Julie C. Welch
Julia C. Welch, 98 years, of Smithtown, New York, formerly of Hannacroix, New York and St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on October 28, 2003 in St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital in Smithtown, New York.
Julia was born December 24, 1904 in New York City; daughter of the late John and Catherine (Collins) Mellett. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. A member of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, New York.
She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the Golden Years Club in Greenville and National AARP. Julia was predeceased by her husband Frederick Welch; three sisters, Mary Marshall, Catherine Elzin and Rita McMahon; four brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Francis and James Mellett.
Surviving are two brothers, John Mellett of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Edward Mellett of Blauvelt, New York; a niece, Maureen Moore of Smithtown, New York and nephews Richard Marshall of Oak Hill, New York, James Elzin of Las Vegas, Nevada, Terrance McMahon of Smithtown, New York, John McMahon of Largo Vista, Texas, and Dennis McMahon of Rego Park, New York; also several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Friday 8:30 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York with Mass of Christian Burial 9 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church. There were no calling hours. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

Janice D. McCarron
Janice D. McCarron, 58 years of Freehold, New York passed away at her home on November 4, 2003. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 11, 1945 daughter of the late Arthur and Florence (Hoffman) Fleschner.
Janice had been employed at Bryant’s and the Greenville Pharmacy and before she became ill she was the assistant manager of Rite Aid Pharmacy in Greenville, New York. She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, John McCarron; a daughter, Suzanne Nelson and her husband Richard of Delmar, New York; a son, Michael McCarron and his wife Sarah of Bangor, Maine; her grandson Jaden Nelson; a sister, Patricia Blake and her husband Lloyd of Bohemia, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 DR 81, Greenville, New York. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday 1 to 3 and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. Relative and friends may meet at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. for the procession to Albany Rural Cemetery for the cremation. Marie Kusterer Marquardt
Marie Kusterer Marquardt, 74, of Hyde Park went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2003 while at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on November 2, 1929 she was the only child of the late Engelbert and Anna (Link) Kusterer. She and her parents moved to South Westerlo, New York in 1941 where they operated a farm as well as Kusterer’s Meat Market for many years.
A graduate of Greenville Central School she went on to attend college at State University of NY at Brockport where she met her husband Gerald (Red) Marquardt. They both earned their degrees in Physical Education and were married on April 4, 1953. Together, they have resided in Hyde Park for 44 years.
Marie worked as a physical education teacher at Anderson School in Staatsburg for a number of yeas and was a substitute teacher for the Hyde Park Central School District. She was also the head of the Audiovisual Department at Roosevelt High School retiring with her husband in 1987. Most recently she helped establish Mar-Gas, a propane gas business, in South Westerlo, New York, which her son Dan currently owns and operates.
She will, however, be most remembered as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker as faith, family and home were her priorities in life. An active member at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, she served as an usher as well as co-chair of the Altar Guild. She was also involved in many committee projects, Bible study and enjoyed the fellowship of the golf ministry.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Conrad Marquardt of Red Hook, New York, his children, Kelly, Bryan and Mathew; her daughter Christine Fitchett and her husband Neil of Hoosick Falls, New York, their children Marla and Michael Cinilia, and Jeremy; her son Dan Marquardt and his wife Debbie of South Westerlo, New York and their children Sammy, Stephanie and Kara.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Wilbur Blvd. In Poughkeepsie with a luncheon reception to follow. A private burial will take place at Greenville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Kathleen “Kathy” Edwards
Kathleen Edwards, 55 years, of Greenville, New York, passed away at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York on November 9, 2003. She was born in the Bronx on August 27, 1948, daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (McCormack) Doorly.
She was a real property estate planner working for Tobin & Dempf in Albany, New York until her illness forced her to stop. She was truly an animal lover and would do anything she could for them. She would like her friends to remember her with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas Edwards of Richmondville, New York; a sister, Maureen Kelly and her husband Richard of New Windsor, New York; a nephew, Michael Kelly; and two nieces, Lisa Price and Theresa Kelly.
As to her wishes cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the animal shelter of their choice.

Thomas Oliver Reilly
Thomas Oliver Reilly, 67 years of East Durham, New York, passed away at his home with his loving family at his side on November 9, 2003. He was born in County Longford, Ireland on October 4, 1936, son of the later Philip and Catherine (Doyle) Reilly.
Thomas was a retired tailor, operating the Dublin Tailor in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. He retired in 1969 and went back to Ireland. He returned in 1986 to live in East Durham, New York. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine and a member of the local A. O. H. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are his wife Mary (O’Connor) Reilly; his children, Michael, Thomas, Bernard, Leo and Alice Reilly. Carmel Rustick, Olivia Rustick and her husband Stanley, Eamon Reilly and his wife Michelle, and seven grandchildren; also three brothers, John, Colm and Brian Reilly; a sister, Sheila Reilly (Sister Leo) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Eugene and Joseph Reilly.
Funeral service will be Thursday, 10:15 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 DR 81 Greenville, New York with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shire, East Durham. Friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Winston Cemetery, East Durham, New York.

