HELEN M. FURMANEK
Helem M. Furmanek, 98 years, of West Coxsackie, New York (formerly of Surprise, New York) passed away on March 26, 2008 in the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York.
She was born in New York City on June 20, 1909, daughter of the late George and Elsa (Holster) Kaiser.
Helen was a lifelong homemaker.
She devoted her life to loving and caring for her family.
She loved to knit and crochet.
Helen was a lifetime member of the Maranatha Valley Chapter of the O.E.S.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H.Furmanek; a grandson, Charles G. Furmanek, Jr.; granddaughter, Rebecca Miner; her sister and brothers.
Surviving are her two sons, Randall Furmanek and his wife Arlene of Greenville, New York, and Charles G. Furmanek, Sr. and his wife Roseanne of Albany, New York; her daughter, Yvonne Miner of North Carolina; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
As to her wishes Helen was cremated at the Albany Rural Cemetery under the direction of the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York.

GRACE BLANCHE LAMPMAN SCHAFFNER
Grace Blanche Lampman Schaffner, 103, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008.
Grace was born to George and Anna Belle Lampman on October 28, 1904.
She married Frederick “Fred” Schaffner III on November 15, 1926 in Greenville, New York.
He preceded her in death on January 29, 1975.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Frank and Charles, and three sisters, Gertrude, Edna, and Alathea.
One sister survives her, Marilla “Millie” Klose of Long Island, New York.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Grace was a lifelong resident of Brooklyn and upstate New York, mostly Greenville, New York, until her move to Bartonville, Illinois in 1995 where she resided with her nephew Charles [(Jackie)] “Chuck” Lampman.
Grace returned to her home in Greenville for several weeks every year until she was unable to travel two years ago.
Grace worked at Pine Crest Farm/Resort for several years and then was a housewife.
Grace and her husband owned the Spruce Grove Farm in Greenville.
Their good friend, Phil Kohl, helped them manage the farm. He preceded her in death.
Funeral services are Friday, April 11, 10 a.m. at the W.C. Brady’s Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie with Pastor Jerry Bean and her nephew Rev. Ronald Klose officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Greenville Cemetery next to her late husband.
Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

DALE E. BATES
Dale E. Bates, 67, passed away on December 12, 2007 at his home in Climax, New York.
Funeral service will be Sunday, April 13, 3:30 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

HELEN E. CRONO
Helen E. Crono, 88 years, of Greenville, New York, (formerly of Staten Island, New York), passed away at the home of her daughter, on April 10, 2008.
She was born in Staten Island, New York on April 11, 1919, daughter of the late Felize and Angiolina (Celardo) Gabriele.
Helen was a lifelong homemaker, devoted to her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Crono, and nine of her brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her two daughters, Elizabeth Bivona and her husband Gary of Greenville, New York, and Nancy Mazza and her husband Anthony of California; three grandchildren, Nicholas Bivona, Anthony Mazza, Jr., and Olivia Mazza, a great-grandson, Nicholas Bivona; and a brother, Albert Gabriele.
Funeral services were Monday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Greenville, New York.
Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday.

RICHARD G. BLEEZARDE
Richard G. Bleezarde, 56, peacefully entered eternal life Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Hospice Inn in St. Peter’s Hospital.
Richard was raised in Ravena the son of the late George and Beatrice Bleezarde.
He was the Publisher/Owner of the Ravena News-Herald, Greenville Local, Coxsackie-Athens Courier and the Mid-Hudson Valley Health newspapers.
Dick was a member of the NY Press Association and currently served as a District Director for the Hudson Valley Region.
As a member of the Boy Scouts of America Dick attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
\He was a 1970 graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School and in 1974 graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Dick was a former member and past president of the Greater Ravena Lions Club.
He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and served on the Board of Deacons and Finance Committee and chaired various fundraisers.
Dick enjoyed bowling, golf, NY Yankees, NY Giants and coached his daughter’s basketball team.
He loved gardening and had a passion for photography, but most of all he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Debra A. Johns Bleezarde; daughter, Lauren E. Bleezarde, both of Glenmont; sisters, Joanne (Tom Buckner) Vilaghy of Philmont and Linda (Richard) Carpenter of New Jersey; mother-in-law, Fran Johns; sisters-in-law, Michele (Kevin) Grady and Donna Johns; and brother-in-law, Jim Johns.
Also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many friends.
Dick was predeceased by his father-in-law James Johns.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19 at the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.

