EVELYN C. GREER 

Evelyn C. Greer, 78 years, of Greenville, NY died suddenly, Thursday, June 25, 2009, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.  Evie was born May 3, 1931, in Mamaroneck, NY.  She was a trained accountant and a licensed real estate broker and proprietor of Greer’s Countryside Realty.  Evie was a member and past president of Clematis Garden Club, an active member of the Greenville Republican Club and a member of the City Harvest Family of Albany, NY.

Evie was predeceased by her husband George A. Greer and is survived by two children, Annmarie Davis (Donald) and Richard James Greer (Victorya), 11 grandchildren as well as many friends and church family.

Evelyn grew up in a Christian home and had an enriched life with her wonderful Christian husband George Greer. Evie was blessed with many friends and good neighbors.  In her own words, “I am a happy camper with Jesus, Who holds my hand and my future.”

Funeral services were held on Monday June 29, 2009 at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12803.  Interment was held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

WILLIAM K. ABRAMS

Ravena – William K. Abrams, 89, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009 in the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness.  Born on June 30, 1920 in New York City, he was son of the late Samuel and Ella Mary Burns Abrams, and stepson of the late Mary O’Neill Abrams.

Mr. Abrams was employed by the City of New York as a policeman for 21 years, retiring 30 years ago.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II.  He was a member of the NYCPBA and a life member of Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416.

He is survived by his daughter, Judith (Edward) Dall, and his grandson, Patrick Dall.

Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416 will conduct a service on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, followed by a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. led by Deacon Peter Sedlmeir.  Burial of his ashes will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 10 at Saratoga National Cemetery.

JEFFREY L. BROADHURST

Jeffrey L. Broadhurst, 45 of New Baltimore, passed away suddenly Friday, July 10, 2009 during his Friday evening golf league.  He was the son of the late Kenneth and Marie Broadhurst.

At the time of his death Jeff was project manager at O’Connell Electric and a member of IBEW Local 236.

Survivors include his siblings, Catherine Kelly of Texas, Arlene McKeon of New Baltimore, Valerie (Dennis) Vanderslice of South Carolina, and Kenneth (Peg) Broadhurst, Jr. of Rye, New York. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends to numerous to count.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15 at the New Baltimore Reformed Church under the direction of the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.  Burial was in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.  In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Jeff may be made to Orchard Creek Country Club, OCOC Duffers League, 6700 Dunnsville Road, Altamont, NY  12009 or Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of New York, LLC, PO Box 5782, Albany, NY 12205.

LEE R. PALMER

Lee Radford Palmer, 71 of New Baltimore, took the checkered flag and with his helmet in hand headed home on Monday, July 6, 2009.  Lee made his living with a steering wheel in his hand and was a retired Teamster.  Lee was a stock car driver and raced at many local tracks.  He was a member of several area Stock Car Hall of Fames.

Survivors include his children, Michael (Virginia) Palmer, Brian (Jennifer) Palmer and Susanne Welch; his brother Charles (Sharon) Palmer; and two grandchildren.  Lee was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marge Palmer, sons, Kevin and Steven Palmer and his former wife Maureen Patterson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 9, at the New Baltimore Reformed Church.  Burial followed in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.  Friends called at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Wednesday.  Contributions in memory of Lee may be made to Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY.

CHARLES Z. NELSON

Charles A. Nelson, 69 of Coxsackie, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 surrounded by family and friends.  Charles had worked many years for the railroad, retiring in 1991.

Survivors included his wife Susan; son Charles III; daughters, Amy McCandless, Charleen Pascariello, Christina Riordan and Colleen Wright; nine grandchildren; and a close family friend, Genie Duplessis.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 19, at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.  Contributions in memory of Charles may be made to the Coxsackie Rescue Squad.

JOHN C. “JACK’ BAILEY

John C. “Jack” Bailey, 85, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009.  Jack was born and lived all his life in the Ravena area.  He was a graduate of Ravena High School.

Jack was an Air Force veteran serving during WWII in the 8^th Air Force 487 Bomb Group, 837 Bomb Squad.  He retired after 32 years as an insurance agent with Nationwide and 25 years as a part time bus driver for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.

Jack was a member for over 60 years of the Ravena Hose Co., Chief for 10 years, and Deputy Chief for eight years.  He helped form and had been an active member for 20 years of the Ravena Rescue Squad, a member of the 5 Chiefs Assoc., and Albany County Volunteer Firemen’s Assoc. Jack was Past Deacon of the Congregational Christian Church, Past Master of the Ravena #850 Masons, 58 year member of the Ravena American Legion and Past Commander and presently treasurer.  Jack was an active member of the Town of Coeymans EMS Team and Civil Defense Director for the village of Ravena. He was a member of the Senior Golf League and on the Board of Directors of Senior Projects of Ravena.  Jack enjoyed hunting, camping and golf.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Esther Carr Bailey; children, Jacklyn (Joe) Spring, Paula (Jack) Purcell, William (Penny) Bailey, and Martin (Angel) Bailey; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Richard and Calvert Bailey.  Jack was predeceased by his parents, Irven and Bertha Bailey, sisters, Annetta Roosa and Leola Wilt, and brothers, Theodore, Harvey, Irenos, Raymond, and Douglas Bailey.