James J. Monaghan
James J. Monaghan, 66 years, of Cornwallville, New York (formerly of New Fairfield, Connecticut) passed away suddenly on November 12, 2003 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York. He was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland on July 25, 1937, son of the late James and Ann (Gromley) Monaghan.
James worked until his retirement as a driver in Maintenance and as a mason for over 20 years for the MTA in New York City. He was a member of the A. O. H. and a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine.
Surviving are his sons, James and his wife Lisa of Ireland, Brian and his wife MariLou and Michael of New Fairfield, Connecticut, a daughter Deidre Fitzpatrick and her husband Peter of Sherman, Connecticut; a brother James Monaghan and sister Anna Meehan, both of Ireland. He is also survived by his longtime companion Delores Conway, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York at 7:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield, Connecticut at 10 a.m., Saturday. Friends called at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery in New Fairfield Cemetery in New Fairfield, Connecticut immediately following.

Mary M. Mullarkey
Mary M. Mullarkey, 88 years, of Preston Hollow, New York passed away at her home on November 13, 2003. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 6, 1915, daughter of the late Neil and Catherine (Molloy) McGroarty. A life long homemaker, loving mother, grandmother ad wife to the late husband James J. Mullarkey; she was an extraordinary minister at St. John the Baptist Church, a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a Charter Member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Our Lady of Knock Council #6439 Knights of Columbus in East Durham, New York.
Surviving are seven sons, James J., Neil, Thomas, Michael, Dennis and Gerard Mullarkey, Kevin Markey, two daughters, Beatrice Regan and Mary Lou Nichol, 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Winifred Kellegher and Beatrice McGroarty.
The funeral service was Monday, November 17, 2003, from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Edward L. Miller
Edward L. Miller, 61, of New Baltimore, died Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Albany Medical Center. Ed was born in Catskill and had lived in New Baltimore for 25 years. He was a member of the Army National Guard, serving during Vietnam. He was a former bus driver for Mt. View Bus Line, owned and operated Miller Vending and Ed & Harriet’s for 15 years. Ed was a member of the Catskill Elk’s, former 18-year member of the Catskill Fire Company, a member of the Cornell Hook & Ladder, and fire commissioner for 15 years.
He was the son of the late William and Elsie Miller. Survivors include his wife, Harriett Gill Miller of New Baltimore; children, Leland Miller and his wife Elizabeth, and Melissa Clark and her husband Craig, all of South Cairo, Brenda Barkman and her husband Michael of West Coxsackie; stepson, Kevin Gill of Florida; grandchildren, Christopher Miller, Corey and Jayne Clark, and Kayla Barkman; siblings William Miller and his wife Nancy of California, June Prince and husband Floyd, Sr. of Catskill, Grace Schnare and husband Eugene of Climax, Judi Seebode of Catskill and Charles Miller and wife Sheila of Athens. Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 26 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial was in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Contributions to Harriett Miller, P.O. Box 134, New Baltimore, New York 12124 would be appreciated.

Maria Rufa
Maria Rufa, 73 years, of Greenville, New York, passed away on November 20, 2003, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York. Maria was born in Italy on July 10, 1930, daughter of the late Vincent Rufa and Jessica (Perciballi) Rufa. Mrs. Rufa was a life long homemaker and a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a communicant at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, New York. She was predeceased by a son, Vincent Rufa, and a brother, Benny Rufa.
Surviving are her husband, Remo Rufa of Greenville, New York; her mother, Jessica Rufa of Westerlo, New York; three sons, Larry Rufa and his wife Debbie, Sandro Rufa and Joseph Rufa and his significant other, Charles Torres; and a daughter-in-law, Lynne Rufa; three grandchildren, Raymond, Grace and Samantha Rufa; two sisters, Ida Pironi and Josephine Cestra; and a brother, Peter Rufa.
The funeral service was held on Monday, November 24, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. Tallman
Elizabeth A. Tallman, 59 years of Westerlo, New York passed away at her home on November 21, 2003. She was born February 5, 1944 in Albany, New York, daughter of the late Huyler and Mary (Snyder) Tallman. She was a graduate of Greenville Central School. Beth worked for 37 years as a Central Supply Technician at Childs Hospital in Albany, New York. She was a member of the Dormansville United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Malcolm Tompkins, and a sister, Alice (Tallman) Oliver.
Surviving are three sisters, Margaret Tallman of Poestenkill, New York, Christina Tallman of Westerlo, New York, and Mary Lou Nutbrown and her husband William of Lenox, Massachusetts; a brother-in-law, Ray Oliver; three nephews, Wayne Oliver and his wife Lisa, Richard Oliver and his wife Tina, and Billy Nutbrown; and a great nephew, Patrick. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
The funeral service was held at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York on Monday, November 24, with Interment at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
Those who wish may contribute in Elizabeth’s memory to the Westerlo Rescue Squad or the Dormansville United Methodist Church.