MARGARET ESTHER HUNT
Margaret Esther (Dingman) Hunt, 84, entered eternal rest on April 15, 2008 at Eddy-Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes, New York
She was born in Oswego, New York on January 15, 1924, the only child of Robert and Mary (Mitchell) Dingman.
They moved to a farm just outside of Oak Hill, New York and later moved into the village of Oak Hill to the house where she lived most of her life.
Margaret graduated from Greenville Central School and continued her education at Oneonta State College for Teachers, achieving a Masters in Teaching.
She started teaching in Cairo Central School, later in Durham Elementary School where she finished up her career of 37 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a lifelong member of the Oak Hill-Durham Vo. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and served as secretary.
She was also a member of the Ladies Aid in the Oak-Hill Durham United Methodist Church.
She bowled in many leagues in Cairo, Ravena and Catskill.
She was a member of the Pleasant View Ladies Golf League as well.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers and as of late, dominos and watching the Yankees.
Her love for teaching first grade triumphed over all followed by her love for shopping on QVC.
She was predeceased by her husband Leland Hunt, whom she married on July 15, 1950.
Surviving are her children, Gregory Lee Hunt (Mary) of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Rhonda Jean Smith (Brian) of Latham, New York; her grandchildren include Ryan C., Kelly M., and Leah C. Hunt; her step-grandchildren, Marisa and Anthony Smith.
Funeral service will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, New York.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at the funeral home on Friday evening.
Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff of Eddy-Ford Nursing Home, especially Unit 2, and gratitude towards the Community Hospice of Albany County.

HELEN G. LAYMAN
Helen G. Layman, 85, beloved mother of Ken, Linda and Jim, passed away on April 17, 2008.
She was born on March 9, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York.
Helen was a resident of Oak Hill, New York for more than 60 years.
She will always be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving and witty woman with a loving heart.
Talented in cooking and baking, she shared her special recipes with son Jim and shared her favorite pastime with daughter Linda.
Her children – her proudest achievement – also share her love of animals, especially dogs.
Helen was well-known and respected as a longtime waitress at the Breezy Knoll Acres Resort in Greenville.
Her hard work ethic, softened with her caring spirit, was experienced and enjoyed by many who knew her and came to love being in her company.
She made us laugh.
Helen is survived by a son, James Layman of Oak Hill; a daughter Linda Javier (Mariano) of Los Angeles; granddaughter Christina Delizo of Sacramento; and great-grandchildren Christy and Marcus.
She was predeceased by her husband Lewis and son Ken.
She too is now at peace and home with the Lord.
Service will be Sunday, April 20, 5 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service.
The family gives heartfelt thanks to the Columbia-Greene Community Hospice for their loving help and care.

DORIS E. WINANS
Doris E. Winans, 85, of Cairo, New York, formerly of Potter Hollow, New York, passed away on April 14, 2008 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York.
She was born in New York City on June 7, 1922, daughter of the late George and Rose (Hartmann) Speckman.
She lived on the Winans farm with her husband Charles Winans at Potter Hollow Mountain for 33 years.
She moved to Cairo, New York in 1980 where she lived until she passed away.
Surviving is her son Jay C. Winans of Syracuse, New York; her grandchildren, Megan Walsh of Providence, Rhode Island, Jessica Jewitt of Syracuse, New York and Evan Wenzler of Fresno, California.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles; a son, Roy Winans; and a daughter, Rosemarie Wenzler.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo, New York.
Those who desire are requested to donate in her memory to the Columbia/Greene Community Hospice, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414.
