WALTER J. BOLAND
Walter J. Boland, 80 years, of Preston Hollow, New York,
formerly of Rockaway Beach, New York, died peacefully at home Friday, April
28, 2006. He was born on October 1, 1925, son of the late Patrick and Mary (McPolin)
Boland. Walter was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy.
He was a retired sergeant from the N.Y.P.D. after 30 years
of service. He was an avid hunter and a lover of nature and a communicant of
Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham, New York. He will be remembered as a
loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his
brothers, John and Vincent.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia; and six
children, Eileen (Donald) Waldman, Caryn (Charlie) Strining, Tina (Jeff)
Neilsen, Peter (Irene) Boland, Claire (David) Palmer, Terence (Dawn) Boland;
and 12 grandchildren, Andrew Boland Wennerstrom, Lisa and Eric Waldman,
Christin and Ryan Strining, Paige Boland and Andrew and Eric Kaufer, Kiara,
Patrick, and Sean Neilsen, and Gavin Boland.
Funeral service will be Thursday, 10:15 a.m. from the
Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of
Christian Burial 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Knock Shrine. Friends called at the
funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the
Potter Hollow Cemetery.

SUSAN SULLIVAN (ARMSTRONG)
COXSACKIE, NY---Susan Sullivan (Armstrong), 72, died May 3,
2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness.
Sue was born August 22, 1933 in Albany, the daughter of the
late Dorothy and James Armstrong.
She graduated from The Milne School in 1951.
Sue is predeceased by her son, John Scott, survived by her
daughter, Sharon (Joseph) Frisbee of Coxsackie; her sons Peter (Debbie) Scott
of North Huntington, PA, and Frederick (Ann) Hinrichsen of Coxsackie. Other
survivors include her sister, Marcia (Robert) Luther of Albany and her
recently discovered half-sister Dianne (Darryl) Waddell of Colonie;
grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel) DuBois, Bryan Frisbee, Katelyn Frisbee, Shannon
Scott, Nicole Scott, John Scott, Matthew Scott and Natalie Hinrichsen;
great–granddaughter, Charlotte DuBois and great-grandson, Connor Scott. She
is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and dear cousins.
Sue was an outstanding cook and few things gave her greater
pleasure than taking charge of family meals. She also delighted in her regular
reunion meetings with her Milne classmates and her annual summer trip to Maine
with the girls: Marcia, Mar, Betty and Jane…
Calling hours were Friday, May 5, from 5-8 p.m. at Brady’s
Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St. in Coxsackie. A service was held May 5, 2006 at
7:30 p.m. with Pastor William Clark, Pastor of Christ Episcopal Church of
Greenville, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joann Frisbee
Memorial Scholarship Fund, or the Howard Solvin Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o
Sharon J. Frisbee, 9 Washington Ave., Coxsackie, NY.
Envelopes can be obtained at the Funeral Home.
A private cremation will take place at the Albany Rural
Crematory, Menands, NY.
There will be a private burial of her remains in the family
plot at the Riverside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

ARLENE JUDITH HUNTER
Arlene Judith Hunter, 89, of Seattle, Washington, passed
away on May 2, 2006. Mrs. Hunter was born on September 10, 1916 in Medusa, New
York. Her family called her Peggy Van Auken. She was predeceased by her
parents, Niles and Agnes Van Auken of Medusa, New York; two brothers, Edward
Van Auken of Greenville, New York, Donald Van Auken of Portland, Oregon and on
April 8, 2006, her sister, Muriel Pete Caswell of Ravena, New York.
Mrs. Hunter graduated from Greenville Central School in 1934
and from Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. She was one of the first
stewardesses for American Airlines in the early 1940’s. She met her husband,
Robert Hunter, on an American Airlines flight. They were married in 1942. Mr.
Hunter passed away in April of 1987. They moved to San Francisco in 1950 and
together operated a successful sales business in California, Portland, Oregon
and from 1960 until retirement in Seattle, Washington. They enjoyed many
friends, golf and traveling.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by eight nieces and nephews; Suzanne
Van Auken Bird of Truckee, California, John and James Van Auken of Greenville,
New York, William, Paul and Gregory Caswell of Ravena, New York, Donald Van
Auken of Portland, Oregon and Charlene Van Auken Moore of Portland, Oregon.
She is also survived by two stepsons, Greg and Teda Voss of Seattle,
Washington and their children, September and Greg, and Rod and Sammie Voss of
Florida and their daughter. Greg and Teda were very close to Judy, as she was
known in Seattle. They were very caring and were with her when she passed
away.
Mrs. Hunter was a kind, beautiful, gracious woman, a
championship golfer and a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners.

