served in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1977 as a Sp. 7 Medic and again from 1984 to 1987 as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps.

Robert was a very loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed hosting their elaborate family picnic at his family’s home each summer.

His intelligence and creativity were unrivaled.

Robert will be dearly missed not only by his family, but by his faithful dog Sable.

Other than his mother, Robert is survived by his loving wife of over 20 years Marrianne (Zabinski) Powers; four daughters and three sons-in-law Kimberly and Jeffrey Cox of Denver, Colo., Emily Powers and Scott Kline of Boston, Mass., Elizabeth and Steve Parker of Cleveland, Ohio and Alexandra Powers; three sisters, Alice Marie Korzatkowski of Selkirk, Kathleen Pelletier of Selkirk and Joan Smith of Boston; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Kathleen Zabinski-Kramer of Clifton Park and Janet Furbeck of Albany.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the W.C. Brad[y]’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St., Coxsackie.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 30 at the funeral home with military honors following.

In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up at Key Bank for their 10-year-old daughter, Alexandra Powers.

ROBERT A. HARRIS

Robert A. Harris, 54, of Ravena, entered eternal life on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Robert was born in Catskill and lived most of his life in Ravena.

Robert was a member and worked out of Local 190, Albany.

He was a member of the Ravena Fish & Game Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina Harris (Michael) Myhre of Freehold; brothers, Richard Harris of Ravena and Raymond Harris of East Greenbush; grandson, Eric Myhre of Freehold; and life partner, Deborah Danz of Ravena.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Gertrude Harris and daughter Jessica Harris.

Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday, May 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.

At 6 p.m. a funeral service will be held.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry or to the Ravena Rescue Squad.

JAMES J. MCMANUS

James J. McManus, 86 years, of Norton Hill, New York, passed away at his home on May 11, 2008.

He was born in Mullaghboy, County Leitrim, Ireland on February 12, 1922, son of the late Hugh and Susan (Gill) McManus.

John [sic] was a bus driver for the Queens Transport Company until his retirement.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, New York.

He was a member of Our Lady of Knock Council No. 6439 Knights of Columbus, the AOH, the Greenville Irish-American Club, the Michael J. Quill Cultural Sports Centre and the Leitrim Society.

Besides his parents, John [sic] was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Francis Quinn; and a sister, Margaret Mimna.

Surviving are his wife, Ann McManus of Norton Hill, New York; two daughters, Sr. Kathleen McManus, O.P. and Maureen Brosnan and her husband Kevin; and a son, John McManus and his wife Siobhan; five grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Lennon, Mary Tramonte; and two brothers, Eugene and Bill Quinn and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was Wednesday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, New York.

Friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

JAMES S. SLINGERLAND

James S. Slingerland, 74 years, of Westerlo, New York, passed away at his home on May 11, 2008.

He was born in Albany, New York on July 16, 1933, son of the late Arthur J. and Mabel C. (Stewart) Slingerland.

James was a mechanic for Albany Asphalt until his retirement.

He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 294 in Albany, New York.

He enjoyed rebuilding tractors and loved playing cards.

James also loved to stop for coffee in the local coffee shops.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Slingerland.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Tallman) Slingerland of Westerlo, New York; six sons, James M. Slingerland, William J. Slingerland, Kenneth Slingerland, Scott Slingerland, Ronald Slingerland, and Michael Slingerland; two daughters, Laura Casey and Tracey Lee, 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma D’Alfonsi and Joan McDermott; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Thursday, 8 p.m. at the South Westerlo C.C. Church.

Friends may call at the church prior to the service from 6 to 8 p.m.

CAMILLE F. DE GIOVINE

Camille F. De Giovine, 96 years, of Greenville, NY  passed away May 15, 2008 in St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.

She was born in New York City Oct. 14, 1911, daughter of the late John and Mildred (Ulip) Hoeflick.

She was raised in New York City, where as a young woman she worked as a statistical typist for a steel company, then as a homemaker raising a family.

After moving to Greenville, NY in 1948 she worked for Baumann’s Brookside Resort as a chambermaid, which she enjoyed very much.

She was also a Cub Scout leader in the community.

She was an excellent cook and baker; heaven is gaining an outstanding cook.

Camille was pre-deceased by her husband, Otello in 1984; a brother, Charles Hoeflick – KIA in Iraq in 2007; four sisters, Lillian (Dom) Torina, Mildred (Andy) Mako, Dorothy (Dick) Fieltz and Helen Tangren.

Surviving are her three sons, Donald(Marilyn) of Auburn, NY, Raymond of Essex Junction, VT and William of Greenville, NY; granddaughters, Barbara Fenton of Malta, NY and companion Greg Tuttle of Altamont, NY, Diane De Giovine (Fred Bush) of Altamont, NY; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Kyle Fenton and Chelsea and Alexander Bush and her favorite dog “Lucy”, also many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral service will be Monday, May 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Camille’s memory to the Town of Greenville Ambulance, [Greenville] NY 12193.

ARTHUR ENGEL, JR.

Arthur Engel, Jr. of Hannacroix, New York, passed away at Kaaterskill Care in Catskill, New York after a short illness.

He was born in New Jersey on August 28, 1938, son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Post) Engel, Sr.

Arthur had worked for Conrail.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the NRA.

Surviving are his friends and caregivers, Dana and William Garimone and Gary Moore.

Friends called at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville on Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

As to his request cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery.

BERNARD J. “BERNIE” KRUGER

Bernard J. “Bernie” Kruger, 88 years, of Greenville, New York, passed away on May 19, 2008 at The Pines at Catskill (formerly Eden Park) in Catskill, New York.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 25, 1919, son of the late Charles and Agnes (De
Witt) Kruger.

Bernie served his country during WWII in the US Army.

He retired from Conrail where he was a trainman for 38 years.

He was a former member of the Greenville American Legion Post No. 291 and enjoyed, when able, fishing and bowling

He also enjoyed the fellowship at the lunches served at the Hiawatha Grange.

Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his wife, Julia (Nagy) Kruger and two grandchildren, Joseph and Julie Rosado.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Libby; a grandson, John Mardorf; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Joseph Rosado; a brother, Charles Kruger; and four nephews, James, Harold, Dennis and Edward Kruger.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Catskill, New York.

John J. McManus, 86 years, of Norton Hill, New York, passed away at his home on May 11, 2008.

JAMES WILSON PARMITER

James Wilson Parmiter, 76 years, of Norton Hill, New York, passed away at his home on May 12, 2008.

He was born in Oceanside, New York, on May 10, 1932, son of the [late] Harold and Angeline (Johnson) Parmiter.

Jim married Janice Kay Neilson on July 5, 1958; together they raised a family of three.

They came to this area 39 years ago.

He was a carpenter, operating his own business, Jim Parmiter and Son, building contractors.

He was well-known for his building expertise and gardening.

Jim served as an elder in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenville, New York.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife Janice Kay Parmiter of Norton Hill, New York; his two sons, James Matthew Parmiter and his wife Patricia and Timothy Niles Parmiter and his wife Kathleen; a daughter, Janice Holly Brown and her husband Joshua; two grandchildren, Jacklynn and Michael Parmiter; three sisters, Ruth A. Parmiter, Florence Parmiter, and Jane Marriott and a brother, Harold A. Parmiter and his wife Ann.

Funeral service was Monday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Route 81, Norton Hill, New York.