ARLENE “JUDY” HUNTER
Arlene “Judy” Hunter, 89, of Seattle, Washington, passed
away on May 2, 2006. Mrs. Hunter was born on September 10, 1916 in Medusa, New
York. She was predeceased by her parents, Niles and Agnes Van Auken of Medusa,
New York; 2 brothers, Edward Van Auken of Greenville, NY and Donald Van Auken
of Portland, OR; and on April 8, 2006, her sister, Muriel Caswell of Ravena,
NY. Mrs. Hunter graduated from Greenville Central School in 1934 and from

Airlines first stewardesses and met her husband, Robert Hunter, on one of her
flights. They were married in 1942 and moved to San Francisco in 1950.
She assisted her husband in their successful sales business in
California, then Portland, Oregon and, in 1960 until their retirement in
Seattle, WA.
They enjoyed many friends, traveling and golf and were
members of Broadmoor Golf Club. Judy was especially proud that she was
selected as Captain of Broadmoor’s Woman’s Golf in 1983. Mr. Hunter passed
away in April of 1987. Mrs. Hunter is survived by 2 stepsons, Gregory Voss and
wife, Teda, of Kent, WA, their children, Greg Voss, Jr., of Seattle and
September Vaundrey of West Dundee, IL and 5 great-grandchildren; and Rodney
Voss and wife, Sammie and their daughters, Chelsea and Danielle, all of
Pensacola, FL. Greg and Teda were very close to Judy, as she was known in
Seattle. They were very caring and were at her bedside when she passed away.
She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews; Suzanne Van Auken Bird of
Truckee, CA, John and James Van Auken of Greenville, NY, William, Paul and
Gregory Caswell of Ravena, NY and Don Van Auken and Charlene Van Auken Moore
of Portland, OR. Mrs. Hunter was a kind, beautiful, gracious lady an avid
golfer and a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners. She will be greatly missed.
A private family service is planned.

EVELYN A. LINDSKOOG BURIAL, MAY 20
Burial has been set for Evelyn A. Lindskoog. A graveside
service will be conducted this Saturday, May 20, at 11:30 a.m. on the family
plot in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Steven W. Peiffer, Pastor of
Dormansville United Methodist Church will officiate. All are invited to
attend.
Mrs. Lindskoog, formerly of Coeymans Hollow, died on
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Teresian House in Albany. She was 93 years
old.

FRANZ (FRANK) JUNG
Maintenance Man
CAIRO---Franz (Frank) Jung, 84, of 25 Valley Rd., Catskill,
died May 16, 2006, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, after a long
illness.
He was born in Yugoslavia, Oct. 18, 1921, and was the son of
the late Josef and Mariannia (Lux) Jung.
Private cremation services took place Thursday, at the
Albany Rural Crematorium, in Menands.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Richards
Funeral Home, 29 Bross St., Cairo.
Frank has been an area resident since 1957, he adored cats,
loved to watch football and car racing, he was a maintenance man and loved to
work at the Green Lake Homestead in Catskill.
Survivors include four sons, Frank Jung of Catskill, Volker
Jung of Albany, Alex Jung of North Carolina and Hans Ronzka of Long Island.
Also survived by his daughter, Sigrid Dunn of Florida, two brothers, Jakob
Jung of Coxsackie, Josef Jung of Michigan, a sister, Katherine Krauss of New
Hampshire, also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

HOWARD “JERRY” ANGLE
Howard “Jerry” Angle, 82, formerly of Newton, New
Jersey, passed away at his home in Greenville, New York on May 12, 2006.
He was the husband of Wilma (Stevens) Angle; father of Linda
Annucci (Anthony) and Barbara Yeck (Ronald); grandfather of Lisa Fensko,
Deanne Marone, Michelle Ford; and great-grandfather of Nicholas G. Fensko.
Funeral service was at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR
81, Greenville, New York. Those who desire may contribute in his memory to

RUSSELL KARKHECK
Russell Karkheck, 84 years, of East Durham, New York, passed
away suddenly at his home on May 16, 2006. He was born in Rockaway Beach, New
York of June 21, 1921, son of the late Henry and Laura (Walsh) Karkheck.
Russell served his country during WWII in the US Army, 193rd Tank
Battalion.
He was the owner of Russell’s Garage until his retirement
in 1990. He was a member of the Durham Valley American Legion Post No. 1416,
the Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co., life member of the East Durham Vol. Fire
Co., the Greene Co. Vol. Fireman’s Association, a former member of the
Greenville Rotary Club and was the voting machine custodian for the Town of
Durham. Russell was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Cully) Karkheck in 1992.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Beverley Jennings and
East Durham, New York; his three sons, Dr. Russell Karkheck (Peri) of Nanuet,
New York, John Karkheck (Dorothy) of Jackson, Michigan, and James Karkheck
(Wendy) of East Durham, New York; his daughter, Marla Bednar (Thomas) of East
Durham, New York; and his six grandchildren, Katie, Jesse, John and Ian
Karkheck and Jordan and Justin Bednar.
Funeral service was Sunday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at the
Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York. Services were
conducted by the Legion and both Fire Companies. Interment with military
honors was in the Greenville Cemetery.
Those who wish may contribute in Russell’s memory to the
Town of Durham Ambulance.

LEROY DUANE CLEVELAND
Leroy Duane Cleveland, 62, departed this life on May 21,
2006, at his home in Oak Hill with his family at his bedside. He was born May
19, 1944 in his grandmother’s home in Conesville, New York, the son of the
late Grace (Crumb) Cleveland and Leonard Cleveland. Leroy worked with his
father and brothers in the Cleveland Plumbing and Electrical Co. He served his
country as a construction engineer in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 in the 83rd
Engineers Battalion in Germany.
It was love at first sight when he met his wife, Gail, and
then moved to New York City where he worked as superintendant of Buildlings
and Grounds at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx from 1973 to 1979. He then
returned to Greene County to design and build his own passive solar house in
Oak Hill.
He worked as maintenance supervisor for the Greenville
School from 1981 until early retirement due to illness in 2004. He was the
type of supervisor that could perform about any task himself and this enabled
him to properly guide and instruct those who reported to him. Leroy could
always be counted on to visit family and friends with a toolbox in the truck
to tackle even the hardest of jobs.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors,
gardening and all sports. He enjoyed traveling, loved to ski and took his golf
game seriously.
Those who knew him remember the pride and pleasure he took
accompanying his son, Brook, to free style ski competitions. He was fortunate
to have the company of many good friends throughout his life and he will be
missed.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gail (McGiure)
Cleveland; and his son, Brook Owen Cleveland; five siblings, Evalena Michaels
of Castleton, New York and Vero Beach, Florida, Leonard Cleveland of Santaquin,
Utah, Eugene Cleveland of Oak Hill, New York, Richard Cleveland of Sun City,
California, and Dennis Cleveland of Preston Hollow, New York; their families
and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his sister-in-law
and brother-in-law, Kelly and Brian McKeon and their children, Matthew,
Caroline and Brian of Massapequa, New York, his mother-in-law, Margaret Nelson
of Boqucron, Puerto Rico; and sisters-in-law, Maureen and Tara McGuire of
South Amboy, New Jersey.
It was Leroy’s wish to be cremated with no calling hours.
Instead, a celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at the
Greenville American Legion Post No. 291 on Maple Avenue, Greenville, New York.
There will be a memorial service with Chaplain Rev. Alan Babcock and the
Legion Color Guard. Prayers will be led by Rev. Thomas Carney of the
Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church. Following the service,
refreshments will be served; friends and family are invited to stay.
